Atlanta Hawks: Childress sign-and-trade in works (UPDATE: Hawks, Suns agree to trade)

The Hawks have agreed to a sign-and-trade that would send forward Josh Childress to Phoenix for a second-round pick and a trade exception, people with knowledge of the situation confirmed.

Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic reported Sunday night that the deal was “on the verge” of completion. Childress would sign with Phoenix for six years and at least $30 million, according to the report.

If Childress signs a deal for those terms, Atlanta’s trade exception would be worth half the amount of his first-year salary since he would become a base-year compensation player. The exception works as a sort of credit that would allow the Hawks to make a trade while over the salary cap without meeting the usual salary-matching requirement.

Atlanta drafted Childress with the No. 6 overall pick of the 2004 draft. He played four seasons with the Hawks before opting to sign a free-agent contract with Greek team Olympiakos in 2008. He has until Thursday to opt out of the final season of that three-year, $20 million deal.

True. Gladyr needs some time in the weight room, and maybe we can give him some of Jason Collin’s cheeseburgers and fries.

Teague is nice in the open court. I’d like to see him be a little more assertive in the half court though, especially in summer league. That last possession that ended on a 24-second violation was characterized by Teague deferring too much.

You know Teague wanted to dunk that. Too much company coming up from behind, though.

Truth Serum,

No, he’s a legit 6′11″, though. Dwight is actually just a hair under 6′11″, but you can’t tell with his massive shoulders, incredible wingspan, and crazy hops.

Exactly, you’d like to see him a bit more decisive. But, hopefully that’ll come with more time.

One thing I always noticed about Teague in college was that he didn’t shy away from taking center-stage in his time at WF. However, last season and even a bit here tonight, he doesn’t play with the swagger and confidence he played with at WF. He had a real pep to his step in college.

I predict Jordan Crawford to be the exact opposite. Jeff Teague’s a bit gun-shy, but I expect Crawford to be trigger-happy. The guys gonna chuck it every chance he gets, and I think people will be surprised at how well he does early in his career.

Wow, another great pass by Crawford, and he spent some time setting it up too. Funny thing is, Teague is supposed to be the point guard and Crawford the scorer, but Crawford has done a better job setting up people and Teague has done a better job getting to the rim. Both of them are really impressive.

Not too bad.

Jordan Crawford is a grown man playing with kids right now. He’s an “instant impact” waiting to happen.

Jeff Teague’s performance won’t turn all of Hawks Nation into believers, but his skill set adds another element to our offense. Is he a starter? That’s to be determined, but he’s definitely good for a change of pace.

Bad timing on the turnover by Teague. On the other hand, he handled himself pretty well most of the game. Lots of missed assists because guys couldn’t finish.

I liked Aminu and Hendrix, though Augustine showed a lot of grit. Unfortunately, he’s kinda wild out there. Aminu is a tad too skinny, but he can gain some weight. He played under control. I’d take any of those guys over RandMo. Get him OUTTA here.

Luke Jackson….not on MY roster…
