Hawks at Warriors, AKA My Weird Woody Weekend

Oakland– So on Friday before the Hawks played the Suns, Woody said this about Jason Collins and Joe Smith, two of his postseason-toughened veterans:

“When the playoffs come, they can be a big, significant part of it. I haven’t told them that, but I hope they can sense it. In the playoffs, your rotation thins and you tend to play the guys that have done it. They become more valuable in the playoffs.”

I wondered about both parts of that statement: the thinning of the postseason rotation and using those guys more. But then Woody played both Smith and Collins in the first half against the Suns and Smith played great and Collins wasn’t bad and I’m thinking, “Hey, maybe this is the start of something.”

But then of course Woody didn’t play either of those guys in the second half and in fact used no reserves other than Jamal Crawford. And while owning up to that mistake, Woody said this:

“I had to see something for myself. I condensed things last night almost like it was a playoff game, when your backs are against the wall and you have to have one. I blew out six guys trying to do it. I can tell you it won’t happen again.”

It was all very confusing for me. So I’m looking for some clarity from this game.

– Very interesting development in the Hawks’ Ilgauskas watch. Mark Heisler of the LA Times on Twitter: “Source says NBA has told other teams it won’t let Z go back to Cavs. May be woofing with no rule against it, maybe not.”

And this: NBA stopped just one now-common trade-buyout-re-sign scam-when Stackhouse admitted it–may be working on way to make it two.”

The Washington Post reported Z’s buyout from the Wizards will come sometime this week and that his “heart is in Cleveland.” If the league breaks his heart and won’t allow a reunion (a move the players association would fight) it obviously increases the chances the Hawks can land Big Z.

Mitch Lawrence of the Daily News had this note today:

Of the top free agents for 2010, Atlanta’s Joe Johnson is the one considered the most likely to find a new team. The Hawks have heard the rumblings and already made it known that Johnson will get a first-year salary of around $17 million in a new multi-year “maximum” salary deal. He’s making $15 million now.

But a league source said the Hawks haven’t let that be known to J.J.: They haven’t negotiated with him since he turned down their extension offer before the season. And so far there have been no indications from J.J.’s camp about his intentions for free agency. At All-Star weekend, J.J. said he’d “love to” stay with the Hawks but was noncommittal about his plans.

– Former Warrior Jamal on if he tries to stick it to his old teams: “It depends on how I’m feeling.”

Well, how is he feeling tonight?

“We’ll see.”

– Talk amongst yourselves, Hawks fans.

If the players union allows Stern to get away with changing rules and loopholes on the fly, then they deserve to have their pay cut in half, their contracts turned into non-guaranteed salaries and everything else that the owners stick to them. Billy Hunter better not roll over on this one… not so close to the actual CBA negotiations.

If we had a coach who gave a sh-t about offense, we would see Josh Smith or Joe Johnson posting up on every single possession. The Hawks have such a huge size advantage that any outside jumper is a failure in this game.

From the other blog,

@ Najeh,

So far, Sund has one brilliant move on his Hawks resume, and that was trading for Crawford. Everything else is an ‘F’ or incomplete (except for Flip).

1) He signed Mo Evans for 3 years (one year too long). He is averaging 4.5 ppg in January, and is averaging 2 ppg in Feb. And we will have him next year, assuming he exercises his player option. Thats an F.

2) He gave Bibby a 3 yr deal, which means 2 more seasons after this one. So far, thats an F.

3) He signed Marvin for 5 years, $7.5 mil per. Thats an incomplete.

4) He couldnt work something out with Chills. Thats an incomplete.

5) He did sign Flip, and that was probably an A or B.

6) He resigned ZaZa, and thats an incomplete, because ZaZa has been inconsistent this year

@ MC,

I think you will experience more weird Woodys as the season goes on, even in the playoffs. Us Hawks fans are used to it.

Over the years, he would say how he has to find a way to get JJ some more rest (it never happened), he said he has to find more time for the bench (it never happened), he said we would run more last season (it never happened), and the list goes on.

Hopefully, this year will be different.

There is a situation where Teague’s presence negatively affects the Hawks. Crawford ended up banking in that 3, but Johnson passed it to Teague expecting him to shoot it, as Bibby would have. Teague’s inexperience led him to not be aware of the clock at that time.

I don’t think Joe should have passed the ball to the rook at that time. He knows the rook can’t shoot, and Joe held the ball too long. He does the same thing to Josh.

So far watching Joe, it seems like he might be trying to sabotage the game. Giving the ball to folks where he knows they can’t do anything with it, holding the ball too long on the triple, making errant cross court passes to Jamal when he knew Jamal would not catch it?…..Just saying….

I wouldn’t say beating the Warriors would establish us as a contender. The same holds true if we were to lose to the Warriors and us being pretenders.

However, what you can take away from this is that once again, the Hawks offensive attack stagnated. How do you go from a 4th quarter blowout to a grinder? We didn’t take good shots, which led to transition ball that the Warriors love to play.

Wow. 4th quarter scoring drought again?

We pounded the ball inside in the third quarter, and scored 38 pts. But now in the 4th, we’re going away from that. Why? Even Tim Legler pointed out how the Hawks have gone away from whats working, settling for more jumpers.

And I would like to hear Woody come out and say he cares about the offense too, because sometimes, our defense just isnt there.

And Bibby is 1-6 in 26 minutes with 3 pts and 4 assists. Teague is 1-3 in 10 minutes, with 4 assists.

What the Hawks need to change for them to be successful:

Fire Woodson and get Mike Fratello

Bench Bibby and start Teague

Tell Josh’s dumba.ss to never take a jumpshot again in his life and work on his freethrows.

Get rid of Marvin and Zaza for players who can actually PLAY

I’ve been slow to get on the “Fire Woody” train, but after tonight I just don’t think I can justify saying he should keep his job any longer. How many times this year have the Hawks gone stone cold in the fourth quarter? It’s happened twice in the last two games, and it happened in critical home games earlier this year against the Magic and Cavs. Couple that with all the inexcusable losses and playing down to the competition and I just am out of patience with this head coach.

The Hawks are too talented to be this inconsistent.

They needed the lesson more than they needed the win, and the lesson is this, a basketball game is composed of four quarters. The Hawks built the lead and they threw it into cruise control. They lost the momentum, they lost the game. I hope they get that formula figured out by the time the playoffs roll around because if they don’t, they’re not going to have to worry about Boston, Cleveland, or Orlando. Second, they can forget the Southeast Division. They’re not that far out, but it may as well be a distance of a thousand miles. They’re not ready. But as Orlando is inaugurated, again, as the Southeastern Division regular season champions, the Hawks need only think back to nights like tonight against teams like Golden State, New York, Chicago, Charlotte, Miami, teams that the Hawks are head and shoulders better than, but they simply couldn’t get it done. Orlando won’t win the division, Atlanta’s handed it over on a silver platter.

Sad, sad loss. Jamal was pretty good, but Joe was horrible because he swallowed the ball. Yeah, he scored 30 points, but he played selfish, held the ball too long even when he wasn’t making shots, and he certainly didn’t make em in the 4th. He was forcing it. But he still held the ball. 30 points is meaningless if your team lost.

Tonight the refereeing was awful: Crawford was fouled on the lose ball and they called out of bounds, JJ was fouled in his last drive to the hoop, … the list goes on and on.

Nonetheless, there were serious flaws in our game since the tip off. Why did we stopped going to Al and started shooting jump shots?? Why was Josh being fed with so many balls when he was struggling offensively in the 4th??

Since Curry was scoring at will against everyone and JT0 was not getting burned more than the others, why did he have to come out? He had 4 dimes with pretty good passes in transition and a very good steal. Bibby was again 1-6. What did he bring to the table in comparison? Why have him on the floor during the last stretch instead of Marvin when we being over-matched athletically?

And, we were burned again by the opponents bench, including 12 points by a rookie C coming in from the NBDL!!!!

When the Warriors started to play with 2 Centers at the same time we did not adjust and started to lose the interior battle against a bunch of scrubs. Why did Woody keep Joe Smith nailed to the bench after his good showing two days ago?

WHoa everybody needs to calm down. The Hawks have TWO glaring problems which would be Mike woodson’s coaching and Mike Bibby’s decline. This game was a wake up call. Yes Josh made an idiot play by shooting the three but lets not forget he has done way more great than bad this season. Bibby has totally lost all confidence and sure looks like he won’t be the starting pg next season. Hopefully the Hawks can find a coc=ach who can utilize his talent the right way. How bad must Teague perform in practice? If he got Bibby’s type minutes i’m sure he would put up a much better line than what Bibby did, but we all know that’s not happening with Woody aboard. Things will look better from here on out but i’m very fearful come playoff time.

How the hell do you have an 18 point lead against a team full of rookies, d-leaguers and 2nd/3rd year players that’s down to only 8 healthy players AND LOSE?!!!! To all the Woodson defenders, I’ve never seen a performance like this against a Phil Jackson, Pat Riley or Chuck Daly coached team. Hell, even an Mike Fratello coached team rarely had a meltdown this pitiful. This team fell apart because we have a coach that has no control and no offensive structure. They look like an AAU team freestyling most of the time and tonight they got OUT-freestyled by a much quicker team. I’m sorry, but this one falls more on Woody’s shoulders. The man gets too tight on the rotation as we get deeper into games. We actually saw JT0 get minutes in the 2nd half tonight, and did he disappoint?

I don’t even remember Mo Evans seeing the floor, but did we miss much? Between him and Marvin, it’s just all one big disappearing act. Now ya see me, now ya don’t…

Zaza honestly looks disappointing this season. Seriously, does he have small hands or something, because the ball is always flying somewhere. And when Zaza fouled Watson, I’m thinking, are you serious? He’s 6′0 to Zaza’s 7′0. You’ve got to be kidding me. You’ve got to try and contest that.

Nothing new. We hit yet another lull, and Woody can’t seem to solve the problem. ISO-ISO-ISO…it’s so ***************!

Please, more minutes for JT0. To those of you who think that him being on the floor jeapordizes our chances of winning, I ask you, was that true tonight? After a loss like this one, I could honestly care less about playoff talk and seedings, we’re obviously a peice short from being a serious player for a championship. What that peice needs to be is debatable, but I can already tell you that Bibby’s not the near-term/long-term solution at that spot. Lineups featuring Jamal/JJ with no PG get the Hawks in a tough spots because we resort to too much ISO. Get him out there now!

In your rush to spread blame, blame that I believe the entire team deserves (with the possible exception of Al Horford), don’t take anything away from the Warriors. They played three and a half good quarters of ball. If we get half that out of our team, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. And truthspitter, you’re being a little hard aren’t you? Zaza and Marvin will have to redeem themselves, but I don’t blame anyone but Woodson for what’s happened to Teague (who in all honesty did show flashes in transition tonight). You see all over the NBA what can happen when rookies get the chance to play, Teague hasn’t had that chance, so he’s still very much a rookie, and barring injury, heaven forbid, I don’t see any meaningful pt in his immediate future…

One more thing, Woody has to take some of the blame for what happened tonight, and he will, but Woody wasn’t out there not converting on mismatches, Woody wasn’t out there not cutting off the lane after their little spec of a point guard went down it again and again. Woody didn’t get T’d up with 34 seconds left to go in the tied game. Woody didn’t pass the ball to the person on the floor least likely to make the shot. Now, he left his reserves in too long in the 4rth quarter, and the Hawks paid for that, but let’s be clear, the players simply didn’t get it done on EITHER end of the floor in the fourth quarter. It was the Cleveland game all over again, minus the cheating at the end. I’m not saying that Woody is clean, they’re all dirty.

My first question is why didn’t Joe Smith play?
My second question is, “Where is the mental toughness”?

I’m not really worried about the loss and I’m not especially angry about the game. I watched the Wizards beat a Denver team that’s beaten Cleveland and Boston in the last few days. I think this is the kind of loss that they can really from, especially the coach. Horford was dominating the game but they stopped getting him the ball during the beginning of the 4th. The execution and body movement basically stopped too. Unless Joe Smith was hurt Woody should have known that he could play center against the Warriors and would have been just as effective as Zaza. (I really think Zaza is hurt) These kind of games happen, but I hope the lessons are learned.

All hell has broken out on the blog again. It’s why I’ve slowly drifted away from here. Most of the true fans are gone. I ask why Bone and some other even bother coming to this blog on a regular basis. If you hate this team so much, why are you here? You want the team to leave? I’m sorry a team that has been 3rd in the conference for a big part of the year is so bad to you. I wish we had Golden State fans. Did you see that crowd tonight? They have one of the worst coaches and owners in the league, yet they sell out the house on a Sunday night game. It was a trap game. I knew it was a trap game, nonetheless it hurts. The Hawks have got to buckle down and make a run at the 3rd seed. I really don’t want to play Toronto in that first round.

The schedule gets real light here soon. Other than Utah and Dallas, it’s considerable easy. We can easily go on a 9 out of 10 and get the groove back. Boston and Cleveland are struggling as well, so we need to try to gain some ground there.

Joe played very well tonight. I’m not sure where the dogging is coming from. You don’t realize how much he has to do every night to get his points. He’s not getting an easy 25 like Kobe does. He has to do it 1 on 1/2 and just do hard work. Every source from the outside of the organization repeatedly praises Joe Johnson every night for what he has done and is doing in Atlanta. It’s why he makes the All-Star team every year and gets voted most underrated by all NBA player polls/Analysts. I think he’s so underrated because of our fans. Every other team praises their all-star and does everything they can to represent them and advertise them, while we sit around and say how we need a new star and we need to trade him. Joe Johnson isn’t even close to the problem with this team.

The problem is the point guard position. It’s Mike Bibby. His confidence has absolutely flopped. He doesn’t take big shots anymore. He doesn’t provide effort and hustle like a point guard should. I’m all for playing Jeff Teague now so he’s ready for the playoffs, because Mike Bibby cannot guard Jose Calderon, or Derrick Rose, or Raymond Felton, or Jameer Nelson, or Rajon Rondo, or whatever point guard we might have to face. The only guards he can handle that will be in the playoffs is Chalmers and maybe Mo Williams. I was hoping we were the ones trying to get Nate Robinson. We could have tried to get some kind of quick guard with a little experience. If Mike Bibby keeps it up and Teague doesn’t get time, that will be the reason we are out in 5/6 games in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

Hawks fans, calm down. We have one of the youngest and best teams in the NBA in ATLANTA! The cursed basketball city. Think about 4 years ago, this time. I’m very satisfied with my team. Go out and support them, because if Joe leaves this summer and we find ourselves with Josh Smith as our star, it will be back to the 30-52 seasons. Have fun whining. I’m gonna go and get back in place at the Braves blog that I haven’t participated much in as of late. Go Hawks!

No, but Woody had HIS TEAM out there running absoultely lost when we hit the lulls. He doesn’t do much to get guys free, just tells them to get to there spot and take the handoff or an entry-pass. You’ve got to have set plays exactly for that reason. There’s nothing wrong with going through JJ at the end of games or when he’s hot, but to have the entire offensive system molded through the ISO-CONCEPT is not the best approach.

The Hawks are NOT going to be fine in the playoffs. This team has some serious flaws and there is very little, if any, coaching being done. I hope they do, hell, I hope the go away starting the next game with Utah, but reality doesn’t suggest as much. This team has improved, but they still haven’t really turned that corner and they won’t until Woodson is shown the door. It’s not the losses that frustrate us, it’s the way these guys are losing (i.e. lack of effort, no offensive gameplan, too much freestyle and Iso, etc.). This is what has the fans in an uproar, that they are losing the same way every single time and have been since Woodson has been here. The big men still put the ball on the floor too much in the post and Woodson hasn’t fixed that. The offense is too predictable and Woodson hasn’t fixed that. ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION GM RICK SUND? I’ve never seen a player decline like Bibby during a season. I still say Woodson will go to any length to keep from replacing him as his starting PG, and that includes not giving Teague a fair chance. Teague was the one that excelerated the pace and kept the Warriors on their heels when we got that 19pt lead.

Woody, as expected, immediately replaced him with Bibby and didn’t allow him on the court again. Woodson played Bibby 29mins and got 3pts, 1stl and 5ast. He played Teague 12mins and got 3pts, 1stl and 4ast.

BIBBY IS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE IN EVERY PHASE OF THE GM AS THE SEASON PROGRESSES, AND HIS DEF CAN’T GET MUCH WORSE. Playing Teague will not only improve his confidence and overall production, but the team as well. But our dumbazz HC is more concerned with his loyality to certain players rather than the overall team.

Woodson has simply stopped even trying to coach and has decided to ride the backs of 6 players into the ground down the stretch, no matter what. Next, we go into Utah having lost 6 of our last 11 gms.

If Joe Johnson is the best player on this team, he cannot allow GS to deny him the basketball at crunch time. The way the Hawks are playing right now, they won’t make it pass the first round of the playoffs. Josh Smith posted great numbers but, he made costly mistakes at the end of the game. The Hawks needs somebody to penetrate the lane and draw some fouls. That’s the problem I have with this team. At the end of games no one is willing to drive through the lane and pick up fouls, hell GS only played eight players tonight. The Hawks what a joke!!! Atlanta teams has no heart.

Y’all are funny! Seriously, go back and read the posts… quite entertaining.

Time and situation. 350+ NBA games and you don’t understand time and situation. I wonder if our coach ever took the time to teach time and situation. Probably not (right).

Thank goodness that Teague had a nice run against the league’s worse defensive team.

Horford is this team’s MVP. Dude goes to the bench (and Zaza plays next to Josh) and the offense goes into the toilet. Smith throws the same passes to Zaza that he throws to Al. Maybe Woody might want to explain that Zaza’s hands aren’t like Al’s hands, because obviously Josh hasn’t noticed that in the past 3 seasons.

All of those free throw misses came back to haunt the Hawks, huh? 2-7. Putrid.

Be careful what you ask for, because sometimes, you get a last second shot off the hands of the last person you’d want taking a 3-pointer with enough time for at least one if not two more passes. But hey, when you pass it to him, the assumption is that you want him to shoot, right? That’s why he took those long distance bombs all of these years… because his teammates set him up for failure. He’s just trying to be a good teammate and “make something happen”. Or better yet, get the guy who passed him the ball an assist.

350+ NBA games and still struggling with time and situation. Geez, maybe we need a high school coach to take over the team… as long as it’s not the coach from McEachern… because they don’t do much teaching there (or Oak Hill Academy).

So since Teague played so well against the league’s worse defensive team, surely he has earned a shot at Deron Williams, right?

Discipline, we still lack discipline and still lack that on-floor leader who can gain control of his teammates. Bibby has lost his confidence and his leadership position with the team. Al hasn;t yet stepped up to bark at guys on the floor. Joe may be getting ready to explode (finally he yelled at a ref, good for Joe). But let’s face it, most teams fall into the trap of playing Nellie ball because it is the desired way for individual players to play. And after the big 3rd quarter lead (playing Woody ball), the Hawks went right back to the playground and got schooled. Lack of discipline. Yeah, definitely a coaching issue but the coach can;t be the only voice who preaches discipline. There isn;t another elite team that doesn’t have an alpha male to shake up teammates at the appropriate time… just us. The reason we need Bibby to get back is not just because we need his 12 points/game, but because we need the swagger and leadership that he alone is capable of bringing. Woody must play him because we’re not winning without Bibby’s ability to calm this team and put guys in the right place on offense. But right now, he’s lost and the team is suffering. And no, Teague ain’t capable of leading this team anyplace good (not yet).

14 4th quarter points from a playoff team, and lost of composure from a playoff team = loss to a bad team. fortunately there are 29 games left to right this wrong. Golden State deserved and earned their win. We’ve been in more big games than they have but we lost our composure down the stretch and i ain’t talking about the tech specifically. This could be the best loss of the season cause we got 29 games left to oil this machine.

Sund doesn’t need Woody to fail before he fires him… just ask the coaches that have had back to back 50 win seasons, and been fired. Or the coaches that have won Coach of the Year one year and fired shortly later. If the coach is not the right fit, he needs to be fired. Woody hasn’t done any of those things and he still sticks around. Keeping Woody is an owner’s issue – there’s no desire to take this organization to the next level.

So on Friday before the Hawks played the Suns, Woody said this about Jason Collins and Joe Smith, two of his postseason-toughened veterans:

“When the playoffs come, they can be a big, significant part of it. I haven’t told them that, but I hope they can sense it. In the playoffs, your rotation thins and you tend to play the guys that have done it. They become more valuable in the playoffs.”

How the hell does your rotation thin but you play guys who don’t normally play? God Damnit this guy is retarded

Yet another game this team has thrown away due to lack of focus and intensity in the fourth quarter. This team really irritates me at times with their Jeckyll/Hyde play during games and Woody continues to not adjust to what the other team is doing. These next 20+ games are crucial to our future playoff positioning and if we continue with performances like the one tonight then we may find ourselves being sent home in the first round.

Kirk Hinrich is scarily similar to Bibby. He’s a little quicker than Bibby and can play a little better defense but their offensive games are almost identical. A quick, penetration point guard would be a great fit for this system and Kirk Hinrich just isn’t that.

Its easy to get angry after this game. I was thinking about what makes a championship calibre team in the NBA. The formula has been set and has been the same for most of the history of the NBA. First you need a superstar go to guy for the when the game is tight in the playoffs at the end of the game. Second you need a super side kick that would be a go to guy if he weren’t on the team with the real superstar. Third you need another great player that fits perfectly into the system. Fourth you need a great bench player that can score when the team rests the first three guys. Fifth you need a coach that knows how all of these guys fit together and doesn’t stifle their abilities.

Dynasties include a couple of superstars who aren’t selfish or the greatest player of all time.

In any event the Hawks don’t have any of these characteristics except a bench scorer in Jamal Crawford. Joe Johnson is not a Superstar. He would fit into the second guy category but he has been spoiled into thinking he is the only option at the end of the game by the coach. And on this team he may be. Who else other than Crawford do you trust to make shots in crunch time.

I think it would be interesting to see the Hawks go for D Wade and let Joe go. They still need a true center and I don’t know if there is one that would work but I say this team will frustrate in its current make up. No way they get out of the second round of the playoffs regardless of who they play. They actually could lose in the first round if they meet an up an coming team in round one. As it stands, they are not a championship calibre team and quite frankly they are probably poorly coached but even with better coaching they are short on late game ability to go very far.

Mike Bibby is done. He has been terrible since around November. Its about to be March. Teague showed more in 10 minutes than Bibby showed in 30. Once again will one of these Bibby supporters explain to me what Teague cant do with Bibby’s minutes because it ain’t much. I’m sure the kid can go 1-7 5 dimes and a few turnovers. Its time to stop making up silly excuses about him playing can cost us wins because Bibby sure isn’t showing us anything out there…. Marvin is the invisible man. Ive never seen a guy who had less impact on a game than this cat. He might score 5 points early and another 5 when the game is pretty much decided. Pachulia has been terrible this year. Mo has been so bad Woodrow went with the non talented Mario over him tonight. If this team keeps it up I wouldn’t be shocked if they fell to the 5th seed. Even if the Hawks make it to the second round they will not be there long. Woodson has done all he can for this team. Its time to start looking for a replacement for next year.

I put this lost squarely on the feet of Josh & Woody. Josh reverted to Josh of old in the 4th quarter. He had multiple turn overs & bad shot selection. No way he should have taken that 3 attempt with time left on the clock. Woody could not get us anything to break the momentum of GS; he could not even get us an ISO Joe.

This team was undersized & undermanned. We beat them up in the paint in the 3rd; can’t explain what happened in the 4th. Maybe we got rope-a-doped.

Of course, we all should have known this could happen, as this was a nationally telecast game. We always go for maximum embarassment. Out superstar will get jobbed by the marque player on the other team, a rookie Step Curry. Josh will seek the spotlight in crunch time and Marvin will totally disappear. Also, Woody would limit his bench after saying he learned his lesson from the Phoenix game.

I say we should finish 5th instead of 4th. The benefit is we will still get the same 1 round matchup. We will get a higher draft pick. Finishing 5th means Woody MAY NOT be retained. Teague confidence & career could possibly be salvaged before he goes the way of AC Law, Salim, etc. JJ will leave in free agency.

Downside we will be stuck with Marvin, ZaZa, & Bibby thanks to the good work done my Sund this past off season. Maybe Belkin will sell his 30% stake by refusing pay his share of expenses over the last 4 years.

I say we should be more concern with the teams behind us in 5th place as they could easily be in 4th. We should hope we don’t drop to 6th, because then we get Orlando, Boston, or Cleveland in the 1st round.

This gloom & doom is based on the play this team. I don’t know if they are the 4th best team in the East or the worst 4th seed team in the East???????????????

And just a thought. Since every team knows that with the game on the line that the Hawks are going to be looking to J.J. or Jamal Crawford, why not get the ball to Al Horford down low where he has been pretty good at scoring this year. Especially if he can get an open look from 15 feet or closer.

He’s making great money in a great country and probably has people kissing his feet. Even if he does come back, there’s not a great chance it will be with us. I see him going to an elite team like Cavs and becoming a valuable role player. I really wish he would come back though. And u people talk about coaching and woody, i bet yall couldnt coach this team to 5 wins. We need more real fans!! The problem for the hawks to me is that we dont have enough set plays, woody plays the same rotation regardless if ur hot or cold.. Bibby is a liabily on defense but he is really needed on offense, randolph morris should be used over zaza! Morris just needs a chance and he will prove himself, joe needs sum more breaks down this stretch and thats y woody should use his bench more, and the iso-joes are great, if im not mistaken kobe does iso ALOT at chrunch times but i guess since hes kobe thats cool but its not.. To Just Chill and others who can’t understand why some of us are ticked……We ARE true Hawk fans….We really are…..and we want these guys to succeed. But you cannot lose an almost 20-point lead LIKE THAT and still have respect. The LIKE THAT involves the record of the other team, the complete turnaround in the last two quarters, the seeming lack of will and brains, absence of hustle and pride, losing the ball, failure to finish shots, no defense….I can’t even write this down, but the overall feeling I have is overwhelmingly BAD right now and this nightmare comes from watching a potentially great team go to pieces and by going to pieces I mean just turn into totally dysfunctional clowns in a totally embarrassing way. I mean you can lose….but not LIKE THAT!.

This is really not the time to sit back and think, “You can’t win them all, we’ll do better tomorrow, stop sweating it,” Based on this game, I see Joe Johnson gone and the fans GONE and Josh and Jamal and Al all GONE. I see the entire team moving soon. It stems from this feeling that there is something horribly dysfunctional and sick about the Hawks’ very soul, and tonight it was laid bare for everyone to see. It doesn’t matter they can jump and shoot and rebound and block shots and go 15 minutes without a turnover, score 35 points a quarter….it doesn’t matter….

The one thing that would keep my interest alive at this point is if the Hawks actually did something that showed they had any brains at all…

FIRE WOODSON TONIGHT. (And no, they ain’t hiring Fratello….).

Now, where’s Sund’s address……

Question: did you see Crawford go flying when he got a two-handed shove just before his technical ? I did. How come nobody else did?

Comment…Hawks will beat Utah easily, just to drive us even more crazy. But I’m ready for this….I quit. After 50 years, NO MORE Hawks fan. Bye.

And to JustChillFans, teams that give a damn about their fans do not put this type of product out for us to cheer for. BirdDawg

GA Bulldawg, I agree with you that fan loyalty is important. And to that end, I can’t stand any of those teams you mentioned. But at the same time, you have to respect them for putting a consistent winning product on the floor, field, etc. If the Hawks were losing a game here or there due to other teams playing better or just not getting some breaks, that would be understandable. It is just this one regular season game, it’s the fact that they have made the same mistakes for the last six years and no one seems to be able to correct it. If they were a team of mediocre talent but trying their best, you applaud them for their heart and gutsy play (much like for the Falcons this year). But this team has elite level talent and consistently under-achieves and finds ways to beat themselves resulting in the current frustration of the fan base. Anyone watching can see this team has cost themselves about 3-5 wins this year, the coach at least another 5-7. I will always be a Hawks fan, have been since the days of Tree Rollins and Doc Rivers (yes he was the Hawks point guard before he was the Celtics’ coach :) ) but I would like to see my and every other true fans loyalty rewarded with some consistently good basketball or at the very least some heart, guts and will. Let the other teams beat them, not the coach or players.
