Atlanta Hawks: Draft mockery (UPDATE: Hawks trade with Nets, get Crawford)

UPDATE: The Hawks selected Texas forward Damion James with the No. 24 pick and traded him to the Nets for the second of their first-round picks (No. 27 overall) and their second-round pick (No. 31). The Nets selected Jordan Crawford for the Hawks at No. 31.

More updates later. . . .

I scoured the Interwebs to find some mock drafts for your consumption. This is also the place for my blog people to talk amongst yourselves as the night unfolds. I’ll be holed up at Centennial Tower waiting for the Hawks’ decision-makers to pick their guys before emerging to explain themselves, but I will checking in on your comments.

So think positive thoughts and hope your Hawks buck recent trends and find a gem late in the first round. . . .

But there’s a possibility we go retarded and grab Lawal. He can contribute immediately (maybe) as a rebounder, but he can’t grow 5-7 inches or guard centers any better than Al or Zaza.

The Hawks couldn’t have picked a better time to make a move…with all the reaches in the first round…We should be able to get talent at 31 and 53.

I think tonights Hawk maneuvering were straight money moves … the ESPN guys alluded to that fact (in general) when that GM guy was on: 1st rounders count against the cap hold, 2nd round guys don’t count vs. salary cap until they sign. So by trading Damion James to NJN for the No. 27 and 31st picks, the Hawks get a cheaper 1st round player (by slotting of salaries) and and a 2nd round guy who doesn’t count until he signs. ….then on top of that, by signing a Euro who will need a couple of years to develop, now he doesn’t count until he signs in a couple of years from now (at best)

Hey STEEL I maybe dumb but the HAWKS made you look like a dumbass. SO much for that great big man. Rick SUND just made you look like a fool. Crawford is a good trade, but # 31 pick was made by the BAD NEWS BEARS owners because they are broke. Should have kept JAMES and traded MARVIN.

Great trade by Sund to move down, but…

f-cking ATROCIOUS pick. I have it on mute and I went off to eat so I don’t know whether the rumor is true that the Hawks are moving that pick to OKC, but if so, that’s even dumber. Dexter Pittman went one pick later. Solomon Alabi and Hassan Whiteside are still available. SECOND ROUND PICKS DO NOT REQUIRE GUARANTEED CONTRACTS. YOU DON’T LOSE ANY MONEY BY PICKING SOMEONE IN THE SECOND ROUND. You gotta be kidding me.

Jordan Crawford seems like a nice player. He ain’t going to make a huge difference one way or another though.

Sund better have some plans for a DEFENSIVE Center in Free Agency. Otherwise, good luck convincing me that out of all of the shot blockers available that could help us down the road against Howard embarassing us, we decide to draft a Euro dude and sell him? Crazy…… 2nd rounders wouldn’t even be counting towards the cap until after free agency. Unbelievable!!!!!!!
