UPDATE: The Hawks selected Texas forward Damion James with the No. 24 pick and traded him to the Nets for the second of their first-round picks (No. 27 overall) and their second-round pick (No. 31). The Nets selected Jordan Crawford for the Hawks at No. 31.
More updates later. . . .
I scoured the Interwebs to find some mock drafts for your consumption. This is also the place for my blog people to talk amongst yourselves as the night unfolds. I’ll be holed up at Centennial Tower waiting for the Hawks’ decision-makers to pick their guys before emerging to explain themselves, but I will checking in on your comments.
So think positive thoughts and hope your Hawks buck recent trends and find a gem late in the first round. . . .

Im not mad at that pick. I talked about him a lot before the draft so I was a fan of his. I think he is going to push Marvin hard for that starting job. Dude is a monster on the boards.

WE TOOK ANOTHER FORWARD, DID ANYONE CALL THAT??????
I hope that means we are trading Marvin for something. And after we blow this draft and lose Joe can we fire Sund and hire Prichard from Oklahoma City, like yesterday!!

My guess is maybe they are trading down in the first round to pick Whiteside or Alabi with the #31 pick (currently owned by the Nets) so that they don’t have to commit as much salary.

Why do the Hawks never draft a center? Forwards, Forwards, Forwards, Forwards, Forwards…
Maybe Sund has a plan, I really have no faith that he does.

This allows the Hawks to get their big man and fill in another depth position and pay both players less than they would have paid James.

Solomon Alabi
* SI Rank
* 7.5
* Ranking System
Position: C
Class: Junior
School: Florida State
Conference: Atlantic Coast
HT: 7′1″
WT: 251
Biography: Alabi declared for the draft after leading Florida State with 11.7 points and 2.3 blocks per game as a sophomore. In 77 career games with the Seminoles, he averaged 9.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and a school-record 2.1 blocked shots. The Nigerian-born center was a third-team all-ACC pick this past season when he helped Florida State to the NCAA tournament for the second straight year. He was twice chosen to the ACC’s all-defensive team, finishing second to teammate Chris Singleton for the conference’s defensive player of the year in 2009-10 after leading the ACC with 75 blocks. Expected to be picked late in the first round or early in the second, Alabi has a chance to be a very solid NBA player if he continues to show improvement. He plays well around the basket and can also step outside to hit shots from 10-15 feet. He is strong and has great length, making him an imposing figure on the defensive end. Alabi is still learning the game – mostly on the offensive end – and limited experience while being 22 years old will likely prevent him from going higher in the draft.

Nets struck a deal to get the Hawks pick at No. 24, and grab Texas forward Damion James. Hawks get Nets’ picks at 27 and 31, source says.

Damion James:::
Meets my criteria: (not that that make a hill o’ beans)
*he’s a basketball player
*he has ”competitive spirit” [warrior mentality]
Mary Ellen – think Rodman
Don’t try to label him.
Bilas said he can *guard* multiple pos.
Don’t dismiss that statement.
Think *Pippin
*Main thing = *guard* = *defense *[from above]…^…

Seriously, I’d rather us have drafted a back up point guard like Armon Johnson than another forward.
Please let their be some sort of trade in the works.
Calling it right now “minimum” of 3 guys taking after our pick will be All-Stars, right it down!!!
