Hawks at Magic, AKA They Can Get Four Ws in One

Orlando– If the Hawks beat the Magic tonight at Pyramid Scheme Arena, then a) they finally figured out Orlando b) Woody coaches the East All-Stars, c) the Hawks extend their lead over the Magic in the Southeast Division to 1.5 games, and d) they stay in front of Boston for No. 2 in the East through the weekend. Lose, and none of those things happen.

So while finishing this week 2-2 would be good, 3-1 means some national shine. And, as Hawks PR Man Arthur Triche notes, it means Woody will be forced to come up with a story to explain his missing eyebrows to the hundreds of reporters who will ask him about them for four straight days on All-Star weekend.

– The smallish Hawks might get a large dose of the Magic lineup featuring both Dwight Howard and Marc

in Gortat that was effective against the Celtics Thursday night. Then again, maybe not. Stan Van Gundy seems to think the lineup is good for matching up with bigger teams, but maybe he’ll see if he can use it to dictate to a smaller opponent.

– Van Gundy is one of the league’s unfiltered coaches. He speaks his mind and tends not to care who takes offense (though, after the way Shaq cracked back on him last season, perhaps sometimes he should care). And so even when he praises the Hawks for their season thus far, he does it like this:

“They’re a very talented team. Their first eight or nine guys are outstanding, and they’ve played the entire year injury-free. So, they’re one of the few teams that hasn’t had to make any adjustments. They get the same eight or nine guys out there every single night. They’ve been together for a long time. They’ve had no injuries this year. It’s rolling along. That has a lot to do with it. They’re a good team, and they’ve faced no adversity whatsoever.”

The Orlando Sentinel’s Josh Robbins says Van Gundy’s tone wasn’t jerky when he said that, he was just being matter-of-fact. I covered Van Gundy, so I know what Robbins means. Nothing Van Gundy said isn’t true (except maybe the “no adversity whatsoever” part) but it seems to me Van Gundy managed to get his digs in, too. He’s never boring, at least.

Al returns to Gatorland and gets some love.

– Talk amongst yourselves, Hawks fans.

Freaking Mo West on a 10-day contract gets more playing time than the Hawks 1st round draft pick…

Mario West BLOWS.
Major problem with Woody giving him playing time. Put your #1 draft pick in (Teague) and grow the team!
West aint gonna help this team at all.

The ball shouldve been in Crawfords hands the moment we saw that no one could stay in front of him in the first half .Sometimes a certain strategy not called iso -joe works against other teams and we shouldnt be afraid to use it .

Crawford is the POINT GUARD and West is the off guard unless Teague can play and defend shooting guards this move by Woody is a no brainer

No offense, but hustle is great…. in college. This is the Damn NBA and you gotta bring more to the table than hustle.

It’s either a sad statement that M. West can get a 10-day contract (or 2) because he hustle’s… or that there is no other talent that can help this team… like a consistent jump shooter off the bench (besides Crawford). Think about it, anytime Mo Evens scores points, the Hawks blow out their opponent. Not a coincident.

I don’t kno why this team gives us so much trouble…we’re long & athletic enough to match up with anybody, but for some reason they seem to play their best against us. It’s disheartening to watch

Why is it that out of the big 4 in the East, the Hawks get the least amount of calls, and its not even close.

Whats up with that?

Well, I’m off.

We started well and then wilted. The refs had an impact on the first half cutting our lead from 10 to zero.

Anyone taping the game can check that.

We also stopped executing the defense correctly and AGAIN left too many wide open 3 pointers.

Hawks are not ready yet!! They are a heartless, gutless, and weak team. I do not give a dam about D Howard. Put his ass on the GROUND. He is over powering the hawks. Thus I believe that they need a trade if they want to spark pug this team in the second half of the season. If the hawks sit on their hands, then you will see what they really think about their chances in the playoff. I think that the hawks will lost in the second round unless they make a impact trade. This is really sad because I think that another big that can rebound and block shots and this team can win the east. I also believe that they may have to get another pg if they continue to not play Teague. I am sorry atl fans but this team is not ready for the prime time yet!!
