Josh Smith: “Everybody knows there ain’t nothing to do in Milwaukee”

Nothing to do here?

Nothing to do here?

Woody figures the Hawks will encounter a “hostile environment” at Milwaukee’s Bradley Center for Game 3 oN Saturday. It might be particularly unwelcoming for Josh Smith after he pulled a Joakim Noah.

A reporter mentioned that Milwaukee is different from Miami, the Hawks’ first-round destination last year (and lemme tell you, this is another reason Hawks management was happy to draw Milwaukee instead of Miami this time).

So what will Smoove do in Brew City?

“Maybe go to Ruth’s Chris or something,” he said. (Sorry, Smoove, but the nearest locations are in Madison, Wisc. and Northbrook, Ill.)

“There’s pretty much nothing to do,” Smith said. “Miami has some really good restaurants. I never really did anything in Milwaukee. I would be happy to just find a restaurant. I’m not bashing the city but I’ve never actually did anything in Milwaukee so I really don’t know what is around there.”

By now Hawks PR Man Arthur Triche, seeing where this was headed, had creeped in to try and break up the party. But, Smoove being Smoove (”I don’t care!”) he wasn’t stopping.

Someone picked up on the Noah thread and asked Smith if he’d be taking any vacations in Milwaukee.

“Would you go there?” Smith asked. “Everybody knows there ain’t nothing to do in Milwaukee, man. Everybody knows that, (even) the people that live there.”

I’ve lived in Milwaukee (Sherman Park, then Eastside). It’s been a few years but I was never bored. But then I’m a low-key regular dude, not a millionaire celebrity athlete, so my “things to do” threshold may be somewhat lower than Smoove and Co.’s.

Josh’s tone was playful when he said these things but the folks in Milwaukee probably won’t be laughing. As I recall, they can be a bit prickly about the city’s image. Hey, it’s not easy being in Chicago’s shadow. They have Ruth’s Chris, you know.

Anyway, it will be all good for the Hawks if Smoove livens up Milwaukee the way Noah lit up Cleveland. But with a W, of course.

Laverne & Shirley

The Bucks were in a sing-a-long earlier today and sang, “We’re gonna make it after all!”

That maybe true, but hey Bucks! You’re NOT gonna make it out of the 1st Round! LOL!

Interesting enough that the two seeded teams with less wins than Milwaukee – have found a way to steal a game from the Cavs & Magic. That bodes well for the Hawks should we sweep the Bucks. We get more tape to review & a chance to see how their new additions and returning players are playing.
It also, means that they will have expended more energy to get out of this round #1.

I for one, can’t help but wonder how wicked the nay-sayers would be if we lost to a #7 or #8 seed after being a #1 or #2? Hopefully, we will not have to see that show on here!

We probably could WIN it all and still draw the IRE of some on here! Go Figure.

Ok Josh said Milwaukee is boring. Who gives a flip. Atlanta is boring. Miami is boring. LA is boring. The whole United States is boring. I’m moving to Brazil.

I lived in the Milwaukee area until I was 18 and on the eastside from 18-25. I can assure you unless insane amounts of alcohol are involved there is nothing to do there

Josh should have been a bit more tactful, but can’t hate on the dude for speaking his mind. Hope that does not fire up the Bucks!

About things to do in Milwaukee, all I’ve been hearing is food, beer, museum, pizza…I would think you can get all that anywhere in America??? That’s all you’all got? How about cold, miserable weather 10 months in a year?

Orlando/Charlotte. What a boringly brutal and ugly series!

Go Hawks. I’m only going to look ahead if Hawks win Game 3. Lots of the upper seeded teams are now beginning to lose that third game away. Hope Hawks are taking notes.

This is just a case of ignorance and bias that people have about cities smaller than where they are from or live. They just assume there’s nothing to do in the smaller city, without REALLY checking into it.

Unless your town is truly so small, that it has like 1 or 2 high schools, and wal-mart is basically one of the only shopping options in town..no malls…1 club (if that many)…I really dont understand how people can say its “nothing to do” in any metro area…let alone ones with millions of people like. MILWAUKEE.

I’m from Savannah and I get that attitude from ATL people all the time, yet I’ve been to clubs in Savannah, Augusta, Albany and Macon where I’ve had just as good of a time and saw just as many fine broad as I did in ATL clubs.

ATL clubs are overrated. It’s not that they suck, it’s just that for the most part they arent any better than clubs in several other cities, even including the ones in mid-sized cities within the state, let alone other metropolises with millions of people across the country.

LOL……nice game atlanta! Lose by 25 to a team without its best player. You might make it out of the 1st round but that is your ceiling. Josh smith will be finding him himself a fun exciting town very soon after the Bucks players themselves will. Atlanta has no chance after this round and lucked out with their first round draw.

I think he found something to do in Milwaukee: miss shots and get booed. Welcome, my dear friend. Please, stick around for awhile. We would love to have you back anytime.

I think it is admirable that a professional athlete is looking for interesting things to occupy his time between games. As a Milwaukee resident, I am happy to assist Mr. Smith in his search. Perhaps the Milwaukee Public Museum’s current exhibit on the Dead Sea Scrolls, the first time the artifacts have ever been assembled for public viewing, would be of interest to an individual of Mr. Smith’s breadth. It is just a short walk from his hotel and can satisfy his curiosity about the roots of his faith. When he completes that comtemplative journey, Mr. Smith might stroll along the river walk a few blocks east. There he could enjoy pleasant reflective moments of game 3 over a freshly-brewed cup of espresso or a cool Milwaukee micro brew. I tried to do this in Downtown Atlanta, but try as I might, I couldn’t find the Atlanta Riverwalk, nor even a river. Should I happen to meet Mr. Smith in Milwaukee, I’d love to take him for a ride on my boat. He will find me at my home on the river, just two blocks from his hotel. We can cruise down to any of about twenty restaurants of all types and prices, and patrons of varying interests and ages. But, should his appetite have been befouled by his unhappy performance in Game 3, we can always forgo food, and cruise out onto Lake Michigan. If he has the time, we could cruise down to Chicago or up and over to Detrot or Cleveland, if he hungers for the urban excitement that we in Milwaukee refer to as “the Ray Lewis Buckhead Experience.” We let that kind of things-to-do-for-professional-athletes activities to great places like Atlanta. In fact, Milwaukeans have always given Atlanta things that we don’t wish to have: the Milwaukee Hawks and the Milwaukee Braves, just to name two pieces of history. (Eddie Mathews and Henry Aaron did their best work in Milwaukee. Two pretty good professional athletes that lived here happily, as well.) By the way, Mr. Smith, if I have interested you to seek more sports history about your team’s roots, or about other noteable athletic events, within a block of the Bradley Center, you might stop by the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame. It’s always open. You will be walking right past it on the short walk back to the hotel following your Game 4 loss. Reading the plaques may be a small distraction to tonight’s outcome. To win this series, you will have to do it on your home court. For you, Milwaukee will be far worse than boring.

It's what u make it...
