Atlanta Hawks: Childress sign-and-trade in works (UPDATE: Hawks, Suns agree to trade)

The Hawks have agreed to a sign-and-trade that would send forward Josh Childress to Phoenix for a second-round pick and a trade exception, people with knowledge of the situation confirmed.

Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic reported Sunday night that the deal was “on the verge” of completion. Childress would sign with Phoenix for six years and at least $30 million, according to the report.

If Childress signs a deal for those terms, Atlanta’s trade exception would be worth half the amount of his first-year salary since he would become a base-year compensation player. The exception works as a sort of credit that would allow the Hawks to make a trade while over the salary cap without meeting the usual salary-matching requirement.

Atlanta drafted Childress with the No. 6 overall pick of the 2004 draft. He played four seasons with the Hawks before opting to sign a free-agent contract with Greek team Olympiakos in 2008. He has until Thursday to opt out of the final season of that three-year, $20 million deal.

Aminu is looking nice. Our fwds are looking terrible. I would like Teague to get more aggressive. He is setting guys up fine but the shots are not falling.

Aminu looking good. Crawford looks unorthodox for a guard. Maybe it’s that #55.

Teague is by far the fastest player on the floor – no wonder Steve Lavin of ESPN said he would be better than Tyreke Evans or Ricky Rubio in 5 years – hope he is right!

TRENT-where does it say a team can’t improve if it returns the same basic players? Even though Bibby and Marvin regressed badly last yr, Smoove, Horford and JaCrawford had excellent seasons. Making Teague a starter, and eliminating that switching nightmare we played the last 2yrs, will automatically improve our DEF.

Having an actual structured OFF system that involves everyone will definitely help the OFF. After all, this same returning 9 players managed to average 101.7PPG with a very limited ISO, jump shooting dependent OFF.

1-running more, which is our strength,
2-playing solid man DEF, instead of switching everything,
3-replacing Bibby as the starting PG with Teague,
4-consistently utilizing our bench depth, including rookies,
5-making adjustments, changes and using strategy, especially during gms,
6-holding all players accountable,
7-having all players start the season having no grips with the HC,
8-having a HC that’s not too stubborn to hire a DEF specialist, or take advice from his assistants,
9-having the HC dictate the OFF, as well as what and how it will be run, instead of certain disgruntled players taking over at will, and
10-taking advantage of each players strengths and getting positive production out of all players,

are all elements that will contribute to the improvement of our team, even with the same core players returning.

NORTHCYDE-I don’t have a personal problem with you or anyone else on these blogs, because I don’t know anyone personally. But I do have a problem with the extremely negative attitudes some bring to the forum. Former GM BKnight did a good job of putting together a very talented team, and current GM RSund has done a very good job of keeping it together, while supplementing it with even more talent.

I JUST DON’T SEE THE WISDOM OF BEING CRITICAL AND COMPLAINING ABOUT US BRINGING BACK THE SAME 9 PLAYERS THAT WON 53GMS FOR US LAST YR, AND MADE IT TO THE 2ND RD OF THE PLAYOFFS, AGAIN. With LDrew as our HC, we’re only a decent backup center and PG from being a top tier NBA team.

Samuel,

My father and mother educated me quite well in black history, as any responsible black parents would do for their black son, thank you very much, so I need no lecture from you. There is plenty to owe to Frederick Douglass, Rosa Parks, Mary McCloud Bethune, George Washington Carver, Martin Luther King, among many others.

Jesse doesn’t make that list. Sorry. And that’s it on the subject. Go find some young idiot who doesn’t know how to make something of himself and can’t keep a job. Give HIM that speech. I had responsible black parents.

And now, I’ll quit cluttering up this blog with this nonsense…

big ray, leave jessee jackson alone.thats his opinion.what about the hawks problems and needs?we need to find a way to light a fire under rick sund.coaching was not the problem.it was sund’s failure to add the pieces to the team that was needed this past.ifwe were sobad, why did we win 53 games?we suppose to had less talent.no other coach would have gotten past cleveland, orlando or boston in the playoffs this past season. if rick sund keeps sitting on his butt, we are going to see how far the team go this season. we’re going to see how brilliant sund is.ha, ha, ha,thats a big joke

I’d take Aminu or even James Augustine over RandMo right now. Shelden Williams looked three times as good in the summer league years ago. That’s just plain shameful.

Hard to judge Teague when he’s playing with this group. His jumpshot still bugs me, but the guy has a handle, and he gets some good passes off. He’s on the floor with some serious scrubs who have trouble getting to the right spots, much less finishing properly. I think he’s still trying to play pg too much. Needs to attack.

Jordan Crawford is all scorer.

Ray.. wanted more mins for him.. but Woodson preached Def. and rebs. especially from his bigs. it is evident why he was in suits. he is just too lazy for my taste.

i would love to see Jermareo make a statement but it appears that he is still hunted by a lack of weight.. he is really the only long shot im pulling for on our roster. he is very active and high energy just has to show that he can get down there and board..

JT wasn’t the problem. It was the 2nd untit. Glady go absolutely NO touches and Pape Sy is messing everything up. I don’t think he’s a natural PG. Play him at the SF spot. The kid is 6′7. Where is Luke Jackson?

James Augustine looked good. Real Beefy/good footwork. Is he from illinois?

What game are you watching TS. Teague is getting guys the ball, is he supposed to make their shots too? Dude do you know anything at all about basketball or do you just like to see yourself type nonsense all day.

Exactly Big Ray. Teague, Crawford and Aminu are the only guys who look like they belong on the court for the Hawks. Its looking like last season, Teague makes a nice pass and guys just straight out missing shots.

Teague had some good passes at the beginning that turned into blown layups. Can’t blame him. And Crawford’s first shot exemplifies his game; was barely set and hoisted a contested three, yet it went in.

cdog ,

If we were so good and won 53 games, then why did we stumble so bad in the playoffs? You blame Sund for everything, but didn’t Sund put several pieces on the team that won 53 regular season games? Can’t have it both ways, bruh.

But yeah, I’m about tired of selling off picks and former picks (Childress) for money that we aren’t using. Having said that, the summer isn’t over yet by a long shot. But I will be right next to you screaming at Sund if we end up with scrubs for backup big men like RandMo and Collins again this year.

I’m hoping for Shaq….

Observations:
(1) The movement on offense is something to look forward to,
with our top guys running the motion. [Looks alot like Princeton off]
(2) Teaguer just needs someone to make a basket. he should have
10 or 12 assts. If anybody could knock down a shot.
(3) I want to see Gladyr on the floor with Teague,
let Jeff set him up for some outside shots.
(4) Nobody on this roster [besides Teague] will help this yr.*(summer/roster)
Sy – I don’t know, Gladyr didn’t play much, Crawford = long way to go.

Teague’s gonna add another element to the Hawks offense. You don’t have to score 25 a night to have a meaningful impact on the game. Teague’s ability to blow by his defender just puts other guys out of place. Penetration creates space. Teague will do plenty of that next season.

Just started watching this summer league game…

Teague is getting in the lane just fine, but I’d like to see him finish with more consistency.

Aminu looks pretty athletic, although he’s a little skinny… built in the mode of Solo.

I agree with y’all on RandMo. I just saw him give up an and-1 to Hasheem Thabeet. That’s pretty bad.

Samuel,

I think Jesse is just tired of the game of politics. And honestly, I was mostly unhappy about some of his comments about our first black president. I don’t hate the guy, and I know he’s been places I haven’t. Can’t argue that.

But I can hate on YOU. I haven’t caught a bass that size in I don’t know how long. Ha, just playin’, congrats on staying a master of the freshwater past time. My pops taught me how to do that too. I’m eternally grateful. Now if I can just quit messing with sports cars and go ahead and buy a boat. So I can take him out on the water the way he used to do for me.
