Atlanta Hawks at Wizards: Suspenseful Standings

Washington–The Hawks aren’t watching scoreboards in Milwaukee or anywhere else because, really, what’s the point? With just three games left in the regular season the Hawks still don’t know if they will get the Bucks, Heat, or Bobcats in the first round of the playoffs.

“We are just concentrated on what we need to do,” Woody said. “Everything else will take care of itself. I think this thing is going to come all the way down until Wednesday, I really do.”

Further muddling all the playoff jockeying is neither Milwaukee nor any of the “bad” teams are laying down.

The Bucks somehow have won four in a row since Bogut’s injury. The ramshackle Pistons followed up their victory over the Hawks by going into Miami and beating the Heat. The Wizards turned back the Celtics here last night thanks to Shaun Livingston (remember him?).

This game is shaping up like the last time the Hawks were here, and remember how hard they had to work for that W. In addition to Livingston, guys like Andray Blatche, JaVale McGee and Nick Young are giving the Wiz a lift. This is the kind of thing that can happen with bad teams when guys aren’t sure about their futures.

The Celtics are in Milwaukee late tonight. If they lose and the Hawks win, that will give the Hawks a two-game lead with two to play. But the Hawks have to finish ahead of Boston so they still wouldn’t have the No. 3 seed locked down. The Hawks play at Milwaukee on Monday and the Celtics don’t play again until Tuesday.

Eventually Woody might have to make a decision on resting his regulars for the season finale against the Cavs.

“It all depends on how it plays out,” he said. “I’m not big on resting guys but I did it last year and it didn’t hurt us.”

Do you think?

Josh got benched because he wasn’t Boxing Out on th boards. Hasn’t Smoove looked tired lately? He plays soo hard & does so much to help his team win. He deserved a rest.

Woodson trusted the bench tonite. He benched our whippin’ boys too: marvin & bibby.

Boston is really controlling Milwaukee so far tonight. Even though it is just a three point game, the Celtics look like they have been dictating the tempo for the majority of the game. I hope that Milwaukee can pull out a win over the Celtics. That would put the Hawks in great position to secure that 3rd seed.

Great Win tonight! Even though the Wizards are a weak team, they did take it to Boston last night and played well for most of the game tonight. Good job by Woody in finding a good defensive group and letting them finish the game. Evans was playing much better defense than Marvin and Zaza was playing well as an enforcer. The fourth quarter defense was very good and I liked the offensive ball movement. (many more pick and rolls)

GO HAWKS!!

Ben I would actually like Boston to win tonight’s game, because I would like the Heat to move past the Bucks into the 5th spot. If the HAWKS win out they will have the 3rd spot regardless, but we need some more losses by Milwaukee so we can play them. This makes the next two games BIG, because we need to beat Milwaukee to give them another loss and also send a message that we are serious about taking care of them in the first round. I think we can beat either Miami or Milwaukee in a 7 game series, but I don’t want a long series. I think it would take at least 6 games to beat Miami and it would be true war! I don’t think Miami was very happy about losing last year and they know they can beat us! We haven’t played well against Milwaukee, but they are missing their center and they don’t have Wade!

GO HAWKS!!

This Washington team is going to be trouble next season. Especially if they can remain healthy and get rid of Gilbert Arenas (maybe that’s hoping for too much, if you’re a Wiz fan).

RAY:

Google to “hoops hype WIZARDS salaries” and look up the contracted players for next season. There are eight including a team option on JOSH HOWARD, a player option for QUINTON ROSS, and an 80% scale offer on RANDY FOYE. I don’t expect any of the three to be in a D.C. uniform next season for various reasons.

ARENAS will be in a WIZARDS uni for at least the next two years when he has a player option. If he exercises that he’ll have 45 million left for two years, and the WIZZIES may be able to do something. Until then, no.

SAUNDERS has to take LIVINGSTON out for a rest and HAWKS win the game. It’s been tight all the way through to now.

Did I call it or what. The game was dead even until the WIZZIES tried to play without any point guard. JAMES SINGLETON has an expiring this season and he would be a great pickup.
