UPDATE: The Hawks selected Texas forward Damion James with the No. 24 pick and traded him to the Nets for the second of their first-round picks (No. 27 overall) and their second-round pick (No. 31). The Nets selected Jordan Crawford for the Hawks at No. 31.
More updates later. . . .
I scoured the Interwebs to find some mock drafts for your consumption. This is also the place for my blog people to talk amongst yourselves as the night unfolds. I’ll be holed up at Centennial Tower waiting for the Hawks’ decision-makers to pick their guys before emerging to explain themselves, but I will checking in on your comments.
So think positive thoughts and hope your Hawks buck recent trends and find a gem late in the first round. . . .

“… you call him a risk/reward player, but in the second round, he’s all reward.”
–Jay Bilas, on Hassan Whiteside.
Get that, DASG and Rick Sund? Second round picks have NO RISK TIED TO THEM.

I’m disgusted. This reeks of ASG, and I won’t believe otherwise unless we pick up an american player WITH SIZE at #53.
Instead, we’ll probably draft some guy whose name we can’t pronounce, won’t even have Youtube footage, and will never be seen on the North American continent.

Dont tell me Jordan Crawford is supposed to be JJ’s immediate replacement, as we know JJ is going on to greener pastures with a contending team as a 2nd or 3rd option like he should be in the first place.

I normally don’t get too bent out of shape about second-round picks, but when you have the first pick in the second round, that’s basically a free late first-rounder. Like I said, there’s no risk tied to that pick. It’s not like you are stuck paying him for several years if he turns out to be a dud. Maybe none of these big men pan out, but what do you lose by drafting someone and giving him a shot?
Tibor Pleiss wouldn’t have been higher than my 5th or 6th choice, definitely not over Whiteside or Pittman, but sh-t, at least bring him into training camp and give him a shot. Trading him for cash pretty much confirms all the accusations of cheapness that the fan base throws at the ownership.

Great trade by Sund. Why get a project big? Do u people really want another Solo?
Resign Joe Smith, RandMo, and J. Collins. They are all seasoned (2 of them are) and they cost NOTHING. Resign our VETS for NOTHING and let Drew implement Collins as appropriate. He obviously can be utilized better than our previous coach…Whatever his name was…..

Najeh,
Co-sign. And I won’t believe otherwise unless we pick up a guy at #53. And I mean an american, not some “stash and forget” guy from another country. We never get any use out of that. The most we got so far was cash for David Andersen, and we didn’t even use it.

This team needs a real owner that doesn’t put the bottom line over talent. If this worthless ownership group wasn’t so cheap, we could have at least drafted a Euro player to stash away for a few years. What a complete joke.

I’ll take back any “cheap” comments if the Hawks make a solid move on a big man (a successful one, that is) in free agency. Until then, the “cheap” sticker remains. Sorry…
Jerome Jordan, Jarvis Varnado, Solomon Alabi (I don’t like it, but what the hell) still on the board…but still nearly twenty picks before we do…

“Can be used” and “will be used” are two different things. How much cash do you really think they got for that pick? Pleiss will make around $550,000 if he makes the OKC roster this year.

Several Eastern Conf. teams that were worse than the Hawks last year will be better this year because of the “class of 2010″ …The Hawks Ownership knows this and is planning for a season where they are more comfortable, battling it out for a 7th-8th seed and a first round exit.

Hawks picked Texas F Damion James with their original #24 pick. They moved it to the Nets for the #27 (first round) and the #31 (second round). They picked Jordan Crawford with the #27 and Tibor Pleiss with the #31. They sold Pleiss’ rights to the Thunder for cash.
