Can the Hawks put an end to this? (Benny Sieu/Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)
MILWAUKEE– No deep analysis necessary for this one. Basically Game 4 will show us what the Hawks are about. Are they mentally tough? Do they have pride? Are they for real?
They’ve said the right things about being embarrassed by what happened in Game 3 and vowing to respond this time once they get challenged but right now the Hawks are in a show-me state. That’s what happens when you get blown out on the road by a team you handled at home. The game was barely four minutes old, the Hawks down just 14-5, and Smoove knew they were in trouble.
“It felt like in the huddle we was down by 20 in the fourth quarter,” he said. “It was only the first timeout. I could tell everybody was tensed up. I could tell we wasn’t having fun at that point and time and it carried on pretty much the whole game. We’ve got to be able to play loose and free, and not worry about what’s going on around us and play with a lot of confidence.”
So after getting humbled like that, after a brutal video session Sunday morning followed by a practice, after two days to think about how they got bullied, are the Hawks better prepared mentally for Game 4?
“I think so,” Josh said. “Everybody is focused. Nobody wants to get blown out, I don’t care if it’s at home or on the road. It left a sour taste in our mouths yesterday. Definitely a wake-up call. We’ve just got to be prepared for anything they throw at us. I think we will play with a sense of urgency early on and not wait until we are down by 20-plus to be able to answer back.”
If there are skeptics among you, that’s with good reason. You’ve seen this story too many times. Hawks win home playoff games. Hawks don’t compete in road playoff games (with that one notable exception in Miami). Hawks can’t quite fulfill their potential. Hawks remain a second-tier team.
It’s got to feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick that football with Lucy holding. This would be the time you finally kick the dang thing only to have her pull it away again and ending up on your back feeling like a simp. Heck, I wasn’t sure where I was going with that but it’s actually not a bad analogy for Game 3, huh?
“For me it was a little disappointing because we didn’t respond,” Woody said. “You would hope that you’ve grown a little bit from last two years so the games won’t be [as] lopsided as it was [Saturday] night. You have got to learn from it and improve.”
Let’s forget what’s happening to Denver, Dallas, and the Lakers. Sure, those series show that nothing is for certain in the playoffs, even for the defending champs, but let’s not pretend they have anything to do with the Hawks. For one thing, all of those teams have more currency than the Hawks, who took another step by winning 53 games but won’t earn real respect until they can make a legit postseason run.
The Hawks have internal questions to answer and can’t be looking elsewhere to take comfort from getting blistered in the Bradley Center. Josh said the Hawks know winning tonight would help answer lingering questions about this group.
“The first two times [in the playoffs], especially when we first got in, we was new we didn’t understand things about the playoffs and the postseason,” Josh said. “We was just playing with a lot of momentum at home. We didn’t really know what to do on the road. Last year we still was young but we had the depth that we needed and we had the maturity and growth that we needed to be able to win games on the road.
“We’ve got to be able to approach every road game like we do home games: confident and not worried about the crowd and get back to having fun.”
The Hawks can earn redemption tonight. That’s always the cool thing about the playoffs. Win tonight for a 3-1 lead and so much pressure is alleviated from the Hawks. The questions would be about how the Bucks can possibly hope to avoid elimination at Philips Arena on Wednesday.
Lose and … well, at least the Hawks have homecourt.
“You play the regular season to get homecourt advantage,” Woody said. “Just in case. [Tonight] is a big game. If we win tomorrow night we can go home and wrap it up. If not we’ve just got to go home and handle our business there and continue to play it out until we can win four games.”
If the Hawks need to rely on homecourt advantage to win a series nearly everyone expected them to win convincingly it wouldn’t feel like they’ve taken another step, would it? And that’s before you consider what it would mean for a second-round series against the Magic, whose only concern is whether they can sweep the Bobcats tonight.
Better for the Hawks to win tonight and prove that Saturday wasn’t what they are about. They can show that they can win road playoff games under pressure. They can put down a plucky opponent that rose up for a quick minute but couldn’t hang when the Hawks played their game.
“The great teams, they figure it out eventually and we are not there yet,” Woody said. “We are still learning.”

Woodson said if we don’t win tonight we should just try win 4 games. THERE IS NO URGENCY WITH THIS DAMN TEAM. NO ONE IS TAKING MILWAUKEE SERIOUSLY AND THEY ARE SHOWING IT IN THESE COMMENTS. GUYS ACT LIKE WE CAN JUST FART AROUND ON THE ROAD AND JUST WIN AT HOME

The Hawks can talk all they want to about being embarrassed and how Saturday was unacceptable, but the problem is they just did not play hard in Game 3. All their problems were effort related and that just cannot happen.
What could Coach Woodson have possibly said during that film session? Other than Joe, everyone acted like they did not want to even play. Tired of listening to this joke of a team talk. They need to shutup. Half of what they say is not from the heart anyways. Just a bunch of scripted crap. Sick of hearing them mewl on about how their going to do this or that, only to watch them play with as little effort as possible.
They want support? They want respect? THEN PLAY HARD!! I can live with a loss. Can’t support guys that won’t come to play every night.

I fully expect Zaza to have a little MMA audition tonite on the court. Kevin Garnett flashback.
On Sat, nobody looked tough or prepared for playoff battle-ready, basketball. We set a tone with high-flying and speed in Games 1 and 2, but not hard-nosed, grinding, no layup PLAYOFF basketball.
Tonight is the night to see if we understand that concept or are going the “run-n-gun offense /can’t pound it out” route. Warren Moon and Houston Oilers, send help. We see where that got them

MC,
In my opinion, this game should be huge from the players point of view. Because if they win, they should feel better about their chances when it comes time to win a road game against Orlando (since we dont have home-court to fall back on in round 2).
But if they lose, then in the back of their minds, whenever they play in Orlando, they will tighten up and not respond well to adversity.
And I disagree with Woody. It doesn’t take a great team to figure out how to win on the road. Nobody is expecting the Hawks to win a game 7 on the road. We just expect them to give themselves a chance to win in the fourth against a team who is without 2 of their best players (Bogut and Redd).
However, these Hawks have been resilient all year, and whenever they seem out for the count, they always bounce back. So win or lose, I expect a much better effort from the Hawks tonight.

At this point, they can say all these things, but until they actually go out and give a solid, winning road performance it doesn’t mean anything.
How many times have we heard, “we have to learn from this,” “we have to bring more energy from the start,” etc. etc. This being the third straight year in the playoffs for this group renders those quotes useless. At this point the only way to change the perception is to go out and win games on the road. Or at the very least be competitive which they haven’t done except for the one game against Miami where they didn’t show up. Tonight will tell us a lot.

MC-
When teams lose by 20 it not a player thing… it’s a coach thing. I know all the arguments about players have to make shots but when you come into a game and play with no focus and no game plan… it’s coaching. You ignore what works and let your team play however they want it’s coaching. If players, that are in, don’t follow the game plan (if you had one) take them out. You come out of timeouts and the team still does not execute. That’s coaching. The pick & roll with bibby and/or crawford with horford had been working the entire series. they should run that play in the ground but the don’t. If your players are not accepting your coaching its time to change the coach. Same excuses, same reasons, same results.

The talking points by the players after the game really have to stop- I support the Hawks, but man we have got to stop losing games by 20+ pts to sub par teams. THIS IS THE PLAYOFFS GUYS COME HUNGRY!
We really need to mature from this “I need the crowd to help me get in the game/win syndrome” which is a direct hindrance to our ability to win on the road. I support all the players but when will Coach W consider limiting Marvin’s minutes-he looks so lost out there right now……

If this was a regular season game, I would have to speak “The Truth” about the awful “pre-season-like” performance the Hawk displayed in playoff game 3. If this was a regular-season game, I would mention about the lack of playoff intensity as compared to the Bucks. I would also mention about the Hawks shyness away from committing “Hard-Fouls” that is so customary during a playoff series; not to mention the lack of aggression the Hawks shows on defense and offense. But since these are post-season playoff games, I’m going to let the Hawks actions speak for themselves.

Marvin is completely, utterly lost and useless. MC, I know you weren’t covering the team this past offseason, but who in the hell were we bidding against when we gave him an absurd 5 year contract.
Why didn’t we just wait for somebody else to offer him and then match if it was worth it like we did with Josh Smith? I just don’t understand why we have give 7.5 mil per for 5 more years when he hadn’t proven anything and in fact seemed to be regressing each year. That was just an awful move by Sund. As I have said before, imagine where this team would be had we taken a smarter/cheaper route like Delfino or Barnes to start at the 3 for us. Both would have provided more veteran leadership and toughness then we can even hope for from Marvin Williams. I cannot believe we will we be stuck watching him for 4 more seasons after this one.

Relax. Hawks in 5. This team has a built in destruction factor…It can’t be changed…They’ll still win.
One comment on iso Joe…..First of all, I’m a fan of Joe, big fan. Secondly, the way he sets himself up to launch a shot or get free or dribbles through his legs or feints….this type of maneuvering really doesn’t set him up to make razor sharp passes to cutting teammates…ie., the best time to throw the ball might be when it’s between his legs. It’s not like he’s standing still with the ball over his head looking to dish it off….just not the way he plays…..dont’ know what to do about this.
Go Hawks!

No sir, it would not.
Last year they took 7 games to win a series most considered to be a toss-up, and that was with a less talented, more injured roster against a team at full strength. If this more talented team takes 7 games to beat a team missing its two best players, it’s safe to say that’s a significant step back from last season.

In Game 6 of the Boston series, it was Marvin who stepped up.
Last year in Game 4 in Miami, Zaza was the big time player who stepped up.
I don’t want a high scoring game out of #5 tonight . . . just his regular all around “energy game”.

All of that Hot Sauce dribbling crap ain’t worth a damn in the playoffs. Nobody is going to “oooo” and “aaaaah” for his azz on the road. He just needs to play solid basketball, without all the theatrics. Make his open shots and take people off the dribble when he knows he has the advantage.

Like Sekou just tweeted, the Bucks are keeping the Hawks out of the paint to start this game — difference is, the Hawks are actually moving the ball today and getting rhythm jumpers instead of creating shots one on one. Rhythm shots >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> out of rhythm shots.

Bibby is doing what Jennings did in Game 3. Way to knock down your shot man.
As for my Crawford comments . . you dang right he gets dissed now. He’s our 2nd leading scorer and we need him to show up. JR Smith in Denver is missing in action for the Nuggets too. All I know is if JJ were playing like he is so far, the JJ hate would be on level 10 on this blog.
drmaryb . .. I’m not a fan of the “tricky dribble” if he’s doing it just to be doing it. His play sometimes reminds me of how Jason Williams used to play in Sacramento . . when his nickname was “White Chocolate”.
J Will was exciting to watch, but they needed a more steady floor leader. That’s why they traded for Bibby. And Hubie Brown took all of that flash out of J-Will’s game while in Memphis, and made him a much better PG.
So that’s what I need from Crawford in the playoffs.
More substance . . . less flash.
By the way, I played those 5 numbers you listed today in Tennessee’s Pick 5. I’ll see how Ms. Cleo-ish you really are, if those numbers drop or not.

Backcourt was very good in that half, and the Hawks actually managed to maintain an advantage on the boards for a change, but the defense has to get better and the front court has to contribute something offensively in the 2nd half for the Hawks to win this game. I still think getting to the line is the key to winning this game, because that will take the crowd out of it as well.

We need a serious run in the 3rd, followed by some steady play (particularly on defense), and then either an explosive late 4th quarter, or grind it out to the end (with the lead, of course).

I missed the first half of this game due to work, but looking at the numbers, I see that that the Hawks are winning the rebounding and turnover battles. That’s a good sign, as it means they will get more possessions for the game. Right now, the Bucks are shooting 54% from the field. If the Hawks can step up their defense and cut that down, I think they will be alright and can pull out a win.

tonight is just an example of how the Hawks win inspite of Woodson.
All the Hawks shots seem to be tough, 1-on-1 contested jumpers
Meanwhile the bucks = wide open Js and guards blowing by big men on woodson’s switching D aka easy lay up drills…..yet only down 4.

Maybe Coach W will try a zone instead of switching D, which is killing us.

To be completely real, I don’t think we are going to get many quality minutes out of Smoove in the 2nd half. He was way too eager to make big plays in the first half, too amped up, and ended up picking up 2 early fouls as a result, and I don’t think the Hawks can count on that changing in the 2nd half. Having Horford out there will be key because he has the quickness to stay with opposing guards momentarily when he’s switched on them, and he can knock down mid range jumpers with more regularity than Zaza. But more than anything, I think the Hawks need a big half out of Joe to win this game. They need him to play like the clear-cut best player on the floor. He’s been good so far, but he is capable of playing even better.

“And why no Joe Smith when Smoove & Horfy were on the bench?

Bucks don’t play more than one true big man at a time. If Joe Smith is out there he’s going to be on the perimeter guarding Delfino, and then the Hawks will be getting burned even worse than they are now.
The switching D kills the Hawks whenever Zaza is in because he’s not even close to quick enough to keep players like Salmons and Jennings in front of him. With Smoove on the bench it’s even worse because there’s no second line of defense when those players eventually get to the hoop. When Horford returns to the game, matching him up on those perimeter guys isn’t an ideal matchup either, but Horford has the quickness to at least keep them at bay momentarily and force them to take jump shots.

Anyone that thinks MWoodson is a playoff calibur HC is crazy. The Bucks are shredding his beloved switching DEF and this fool refuses to admit it’s happening, and thus, won’t make a change or adjustment. He certainly won’t make any changes or adjustments before halftime. Woodson is so obcessed with trying to protect his beloved PG MBibby, he’s putting an unfair burden on all of his other players. IF BIBBY CAN’T DEFEND AGAINST DELFINO OR JENNINGS, HOW IN THE HELL DOES HE EXPECT HORFORD, ZAZA OR SMOOVE TO HANDLE THEM? STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES!

To those of you calling for the Hawks to switch to a zone, do you really feel confident that the Hawks can communicate enough to stop Jennings’ drives without fouling and can rotate on to the Bucks’ multitude of shooters in time? They are struggling pretty badly with rotation in the current defense…
I’m with thomas22. What the Hawks really need is someone who can intimidate the Bucks when they get in the paint. That means Zaza or Horford has to take it upon himself to put Jennings on his azz instead of just trying to block his shot.

True. The only problem is that we can’t count on “others” to cover the guys who are cutting to the basket. This is why Milwaukee scores like they weren’t the league’s second worst shooting team. Because we continue to play 3 or 4 on 5 most defensive possessions.

It’s pretty clear from watching this game that the Hawks have not improved at all from last season. An improved team would have dominated this game, even after losing last year. That’s what would have shown mental growth. The Hawks are in serious danger of going 7 games and possibly losing to a team missing its two best players that is probably not even as good as the Hawks at full strength.

Switching seems like a decent strategy to implement when it catches opponents by surprise. But, once coaches watch tapes of how the Hawks execute it, you can see the MANY flaws that it offers. And the Bucks haven’t stopped taking advantage of it since we got here to Milwaukee.
Credit some of it to good shooting. Guys like Illyasova and Delfino were getting those corner 3 looks in games 1 and 2, they just didn’t knock em’ down. They’re much more confident shooting in Milwaukee in front of their homecrowd.

If the Hawks played 80% of the teams in the league on a neutral court I’m not sure they would win. I think the ASG needs to start putting the fans on the payroll, since we seem to be this important to the team’s success.

Kurt Thomas was salary cap filler in the Richard Jefferson trade, and now he’s playing a key role in a playoff series. You think the Hawks couldn’t use a tough, hard-nosed, immovable object like him in the paint?
This is where having an uncreative second-rate GM comes back to bite you in the azz. How hard would it have been to find a way to pick him up in that deal? You think he wouldn’t help the Hawks guard Dwight Howard?

I don’t even know if losing a game like this is any better. At least if the game had gone back and forth and the Bucks just pulled it out in the end, you could think that you have a fighting chance. The Hawks got blown out in Game 3, and got methodically out-grinded in Game 4 by a team that was just better. Neither outcome gives you any confidence whatsoever that this team can beat anyone on the road in the playoffs.

Over the last 2gms we’ve been schooled by a very young PG named BJennings. This is a PG that would have likely gotten less than 10 inconsistent MPG if he played under MWoodson. With JJ likely leaving, we can’t afford the stubbornness, stupidity, bias, and lack of imagination, innovation, strategy and adjustments that have come to define HC Mike Woodson.
Retaining JJ isn’t the biggest offseason move we need to make. Getting rid of HC Mike Woodson should be our #1 priority.

Hawks shot 47%, 50% from 3, 86% from the line which by all accounts is a pretty good game offensively.
Bucks shot 55%, 88% from the line on 32 attempts, which is a PHENOMENAL game offensively.

Seriously, what happened to that great coaching we saw in games one and two? The Bucks have been abusing that switching D the entire game…pick, switch, penetrate to the lane or dish for wide open J’s. Why no adjustment on D? Also, you call a timeout in the final minute so Joe can frantically dribble to the three point line to hoist a wild @$$ three under duress? No screen to get him open, no double screen to free up another perimeter shooter? I swear, this team and its coach are schizophrenic. One game they can look like an experienced championship contender, the next they resemble an AAU team. In the words of Slim Shady, will the real Atlanta Hawks please stand up.

Win this series and the team has still clearly gone backwards. Last year’s Miami team was better than this year’s Milwaukee team, at least as far as talent. Milwaukee’s 2 best players are injured and they are being led by a rookie — a damn good rookie, but still a rookie who ended the season on a terrible shooting slump. On the flip side, this year’s Hawks team is better than last year’s Hawks team, talent-wise, just because of the addition of Jamal Crawford, not to mention this year’s Hawks team is healthier.
If the Hawks wanted to show progress, they should have DOMINATED this series. They should have played the Bucks this close in Game 3 and beaten their azzes today. Instead this series is, in all likelihood, going 7 games, despite the Hawks’ roster being improved and healthier from last year and the Bucks being less talented than last year’s Heat.
The Hawks have regressed, regardless of the outcome of this series.

It’s situations/mistakes like this, added up over the course of the season & play-offs that costs a team wins.

I hate losing, especially when you should win. I only saw from the middle of the 3rd on and clearly the HAWKS brought more effort but only a little better execution. The stretch in the 4th quarter where, we have 3 straight possession where Evans took shots with only one possession having more than one pass. That was bad execution!! Smoove had just hit 4 free throws in a row, but never touched the ball. Woody called a timeout and tried to get the ball into Josh, but the Bucks took that same timeout and setup a defense to stop Josh.
I really hate to go through this kind of growth process but I guess this is the only way this team can learn. They brought the right level of energy on the road, but not the execution. I expect nothing but maximum effort and Wed night and the crowd should be wild.

VenomSpitter, I have to agree with you. I’ve been dogging Woodson all season so I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt when I finally saw some offensive execution, but seriously, it probably was because they were at home. I saw no attempt to duplicate the offense we saw at Philips and no attempt to make adjustments in this game…that’s coaching. I don’t agree that Horford can’t play center though even though the last two games provide evidence to the contrary. I don’t think he is being used correctly on defense which hurts him a lot. I mean seriously, the Bucks don’t have any players on the court in this series that are bigger than Al, so it’s not his size, it’s the fact that all season, he’s been on the perimeter chasing 1’s and 2’s. Name one other center in the league that does that night in and night out. Honestly, if you don’t trust your point guards to contain the other team’s point guards, what sense does it make to hand the job over to your center and power forward? If Al was kept near the basket more on defense and coached up to use his quickness on offense, back to the basket, I think his talent at the the 5 would be much more obvious. Until that happens, we’ll never know just how good he really is at center.

That’s the problem. And that problem stems from a poor approach. Whenever we lose, we sound as if we had no idea why we lost. It’s either a lack of energy, or it’s a “the effort was there, I don’t know, we just gotta figure it out and come out harder the next game”.

Boney,
In a way it is Woodson’s fault. When the team is away from home and can’t feed off the crowd to get them going, the only thing they have to rely on in intense road games like this is confidence in their offensive and defensive execution. Clearly that wasn’t the case. One such example is when the called a timeout in the final minute and out of the timeout, Joe frantically dribbles to the three point line and launches a wild three that was well contested. Typically, you’d like to see a a play drawn up to get your key players open (unless you have Lebron who can consistently create on his own). Also, when your defensive scheme is clearly being abused and creating easy opportunities and open shots for the opposing offense, it’s up to the coach to make adjustments to that scheme, not the players. Sometimes, you can blame road woes on the players for lack of effort and enthusiasm, but clearly that wasn’t the case with the Hawks tonight. They played with good intensity and focus, they were just outcoached.

I look at the Hawks as being in the same position as the Pistons a few years back. They had back to back 50 win seasons with Rick Carlisle, but couldn’t get over the hump despite all of their talent. They swapped Carlisle with Larry Brown, kept the same team and won a championship over a heavily favored and arguably more talented Lakers team. Coaching makes a huge difference guys. Michael Jordan was always the best player on the planet, but not a champion until Phil Jackson arrived. Same with Kobe and Shaq. Coaching matters and based on the fact that this team has been making the same mistakes and excuses for the last three years, it’s time for a change. and woody still can’t figure it out!
blame at JJ for not leading
blame at Josh for WEAK drives to the basket almost EVERY TIME WEAK LAY UP ATTEMPTS… WHERE ARE HIS MONSTER SLAMS??
blame at marvin, well for suiting up
blame at COACHING for putting horford at 5. wtf is that?? ZAZA at 5 horford 4 and 5 if desperate only. No excuse for us not dominating the bucks in the paint
plenty of blame, but mostly to WOODY for not putting his chess pieces on the board right, just random junk that hasn’t worked for years, and only works when his players say F that and have ALL STAR performances to RESCUE HIM from his BAD COACHING

Folks…it doesn’t matter. Really…the Magic are last year’s Cavs – they swept the Bobcats and will be well-rested for the next round. The Hawks don’t stand a chance of winning a road playoff game…so why even bother…just let the Bucks have the honor of being sliced and diced up by the Magic.
Tell us, Mike Woodson, why the fans should even have an inkling of hope. You are the coach…tell us how a team so talented can look so pathetic away from home? Is it really just a lack of focus? A lack of energy? A lack of discipline?

keep trying to sneak transition baskets that arent there.. and its not like we have Nash or someone at point. it eventually ends up looking sloppy. yea.. it might fly regular season, but thats not the case come playoffs when its time for execution. the defense stinks. too much going on… overly complicated takes away from instincts. to be honest switching kills your help and weak side defense..

They really do tell the story.
The Bucks getting wide-open looks from beyond the arc.
The Hawks highlights featured mostly JJ dribbling, dribbling, dribbling and forcing up tough, contested looks that went in.
Credit him for them going in, but it shouldn’t be this difficult to get a player as talented as JJ to get buckets. We don’t move him around off the ball nearly enough. This guy can stroke it, but has to work way too hard to get his.

You can’t really listen to much of what Charles says on TNT. He only likes a few teams in the league and is heavily biased. Basically, he only sees Cleveland and Orlando in the East and thinks there’s no one else worthy of talking about there. In the West he only sees the Lakers and has a strange love affair/crush with Manu Ginobili and the Spurs.

If so…why is Bibby playing extended minutes?
Reg. season 27 (v) play-0ffs 30.
Plus his min. were down @ the end of season.
Still if Wdsn whining about the def.;
Once again, why Bibby?
Defense again:
He’s gonna break down film.
When he watches, does he, can he comprehend;
Zaza cannot guard Luke Ridnour isolated on the perimeter?
Watching film:
Were four games in;
does he have the ‘capacity’ [accumen] to assimilate;
that Bibby cannot guard Salmons?

Sometimes you have to have a “Bread & Butter”

I wonder if the criticism or disrespect this team hears ( and they have to hear it) from the media and the fans mean anything to them. Does getting blown out by a team of inferior talent that missing it’s two best players piss them off? Does the center consistently guarding point guards on the perimeter instead of providing help defense in the lane give them a moment of pause? These are Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy! lol

Boney, nobody here is doubting that they take this series.
But, showings like the ones we saw in Milwaukee doesn’t make anybody confident about our chances of advancing beyond the next round, if we get there.
I’m still confident the Hawks will win this series, mainly because I don’t see the Bucks winning a game in Phillips Arena. But, I expected them to win this series fairly easily considering Milwaukee’s without two of their top threats in Bogut and Redd.
Again, it’s all about expectations. If you hold high expectations from a team, and then they don’t deliver, and then they can’t figure out WHY THEY CAN’T DELIVER…
It doesn’t make me feel too optimistic of our chances to advance beyond this round.

If you had followed my posts all year, you would know that I’m evaluating the Hawks based on how much progress they show compared to last year. So far they are on the exact same course as last year’s playoffs despite having more talent on the roster than last year and despite facing a team with significantly less talent on the roster compared to last year’s Heat. That is unacceptable.

If I hear the words “we like our core” from this moronic ownership group and GM one more time, I will puke. A good core is one like that of OKC, where there is still room to grow and put other pieces around it. This core has already maxed out it’s ability and will not sniff the finals or anything close to it.
I ask again, why the hell did we give Marvin’s duck butt a 5 year deal when nobody else wanted him? Completely inexcusable and a lazy job by Sund. I hate to say it, but we are headed for more rebuilding if JJ leaves and Marvin and Horford continue to regress.

Your comments are right on point. I’m glad to see one strong-minded fan in our fan base. It’s refreshing to hear from someone who understands the ups-and-downs of the NBA and stands behind a team through the good and bad, while never failing to believe or trashing the team.

Did we not bring in Joe Smith because woody wanted a vet inserted and repeated before the end of this season that we would see him and need him in games like last nights?
Resigned both Marvin and Bibbs like woody said he wanted?
brought in another big in collins who did well against the likes of shaq and other centers in games the previous 2 years to help us with matchup problems during the season and the playoffs?
What difference does it make when woody would have Kurt Thomas on our bench next to Joe Smith,if thomas were available? He would not be playing!
Stackhouse nor jamison would be playing either!!
back in 2008 when jason collins was traded from the nets, here is what was said and bout his numbers:club General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced today.
“We are pleased to add a veteran big man with Jason’s team defensive skills and outstanding intangibles to the Grizzlies,” Wallace said. “He has considerable playoff experience with the Nets and will add depth and a defensive presence at the center position. The entire organization wishes Stromile all the best with the Nets.”
Currently in his seventh season, Collins owns career averages of 4.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 510 games (404 starts). A strong post defender, Collins had spent his entire NBA career with the Nets after they acquired his draft rights (18th selection in the first round of the 2001 NBA Draft) along with Richard Jefferson and Brandon Armstrong from the Houston Rockets for the draft rights to Eddie Griffin on June 27, 2001.
Collins, who attended Stanford, was the starting center for two NBA Finals teams (2002, 2003) and averaged 3.7 points and 4.4 rebounds in 23.7 minutes in 75 career playoff games (58 starts) with the Nets.
He was the starting center when the nets were last in the playoffs and he has the experience..Why blame sund when its the coaches decision to put or not put him in?
As for Joe Smith, here is what he has done the past 2 years in the playoffs for the CAVS..
year/team/games/GS/MIN/FGM-A/3PM-A/FTM-A/OFF/DEF/REB/A/ST/BL/TO/PF/POINTS
07-08 CLE 13 0 263 36-74 0-1 14-22 20 40 60 6 5 7 6 41 86
08-09 CLE 13 0 217 23-50 3-5 23-29 10 38 48 3 6 7 7 25 72
And we can’t use he nor his production game by game or right now? Heck yea, but, your coach is not implimenting him along with his experience and productivity into the game.
Jamaal Crawford is the only one who gets consistenct minutes..And thats fine,i agree with that..
Joe Smith and Collins, were not here last year and woody stressed that these type of players (who were vets, productive, and had playoffs experience) were what he needed..
But,he for whatever reasons are not adding them in the mix for the bucks to configure.(When they,(skiles and staff, break down the tapes)..
Note to woody:We have digital vids, recorders,DVR AND DVD’S now,so throw away the VCR fred flintstone,i meant woody..
SO YOUR “DEFEND THE POST” CLAIM IS WEAK AGAINST AN INFERIOR TEAM SWEETY..
Its just that we’re being outcoached by a coach who does not know how to
use his players to his advantage, nor knows how to adjust and does the same thing over and over and over again expecting a different outcome..I think its called,”INSANITY”!!
Don’t even try to put Larry Brown into this mix because woodson has had his team a lot freaking longer and at least woodson has won a ring,AS A HEAD COACH!!
WOODY WAS AN ASSISTANT..
And last nights comments (by woodson),on how the bucks defended home court and how we do as well shows that this team does take the personality of its coach along with his beliefs, that as long as were home we’ll be ok..And he kept harporing on our 53 wins this season..
53 wins was great woody,no doubt about it..But guess what? It means squat when your in the playoffs(unless your looking at your home court advantage)..The playoffs are a different season, and you have to break down you opponents game and adjust your scheme as well..And,guess what? We don’t!!
This guy is clueless and now with his 1-10 playoff road record, and “strange”post games comments,he will never have a head coaching position again..He is not a young coach, whom you would say,”well,he has time to learn, improve, and change”..Woody is settled in his ways..
