Nothing to do here?
Woody figures the Hawks will encounter a “hostile environment” at Milwaukee’s Bradley Center for Game 3 oN Saturday. It might be particularly unwelcoming for Josh Smith after he pulled a Joakim Noah.
A reporter mentioned that Milwaukee is different from Miami, the Hawks’ first-round destination last year (and lemme tell you, this is another reason Hawks management was happy to draw Milwaukee instead of Miami this time).
So what will Smoove do in Brew City?
“Maybe go to Ruth’s Chris or something,” he said. (Sorry, Smoove, but the nearest locations are in Madison, Wisc. and Northbrook, Ill.)
“There’s pretty much nothing to do,” Smith said. “Miami has some really good restaurants. I never really did anything in Milwaukee. I would be happy to just find a restaurant. I’m not bashing the city but I’ve never actually did anything in Milwaukee so I really don’t know what is around there.”
By now Hawks PR Man Arthur Triche, seeing where this was headed, had creeped in to try and break up the party. But, Smoove being Smoove (”I don’t care!”) he wasn’t stopping.
Someone picked up on the Noah thread and asked Smith if he’d be taking any vacations in Milwaukee.
“Would you go there?” Smith asked. “Everybody knows there ain’t nothing to do in Milwaukee, man. Everybody knows that, (even) the people that live there.”
I’ve lived in Milwaukee (Sherman Park, then Eastside). It’s been a few years but I was never bored. But then I’m a low-key regular dude, not a millionaire celebrity athlete, so my “things to do” threshold may be somewhat lower than Smoove and Co.’s.
Josh’s tone was playful when he said these things but the folks in Milwaukee probably won’t be laughing. As I recall, they can be a bit prickly about the city’s image. Hey, it’s not easy being in Chicago’s shadow. They have Ruth’s Chris, you know.
Anyway, it will be all good for the Hawks if Smoove livens up Milwaukee the way Noah lit up Cleveland. But with a W, of course.

I love Josh Smith. I’m glad he is a Hawk. But, really, why are some of you that upset that he does not like Milwaukee? I’ve been there before and it’s an OK town. Summerfest is cool. Miller Park is a good park. The place has some things to offer.
Why some get so upset over Josh Smith not liking a town is beyond me. Really, who cares?

people (young players) like to party and drugs are never more than a bartender, bouncer or parking lot away. I don’t know if any of you remember being in your early 20’s, but the Hawks players abilitity to be “ballers” in those intensely popular nightclubs makes me nervous as hell. It only takes being pulled over in your friends car with a couple xanax and having that information publicized to ruin one’s career.
The Hawks lack of focus and intensity sometimes leaves you wondering how drunk or stoned they got the night before, but I don’t think the Hawks players party as hard as some of you seem to think. If they do, they’re probably pretty careful about it, because it sure as hell is easy to get in trouble. That said, I think the core is mature and paid enough to realize they can do whatever the hell they want when their careers end, that the present is not a time to be getting crunk in between games. Ben Roethlisberger and many others have made this all too obvious.
Charles Barkley’s the one who ha the best times in Atlanta, drugs, prostitutes, but hey, his career is over so i don’t care what he does.

Smith is just another ignorant moron who doesn’t want to admit that Milwaukee ia a hip town. The downtown area alone has over 75 hip hop oriented clubs and there sure aren’t any shortage of bars. I’ve been down in Atlanta about 10 times and there was less to do in Atlanta than in Milwaukee. We were just happy that we found white people in Atlanta.

Josh Smith must be a pretty big moron if he can’t find a restaurant since there’s over 200 restaurants in downtown Milwaukee. He’s just another iliterate boy from down south.

No need to bash Josh. He may not enjoy what Milwaukee has to offer, and that is his opinion. I, on the other hand, do enjoy what Milwaukee has to offer:
1) Today one of the most sought after directors in the world (Edo de Waart) is leading the MSO’s performance of Tchaikovsky’s “Pathetique”
2) Tomorrow the Bucks play the Hawks
3) The Brewers are playing the Cubs this weekend
4) The Milwaukee Art Museum (one of the most beautiful art museums in the world) is showing one of Raphael’s masterpieces (The Woman with the Veil)
5) Steaks at Carnivor or Mo’s are as good as the best in the country. You have to go to Argentina or Japan (true Kobe beef) to find better steaks
Just a short list of what the city has to offer. I could go on, but I am hoping you get the picture.

It seems to me that everything im hearing positive from people about milwaukee is things to do during certain times of the year. I think Josh is talking about a on a typical weekend. To be honest looking at an overview of a river front isn’t really something black people call fun for a weekend unless its like riverstreet in savannah, ga. I’m just being honest or you wanted to take your girl there for a romantic time.

Read the actual article you idiots. Josh “playfuly” said everybody knows there is nothing to do in MKE. He also said that I have never really spent much time there so he doesn’t know what to do. He was JOKING!!!! He was talking in reference to Miami vs MKE as destinations (sorry, guys but Miami is more of a destination than Wisconsin– hate to break it to you.)
Please actually read what is written, before commenting. You all are an embarrasment to this blog and Hawks fans.

The author did mention that Josh Smith was kidding. So why some of the bashing? There’s nothing to do in Atlanta either if you’re sitting on your behind looking at a computer worried about what Josh Smith said. I think some of you defending Milwaukee missed the point. There’s nothing to do in Milwaukee? Yeah, right! There is that thing called a “Playoff Game”? Maybe. Just maybe he was joking and the jokes on us for blogging with the author of this piece.

We are not talking about seasonal or special weekends in Milwaukee that are only decent.
Your comment is that what Black People can call fun—-as applicable to Milwaukee.
Sorry but as previous posts point out that Milw is 35-40% Black. Milwaukee is loaded with outstanding restaurants and many great watering holes. As I mentioned before there is a great casino downtown—-last time I was there I indeed saw many Black people enjoying themselves there.
Frankly, Ive been to Atlanta many times and aside from cnn and coca cola downtown is boring and actually a little frightening.
Yeah Buckhead is fine—-but Milwaukees Mason Street district is also pretty good.
I dont get Joshs comments—they are uncalled for and not true. If he has not idea of where to score in Milw get some of the Bucks players to tell him where he can pimp his ride.

I had a nun from Michigan who taught us the war between the states was not started because of slavery, but the history books and popular opinion continue to get it wrong. Why do you think Bret Favre did well in Wisconsin? There was nothing for him to do. He concentrated on football instead of booze and pain killers.
At least the Bucs have a title thanks to the Big O and Lew/Kareem.

Used to go to Milwaukee on business in the 80’s and as far as I know there are still plent of things to do:
1) Maders – best veal dishes ever.
2) Safe House – outstanding pub. Still have the bar magician?
3) Summerfest – music, food, beer along the lake front.

I grew up in Atlanta, and I still enjoy visiting family there. That being said, I’ve spent a lot of time in Milwaukee too, and it’s a great town. What I don’t understand is where all the hate for Cleveland comes from. I married a Clevelander, and I have to say, I’ve had as much fun in Cleveland as anywhere. It has Major League Sports, great culture (fantastic art museum and a world class symphony orchestra), wonderful Universities close by, a great microbrewery, and pretty darn good shopping and eating, as well as one of the greatest park systems in the country. I think a lot of people comment on things they really aren’t familiar with.

Nobody wants a war with Milwaukee…okay? I think the reason Josh’s comments are significant is that he probably won’t be out partying and living high til 3 a.m. on game night. And that’s good for the Hawks. Josh Smith, who is really a unique outstanding, great basketball player who thinks for himself and is now coming into his own, used to have a good game, then a horrible game, then a good game, back and forth back and forth. It wouldn’t be out of the ordinary to suggest maybe he celebrated somewhat. I would like to envision Josh under the covers, counting his stats to go to sleep.

I always hate these city comparisons, because every city has cool places, good areas, crappy places and bad areas. San Diego has a terrible Mexican slum. Santa Barbara has a law that allows homeless people to sleep on your lawn legally. On the other side, Cleveland has the Rock and Roll HOF, and right down the road in scenic Canton is the NFL HOF. So you take the bad with the good. I guess the only perfect town in the USA is Athens

I had some good pizza in Milwaukee. And I can even remember having a good steak there, too.
I was a college student back then- and severely underaged. But I remember this bar that looked the other way when we ordered pitchers of beer in Milwaukee. And I remember some pretty girls, but they walked a little hard.
But I was living and going to school in Chicago. And I was in Milwaukee to visit friends who would always come to Chicago for fun.
Oh, and for the Atlanta Hawks to be bored in Milwaukee may actually be a good thing. Josh Smith might just stay with the team and focus on the game.

The real culprits who incite controversy (about players’ comments, whether it’s Noah or Josh) are not the brain-farts who react with hate language, but the writers who stir it up. Since the source of the Josh story came from Milwaukee, no doubt they are just looking for an edge to help their team. Perhaps some good old fashion team execution would be a better alternative then the PR stunts. I remember the Boston Boo Birds going against Bibby for some off-comments he made. It only motivated him as he had some of his best games against Boston. Maybe Josh will do likewise and the stunt will be back-fire.

I live in Milwaukee, and its 40% African American look it up, and most of us have relatives from down south. I’ve been to Atlanta and had a good time, so I can’t say anything bad about the city, but seriously I don’t think half of the people on this blog have ever even been out of the south. Now to get to my point, The Hawks aren’t the best road team in the league, even without Bogut, Bucks will win this next game, and maybe even the game on Monday.
