So the Hawks can clinch a playoff berth with a victory against the Spurs tonight. Before you say “So what?” remember from whence the Hawks came.
“It wasn’t even pro basketball,” J.J. said of his early days with the Hawks.
Clearly the Hawks have higher aspirations than just making the playoffs. Still, making it official means something.
“It definitely does,” Josh Smith said. “When you go from the bottom up you appreciate the moments of winning.”
“That’s what makes it so special,” J.J. said, “knowing what you had to go through to get to this point.”
“It would be fantastic,” Woody said of clinching tonight. “It’s what we all push for. The first three years we wasn’t playing for nothing. Well, I can’t say that third year–we had a legit shot to make it but we had a lot of injuries. We finally made it in the fourth year, and now here we are.”
Then there is Jamal Crawford, whose losing goes back even further than the Hawks. Jamal asked Bibby how long he was in the league before he made the playoffs.
“Three,” Bibby said.
“Imagine 10,” Jamal said.
Jamal said he “always had faith” he’d make the postseason one day, if only because each season is a fresh start. He thought he had a chance in 2004-05 with the Knicks but they faltered in the final three months of the season and Crawford struggled with injuries. He also thought it might happen in 2006-07 but the Knicks were eliminated in the final week of the season.
Now (unless he’s really cursed or something) Jamal will finally make it.
“I’m going to reflect but not celebrate,” he said. “It’s been a long time coming.”
– I took a look at East teams Nos. 5 through 8 for my Sunday notes and briefly examined why the Hawks may or may not want to face each opponent.
Smoove said he’s not doing the same because those teams are closely bunched in the standings. If the Hawks remain fourth behind Boston (which would get the tiebreak over the Hawks due to winning the Atlantic Division) it’s looking like they’d get Milwaukee in the first round. If they finish third and the Bucks stay hot, it could be Miami, Charlotte or Toronto.
“It’s so crazy down at five through eight, you don’t know who you are going to play,” he said. “So we’ll just see how it plays out. Everybody is right behind each other.”
– I also wrote a story about the Hawks raising premium season ticket prices by nearly 50 percent next year. Today I got the following email and it made me think back to this post from hawksdawgs at Peachtree Hoops.
Interesting article on the Hawks attendance. I want to tell you why I think they can’t draw with a decent team. First many people, like me, who can afford to go live north of the city and I went to a recent Hawks game with Cleveland and it took me over an hour to drive from Johns Creek. Traffic was horrible that time of day. Marta is no better. The trains don’t run often enough, you have to change trains and they are always dirty and crowded. And to top it all off , I went to a basketball game and a Rap concert broke out. Every time out, half time and in between all I heard was rap. And they even introduced all the Atl Rappers sitting in their prime seats during one timeout. Never Again. Horrible traffic and they cater to the Rap crowd. They can have it.
I won’t respond to the bulk of his comments, but I feel I must defend Marta. I ride it all the time because I hate driving and I’ve found it to be safe, reliable and clean. I’m still trying to figure out why some people in the city hate on it so much.
– Remember, the game is at 8 tonight. Apparently some fans missed the numerous notices from the Hawks about the time change for the Feb. 26 game vs. Dallas.

I wonder if the gentlemen that complained about getting downtown for a hawks game is equally as inconvenienced about getting to Turner Field. I’m no rap fan, but I generally go to the hawks games for the actual game.

In defense of MARTA and the Hawks games – that’s really a horribly inaccurate assessment of the Hawks game experience. Now, if it takes you an hour to drive to the game, that’s on you and your decision to live far away. As for the game experience and mass transit, as a person who has been to at least 25 games a year for the past 10 years – that’s just wholly inaccurate. MARTA is one of the cleanest, safest rides you can find in mass transit – now, it doesn’t get a lot of places, so I can certainly understand how you can use access as a reason to complain about MARTA, but not once you get to the station.
As for the game, about the only music they don’t play is country. Pop, Rock, R&B, and Hip Hop are all played at those games. Now, it depends on what game you come to that determines what you’ll hear, but to say it’s catered would be an exaggeration – if it’s not someone’s speed, ok, but my mom doesn’t like rap and it’s not keeping her from going to the HAWKS game. Now, that said (and I’ll let other NBA beat writers chime in), but if you’ve been to any NBA game in ANY city – hip hop is played. It was in the games I’ve attended in Utah, Minnesota, etc and that doesn’t keep those gyms from being full. Same for college games in some of the most remote towns (read: not urban) and they aren’t not showing up. So, that’s not a reason people don’t come to games. No reason to make up reasons – bottom line, the economy, the fact that Atlanta is a city of transplants from cities with strong NBA roots, and years of losing have way more to do with things than MARTA and hip hop.

Hey all you Woodson haters stop taking shots at him the guy deserves a new contract and i’ll tell you why: year 1 we didnt win even 20 games and look at what he has brought us almost 50 wins 4 years later. Its not easy to get to 40 wins in this league for 2 consecutive years and he has made the hawks from sucky to a good contender today. And by the way what good coaches are there in the market next year that you think will make the hawks better? Cause Phil Jackson is gonna retire next year and most non elite nba coaches suck and all the elite teams have their coaches locked in long term.

MC- sounds like that fan hates rap music and the crowd it plays too. Secondly, why move 40 miles from the city then complain about commuting to the city? And tell me what city transit is spotless. Its ok, I’ll wait. (katt williams)
As far as the hawks, this team will struggle with the spurs tonight. They have 2 penetrating guards… can’t hide bibby. Teague should play more this game. His speed should help the switching “D” woodson likes to play. Hopefully woodson coaches the flow of the game not the players he wants to play. if the bench is playing well they let them play.(ride that horse)
As far as playoffs, unless woodson changes his coaching method ORL is not the team we want to play. Bos or Cle is the better match up

Uh, MARTA sucks and it’s nearly the worst public transit of any major city. You can go north-south and east-west on TWO FRICKIN RAILS. If your destination and start point don’t lie on a station, good luck playing frogger to get to your destination. Atlanta leaders don’t care because the city is built around the automobile. Apparently, having some of the longest commutes and worst air quality in the country aren’t motivation enough to improve the public transit. City council needs to wake up.

I wonder if folks realize that if the Hawks fire Woody after all these years of steady improvement and bringing them to the upper bracket of the playoffs that few top level coaches would want the job because they would think that it’s a bad situation? The best that you would get would be another Woody (a hot assistant looking to be a head coach) or a retread. At least let the guy fail first.
One day I’m going to check a Lakers board to see if people criticize Phil Jackson.

As for MARTA, it used to be one of the best transit systems but has suffered because of a lack of support from the surrounding counties and the state. If the surrounding counties had joined it rather than creating their own bus services the whole region would be better off.

It used to be an award winning transit system. And as far as only going east west and north south, remember that is more than just a rail system, it’s also a bus system. The idea is that the ra takes you to the part of town you want to go to and the bus feeds you put to the surrounding neighborhoods.

I don’t agree with the fact that “music played at the game” is keeping me away from attending a Hawks game. I do live in Chattanooga, Tennessee and would love to come to every home game. I generally can only make it to a couple each year. The main reason is ticket prices. True I can pay around ten bucks in sit in the upper bowl–but I’ll be honest I would rather stay at home and watch on directv than do that. So one or two times a year I can afford the trip. But 80 bucks a seat for a family of 5 is 400 bucks not counting concessions, gas and any form of gifts. It’s just too much!!!
Still watch every game though and love the team…thanks for a great season–keep it up Hawks.

2 out of 13 metropolitan counties pay for “Atlanta’s” public transportation system and it is the largest system in the country without state funding. If you want a better public transportation system pay for it or shut the F up.
As far as MARTA not going everywhere that is a bit irrelevant with a Hawks game when the elevator pretty much runs right into the arena. No public transportation system in the world is uncrowded when leaving or arriving to a major sporting event.

As I’ve ranted in both Bradley’s and Schultz’s blogs about attendance . . . NO EXCUSES FOR YOU LIVING IN ATL.
I live right on the TN/KY border . . . and I drive 300 miles JUST to see the Hawks about 5 – 10 times a year.
People simply have to stop making excuses about why they don’t see the Hawks . . and just admit that the Hawks are NOT AN ENTERTAINMENT PRIORITY for some of you fans. Because THAT’S is what will determine what you’ll do to see this team. And I’m just going to say this. A lot of the other things are simply due to racial prejudices by some of the surburbanites.
Those of us who go to the games know that we may have to sit in traffic for a while or save up a little money to see them. That is a freakin FACT OF LIFE of being a fan.
Just stop with the dang excuses. You’re either not going to Hawk games because 1) you’re not really a fan of the team . . . 2) you’re not willing to make the Hawks an entertainment priority for you and/or your family . . . or 3) your racial prejudices keep you from going.
That’s all it is.
All of that other stuff is just pure crap. Philips will be PACKED when Kobe comes to town . . and the folks will be ON TIME too.

jgsbirds . . . what someone in your situation needs to do, is call the Hawks ticket reps. They WILL work with someone like you, who is bringing in a family from out of town. If you’re not willing to spend $400 on $80 seats . . . see what they’ll do for you, if you’re willing to spend $200 or $250. I personally sit in the 200 level seats ( normally 201 or 207 ), and those seats are great for the price they have them at ( $52 for most games ). The seats in the upper deck, especially in the 310 – 311 sections, are good seats as well ( as long as you’re not too high up ). That’s basically a TV type view of the game.
LOL . . but I bet you and your family have been to more Hawk games coming from Chatt, than some of these so-called Hawk fans who live 20 – 25 miles from the arena.
In the end, it’s all about people making the Hawks an ENTERTAINMENT PRIORITY. If folks aren’t willing to do that, they’ll always be able to come up with excuses for not attending games.

Ahem – I’ve ridden on transit systems in DC and Chicago among others
and really I don’t remember much difference.
Marta’s biggest problem is, for the life of me, why, in 45 yrs. have they not figured out how to run it to the Braves games?
NOW! I am able to afford to live south of the city. This elitist fella
talking about affording to live “wherever”, what about us folk that live in the south, west, or east. ‘OR’ are we untouchables, not worthy of being a true Hawks fan.
I am of European descent, [so is Boris Diaw, not that I'm French] and I like country music, but what has that got to do with anything.
I’ll bet the Predators [Nashville] intro country music stars, so what.
UGA alums have zero trouble getting to Dawgs games no matter where they are. Starkville, Mississippi for crying out loud!

From the previous blog,
cp,
After watching Law at Texas A & M, I was very impressed. As a senior, he won the Bob Cousy award for the best PG in college. He made big shots against big time programs (Texas, Kansas etc), so I was glad to see him get drafted by the Hawks.
He was named MVP of the pre-season or summer review, and there were some games where he looked good, and some games he looked bad. But his biggest issue was after he got injured, he just never seemed the same.
I hope he is able to turn his game around and play well when the opportunity arises, wherever that might be.
Ken S,
What I would like to see is Sund to resign Chills, and for Woody to have an open competition in camp (like they do for QBs in the NFL). If Chills outplays Marvin, then make him the starter, and Marvin the backup (or trade Marvin). If Marvin outplays Chills, then keep Chills as our backup (or trade him).
If Sund does not want Chills, or if Chills does not want to play for the Hawks, then use him in a sign and trade and bring a player in here that will contribute next season.
Our bench has played well the last 2 or 3 games, so I hope Woody will continue to play them, and I I hope they will continue to perform well. For tonight’s game, I am looking forward to seeing our offense and ball movement.
As for the playoffs, I dont want to play Charlotte or Miami. Charlotte is tough, and you know DWade will get his calls in the playoffs. Give me Milwaukee or Toronto.

Obviously this guy hasn’t been to many games because most of the music is now played on a keyboard…NO LYRICS, NO DRUMS, just pure MUSIC!…Besides, no one told him to move all the way to John’s Creek…part of the same area that wants their own county now, and wanting a nice location is not an excuse. I live in Sandy Springs inside the perimeter in a nice community and have no problems (other than the usual traffic) to get to the games. From someone who regularly takes MARTA to Hawks and Falcons games, I’ve not had unpleasant experiences with either cleanliness or timeliness. In fact we’re en route (via MARTA) to tonight’s game just after dinner. Hope you’ll join us there.
By the way, take a look at the expanse of the urban mass transit system at the link below (ALL BUILT IN LESS THAN 15 YEARS). We’ve sent the better part of the past more than 40 years here in the region spitting (via the venom of speech) at each other about where to lay tracks and how best to finance and operate the system, while in many other places in the world the venomous speech is absent and the REAL work has far outstripped ours. Of course our forte is far too often venomous speech and little action, isn’t it?

If the Hawks need money for a new PG or an improved bench, host a few raffles – I would buy tickets. A million $5 tickets for a donated BBQ grill would work. northcyde, you must be a lucky man. Not all of us can afford what you so blithely think of as commonplace.
doc offered me his tickets for the game Friday. I had to turn him down, even with free tickets, because from the mountains, it’s about $35-40 in gas, usually $10 for parking, and supper for two, even at the Food Court would be another $10-15. A beer and a water for another $10.
$65-75 and that’s with free tickets. And my current situation is such that I had to turn it down. But it totally PI$SES ME OFF that you would tell me that either I’m not a Hawks fan, or that I’m not making the game an ENTERTAINMENT PRIORITY while I have to turn down free tickets..

1) Not showing up to the games as much as the “next guy” doesn’t mean you’re not a fan, or a “bad fan.” You can watch them on tv all you want and still be a serious fan, even a rabid one. Ask Vava74 , who lives in Portugal and can’t be flying over here to be a “real fan.”
2) It is up to each individual person or family where they place their priorities on entertainment, especially when relating to what they have to spend. It’s flat out wrong to judge people on such personal decisions, period. Why? Because this is ENTERTAINMENT. Not politics, not civil/public service, not something important that heavily affects every day life, 365 days a year.
3) I have nothing to say about MARTA. When I travel 3+ hours to get to a Hawks game, I’m in my personal vehicle. Driving to and through downtown Atlanta is not a joke, but I know how to drive. I drive back home after the game, too. No whining, I know what the deal is before I leave, and plan accordingly.
4) Job and family time might just come first. If you don’t have the time or your family just doesn’t enjoy it as much as you do, then it’s ok to put them first. These aren’t excuses. They are REASONS.
Just my simple-minded opinion. If you like the Hawks, then you’re a fan. Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise. It’s freakin’ entertainment, people. Holy crap….

Anyway, speaking of the Hawks, all I can think of is Tony Parker spanking us for 42 points, with no Tim Duncan in sight.
I hope the Hawks have a chip on their shoulder, take some pride and defend homecourt.
A note on Teague:
This is a bit of a quandary. He could get some very valuable experience in this game, but I don’t know that I’d look for him to get more than 7-10 minutes of playing time. The reason being, guard play will be pivotal in this game, and the Spurs have some very smart, savvy-strong guards. Bibby will have to bring his A game, as will Jamal. JJ will be JJ, I’m not worried about that.
Teague could learn a lot, but it might be a painful experience. He has the physical tools and the basic knowledge, but defending against guys like Parker, Ginobilli, etc….requires an experienced mind. We’ll see what happens.

I use Martha anytime I make a Hawks game. The outlying surburbs have made it impossible for Martha to operate in their counties, hence it’s effect citywide is negligible, but it provides good service for Fulton county. And it is clean. Anytime I can take Martha, drops you right in Philips Plaza, or to the airport, it’s a nice break from driving.
Spurs whooped Hawks at home. Let’s see if Hawks can retailiate on their home court. Hawks have to be mentally tough to win tonight, especially since it’s on National TV.

Listening to these Woody supporters are like listening to a guy who’s happy to take his hot cousin to the prom. True, you get to take a really hot girl to the prom, but…SHE’S YOUR COUSIN!!! Like the Hawks, true they have improved every year Woody has been here, but…1) they didn’t really have anywhere to go but up, and 2) they are still suffering from the same shortcomings they did when they were irrelevant. I was an avid Woodson supporter in a “wait and see” mode until I realized Woody wasn’t improving in areas where his coaching deficiencies were glaring (i.e. in-game substitutions and adjustments, rookie development, adequate use of the bench, offensive game-planning). Truth be told, almost any coach in the league could have done what Woodson did with that much time and that many lottery picks at their disposal. Oklahoma City is already better than the Hawks in less time with younger players so what Woodson has done has been no great feat. Woodson supporters are just happy to have a winning team without taking into account that, with the talent and experience available to them, this team should probably be well beyond where they are if they had adequate coaching to guide them. I’ve been a fan of this team for years and I’m very happy that they are competitive and relevant, but to look at the potential and talent on this team and see how it has been wasted on Woodson coaching is a travesty. This team shouldn’t be battling Boston for the 4th best record in the east, it should be batttling Cleveland for the best record in the NBA. The window of opportunity to win an NBA Championship doesn’t remain open long for most teams and without a decent coach, that window is going to slam shut on the Hawks before most of the Woodson supporters even realize it was open.

On attending Hawks games, when I do, I park at the train station and ride Martha. But I don’t attend too many games simply because I cannot afford to. I can easily pay $10 for nosebleed tickets, but I’d rather watch from home in comfort than be that far away.
Seats I like cost $55-80. Even though I have been exemplary on my job, my pay raise has been frozen for the last 3 years and my bonus has been cut the last two, along with other benefits that average $1500 a year. I have lost more than 8 grand so far every year just before the recession started. Glad I still have job!
As a result, I have been forced to trim my budget drastically. Partying, spending bread on girls, been too nice to people, giving pan handlers money, all that is gone, along with regular attendance to Hawks games. Life as I used to know it, is temporarily on hold. Only basic needs gets serviced. All the free loaders have been kicked to the curb. If that means making me a monk, so be it.
Until I start making more money, that’s just how it is, and I’m still a rabid Hawks fan! Shout it out to the world!!!!!!!

People blame Woody, even though they know EXACTLY what is going on in this game. LOL. . it’s hilarious. They’re bigger than us, thus, our frontcourt guys are struggling.
But I guess that’s on the coach. He did see what was going on, and subbed them out a lot earlier than what he usually does. But when Horford and Smoove come back into the game, they have to simply outwork the Spurs.
In the game in January . . . Horford went 2 – 10 FG, scored only 4 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.
Smoove was better. 16 points and 14 rebounds . . . he was an unusual 8 – 12 FG, but he went 3 – 9 FG
If they continue to struggle ( especially Horford ), it’ll be interesting to see if Woody goes with Zaza a little more in this game.
But this team has to simply play better defense.

I’m not arguing the idea of having a more traditionally sized center. Never have. Back when we drafted him, I was one of the loudest ones on here talking about him being a natural PF (hey, didn’t Joakim Noah play center for the Gators?).
Just saying…you make the best with what you have. And to be honest, unless a guy fits exceptionally well…you don’t trade for a guy who isn’t as good in the pivot as Al is. Getting a “traditional” center who can start for you for the next 5-10 years ain’t easy. They don’t grow on trees, and nobody gives ‘em up without asking for everything in return…

Big Ray . . . Horford and Smith are the keys to our defense. If those guys don’t battle on the boards and deter shots, we’re going to look bad. You already know that. They aren’t responsible for guys knocking down jumpers and guards penetrating. That’s all on the guards. But there’s no denying that Horford and Smith were getting outworked on BOTH ends of the floor.
When they come back in the game, they have to play with much more energy . . . period.
Marvin has 4 rebounds . . . Smith has 2 . . . Horford has 0
That tells you that our PF and C have to pick it up.

Yes, I am aware of that. And I’m not talking about YOU. I agree that our two “bigs” are being outplayed, bar none. And they do have to pick it up.
But if you listen to some people, they aren’t just blaming Woody for global warming, a bad economy, and all else that is troublesome in the world. They also think that these two guys have to be there to cover up for the mistakes of their teammates EVERY SINGLE TIME…without getting into foul trouble.
And while I won’t blame the switching defense for everything that goes wrong, it just doesn’t help in some matchups. Like against teams such as the Spurs, who are extremely well-coached, extremely smart, and extremely disciplined.
You can outwork the Spurs, and we have to do exactly that. But it’s also a battle of wits. That might just have something to do with why we haven’t beaten them in FIVE YEARS .

Sautee . . it’s all about how and where you choose to spend your entertainment dollar . . and how committed you’re really are about seeing this team.
If going to the game is your objective, the Hawks have plenty of $20 and $30 seats in that arena. I usually don’t spend more than $60 on a ticket going to a Hawks game.
If I was a college student in ATL, and I really wanted to go to a Hawks game, I’m preparing in advance when to go. So if it’s November, and I wanted to attend a game in December, I’m saving up some money to make that happen.
That’s commitment.
If my approach about this subject is condescending . . good. It’s meant to be. People in ATL need to stop making excuses about seeing Hawk games.
If you can’t afford to go, that’s one thing. But if you can go, but come up with excuses NOT to go, that’s a totally different animal.
*************
As for the game, I LOVE the effort of Marvin Williams. With basically the entire team struggling to score, he’s really elevated his game tonight and is playing with a lot of energy and confidence.

We’ll never see the player that Billy Knight thought he was drafting, but we may yet see a guy who was one of our most consistent players in ‘07 and ‘08. That guy, I’d be glad to see. I agree. He’s also a great passer at the top of the key if he’s not telegraphing where he’s going with the pass. And there is a difference between running the point and trying to make a play.
How’s our point guard doing? I’ll say this: he’s hitting his shots.
Part of our offense depends on Smoove passing the ball. Same with JJ. We don’t have a pg who is a big assist guy.

Northcyde,
Do you recognize these words?
” You’re either not going to Hawk games because 1) you’re not really a fan of the team . . . 2) you’re not willing to make the Hawks an entertainment priority for you and/or your family . . . or 3) your racial prejudices keep you from going.”
“That’s all it is.”
“All of that other stuff is just pure crap. ”
Ok do you see any choice in there that says 4) You can’t afford it?
No, you do not. Because that would have weakened your argument. So you’ll throw those who cannot afford to go to a game under the bus as “not willing to make the Hawks a priority”. That is heinous to me. You got a lotta damn nerve.
And to be proud of being condescending to those less fortunate financially than you, is arrogant and small-minded.

Yes, I do. I think Marvin is a role player who can provide what he did the last two years: 13-14 ppg and 5-6 rpg. I used to think he had more potential, but much of it starts from the neck up, and he just doesn’t have the mentality. That, and while athletic, he’s not the kind who will ever use his body as efficiently as guys like Gerald Wallace.

Somebody must have said something to him at half-time. I wouldn’t be surprised if Woody said he was out there playing like a b**ch. In which case, that’s one of the best coaching jobs by Woody I’ve ever seen.

I actually have to agree somewhat with northcyde. Sure, there are plenty of people who can’t afford to go to Hawks games at all — these people usually can’t afford their car payment either and I don’t think northcyde is addressing them. But most of the people who come on these blogs and complain about Hawks games being so expensive choose not to buy upper level seats, insist on buying overpriced arena food and beer, and choose not to take advantage of the Hawks’ discount programs. I’ll say it again — I have never spent more than $30 on a regular season Hawks game, and mostly that’s because I park away from the arena and don’t buy arena food. And by the way, if you have any sort of ID card with a college’s name on it — even if you are not a student, and even if it’s not your name or picture — you can get seats for $15. Hawks ticket prices are very, very cheap compared to most other professional sporting events in America.

The Hawks run all kinds of promotions and offers that a single ticker buyer and families can take advantage of. The last game I attended was the Milwaukee game ( which fell on a Sunday ). That was a Kids’ Day promotion in which a child gets a free ticket for every regular ticket purchased. So while it wasn’t a big crowd there, families did take advantage of that.
And like you, I park way away from the arena . . in a $5 or $8 lot.
There are definitely ways to reduce your expenses going to a Hawks game. You simply have to make a commitment to do so.

My beef with northcyde is the attitude that you aren’t a true Hawks fan unless you do what he does. I agree that IF you live nearby, it’s possible. We live 2 hours away. And we have a hard time affording the other things beyond just the tickets. $30 you say? OK, for Mrs. Sautee and me that’s $60 not counting gas for a 4 hour trip. And we’d have to eat SOMEWHERE (usually we go early and eat at the CNN food court). Not as doable as you might think on what we make.
But does that make me less of a Hawks fan? Or anybody who can’t afford to go?

Al was a monster. Joe was solid. Marvin was huge in the first half. Jamal did his thang. Tonight (minus the 1st quarter) is the kind of effort the Hawks MUST have down the stretch & into the playoffs. Very impressed with tonights win
-7 game losing streak to San Antonio SNAPPED
-Hawks clinch a playoff spot
-Hawks tied for 3rd in the East
Big game tomorrow night in Milwaukee…

Nice win, although SA without Parker is just a 5-8 playoff team in the West.
So don’t get so excited about the win. The vast majority of wins we got against playoff teams were when they played us undermanned on at the back end of a road trip.
Anyhow, I’ll take the win and the playoffs clinched.

Wow. Marvin dominated the first and Al beasted the second half. With complimentary play from both Joe and Jamal tonight. Josh hardly factored into it and we still come out on top. Great win Hawks. Great win.

I think our young Hawks grew up tonight. You could see what the Hakws can be when all their young players reach their potential. They beat probably the best executing team in the league (that needed a win desperately) down the stretch. I’m so proud of them.

I sure hope he does. We need that from him. And Al Horford proved he can learn his lesson in a single half, instead of taking days or weeks to get it. He manned up big time.

Nah. Sure, there are times when teams are missing a key player and play significantly worse, but I don’t think tonight qualifies. I try to judge teams based on how well they play in each particular game, and I don’t think San Antonio would have played considerably better if they had Parker. They played a great game. The Hawks just played better. Can’t take credit away from the Hawks in this one.

Joe is a very unselfish player.
He doesn’t take 40 shots/game like all the other so-called ball hogging super stars.

Horford to small to play center? What planet do U live on? Al is a All-Star at the 5.
& he man handled Duncan down the stretch… Mmmh.
Where does this stuff come from?

I was really proud of Marv tonight. That said:
‘Josh’ did something exceptional mid-way through the 4th.
Marv had not scored yet in the 4th
[as Nique later said, had not touched it].
(Jamal & Joe had taken almost all the 1st attempts in the 4th)
Josh with the ball, waved off Jamal, sought out Marv & fed him
for an open jumper. It’s little things like that,
people don’t notice, that seperates a player from ‘good’ player
into a ‘winner’. JOSH has become a winner! Great Teammate! He gets it.
Whoever questioned the young man’s basketball IQ?
I was really proud of Josh tonight.

I love when Hubie calls our games. He has so much insight and knowledge…It was a great game and a great win. Cant really complain about anything other than the sluggish start. I don’t understand why the Hawks come out so flat against good teams. Hopefully they fix this issue in time for the playoffs. I don’t think you want to extend a lot of energy in a 7 game series trying to come back from large deficits all the time. They have to come out with better energy. Once again great win.

I think the reason that the Hawks come out flat is the late arriving crowds. They are a young team that feeds off the energy of the crowd. Fans need to start getting to the games on time.

I’m tired of hearing that U are tired of hearing nimbers? There is a MUTE button on all remote controls.
So, why not step up your game and use that feature. Or do what Mike Tyson said, “Turn your station.”. -problem solved.

Great win for the Hawks!!!!!!! Way to play big down the stretch Big Al. Total team effort balanced scoring grea energy beyond the fourth quarter. Wa to hang tough Josh way to takeover when we needed you to Jamal Crawford. Joe Johnson you know you just the man enough said. Bibby hit som nice shots. And the man of the night Marvin Wiliams. If we get at least have of that every night the sky i the limit. Go Hawks!!!!!!!!! The A Town is behind you.

Some of you are saying that the Hawks have clinched a playoff spot. Chicago is in ninth place in the standings and have lost 37 games. The Hawks have 13 games left and have lost 24 games. If the Hawks lose every game remaining and the Bulls win every game then each team will have 37 wins. I do not know what the tie breaker between the two teams is. I do know that ESPN is not showing that the Hawks have clinched a playoff spot. I would prefer one more Hawks win or one Chicago loss to claim that they have clinched a playoff spot. (Or to have someone who knows how to figure out the tie breakers out proclaim that they have clinched the playoff spot.)

How many times have we lost to Chicago? . . once
How many times have we beaten them? . . . three times
There’s your tiebreaker right there.
And ESPN haven’t updated their standings yet. We have 45 wins, not 44.

So, what
I guess so What knows his round-ball! Statement made in the first half when horford was acting like the bytch he normally is, not playing defense and freeloading rebounds, and begging for the ball when the opposing starter is out of the game. For once, he acted like a man in the paint although it was 1half of a game it proves that he is capable if he gets off his sorry azzzse. Good insight
