Josh Smith: “Everybody knows there ain’t nothing to do in Milwaukee”

Nothing to do here?

Nothing to do here?

Woody figures the Hawks will encounter a “hostile environment” at Milwaukee’s Bradley Center for Game 3 oN Saturday. It might be particularly unwelcoming for Josh Smith after he pulled a Joakim Noah.

A reporter mentioned that Milwaukee is different from Miami, the Hawks’ first-round destination last year (and lemme tell you, this is another reason Hawks management was happy to draw Milwaukee instead of Miami this time).

So what will Smoove do in Brew City?

“Maybe go to Ruth’s Chris or something,” he said. (Sorry, Smoove, but the nearest locations are in Madison, Wisc. and Northbrook, Ill.)

“There’s pretty much nothing to do,” Smith said. “Miami has some really good restaurants. I never really did anything in Milwaukee. I would be happy to just find a restaurant. I’m not bashing the city but I’ve never actually did anything in Milwaukee so I really don’t know what is around there.”

By now Hawks PR Man Arthur Triche, seeing where this was headed, had creeped in to try and break up the party. But, Smoove being Smoove (”I don’t care!”) he wasn’t stopping.

Someone picked up on the Noah thread and asked Smith if he’d be taking any vacations in Milwaukee.

“Would you go there?” Smith asked. “Everybody knows there ain’t nothing to do in Milwaukee, man. Everybody knows that, (even) the people that live there.”

I’ve lived in Milwaukee (Sherman Park, then Eastside). It’s been a few years but I was never bored. But then I’m a low-key regular dude, not a millionaire celebrity athlete, so my “things to do” threshold may be somewhat lower than Smoove and Co.’s.

Josh’s tone was playful when he said these things but the folks in Milwaukee probably won’t be laughing. As I recall, they can be a bit prickly about the city’s image. Hey, it’s not easy being in Chicago’s shadow. They have Ruth’s Chris, you know.

Anyway, it will be all good for the Hawks if Smoove livens up Milwaukee the way Noah lit up Cleveland. But with a W, of course.

I was born in Milwaukee but spend my teenage years and adulthood here in the A. I still have family up there but my trips to visit are usually very short…because its Milwaukee. It’s a pretty vanilla (pun intended) town with a few nice family features (the lakefront, kids & art museums, etc) but its not even close to comparing to Atlanta.

Tell Josh to grab some frozen custard and a jumbo burger from Kopp’s.

Those are ignorant comments from Smith. I’ve had a chance to go to Milwaukee several times, and it is a suprisingly interesting and dynamic city. Great riverfront and downtown, with very cool Calatrava museum looking out over the lake. Maybe it’s not a big hip hop/ clubbing town, if that’s what he wants.

A few boos will only fire him up. No big deal.

Responding to the last blog topic, of course the Hawks shouldn’t be looking ahead, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t. I don’t think it’s realistic to expect this team to win a series against Orlando without home court advantage, but it is realistic to expect them to make it a 7 game series. The win against Orlando in March was no fluke. If they use the same defensive game plan, playing Howard straight up and not allowing the shooters to get into a rhythm, they should be able to scrape together enough offense to win the home games. If Howard somehow manages to score 30-40 points efficiently in the post and the Magic win, you tip your hat and go on to the next game.

I’ve never been to Milwaukee, but I would think in a city that is known for beer (even if it is sh-tty beer) there would be SOMETHING to do.

@ ignorant athlete: milwaukee is fine. unfortunately downtown isn’t as vibrant now as when i lived there (’99-’02) and most of my old friends are married and lame (not blaming that on milwaukee). riverfront is great when it’s warm enough to enjoy it.

@ Mel: eventually Coach Vacate will get his comeuppance.

Milwaukee’s one of the best places to be during the summer months. There’s always some kind of “____-fest” going on. Like Summerfest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summerfest). And there’s plenty of bars and clubs, too, if that’s what you’re in to. Like DA McGee said, though…he should probably worry about the Bucks and Squad 6

Josh should wear a cheese-head hat during the pre-game warm-ups as the fans are entering the arena. Or better yet, tell the local media that their Mayor is a “Brat-head”… that woould go over well.

In the meantime, the Cavs are showing a few gaps and seams in Chicago. These guys are beatable. Hey, there’s an idea, Smoove couldhve gone to Chicago to check out the opposition (yeah, I know, but I’l optimistic about the Hawks’ chances)
