Hawks at Spurs, AKA Messin’ With Texas

San Antonio– It’s been interesting to see perceptions of the Hawks in Western Conference outposts Houston and San Antonio. Both teams were scuffling and coming off worrisome efforts and both considered the Hawks a threat to continue their slides.

Rockets coach Rick Adelman was matter-of-fact in talking up the Hawks like they are an elite team. He worried about their ability to score one-on-one and their open-court prowess. Then the Hawks used their one-on-one scoring ability and open-court prowess to beat his team. Afterward, Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler, a Rockets TV analyst, said of the Hawks: “They are a team that has it all, and they proved it tonight.”

Pop's Spurs falling off?

Pop's Spurs falling off?

Now the Hawks are in San Antonio, where Spurs guard Tony Parker tells the San Antonio Express-News (last item): “They’re good — long and athletic. A little bit like the Bulls.” Normally, that might be taken as a backhanded slap since the Bulls are eight games behind the Hawks in the East, but Chicago just beat the Spurs on Monday.

It was the third straight home loss for the Spurs, and that hadn’t happened since 1996-97 (wow). Though coach Gregg Popovich has never been one to put too much stock in the ebbs and flows of regular season, viewing it as a process to get ready for the playoffs, the Spurs sound desperate for a victory. Said Spurs guard Roger Mason Jr.: “This is all a process for the end of the year, and we understand that. At the same time, you know, we’re trying to win games.”

Are the Spurs really in trouble? Woody glanced up at those championship banners inside the AT&T Center and said he’s not buying it: “They are still one of the top teams in the West. Any time ‘Pop’ puts a team on the floor, they are going to compete. You don’t hang four banners in here without doing that.”

– The Hawks will see San Antonio’s first three-game losing streak since ‘96-’97 and raise them 11 straight losses at San Antonio. The Hawks last won here on Feb. 15, 1997. And they haven’t swept all three Texas teams on the road since 1990-91. The possibility of doing so tonight has Big Ray feelin’ good

“Will they pull it off, or will we be singing ‘Two out of three ain’t bad….’? Either way, if you don’t think this is yet another sign of a team that is significantly better than it was last year, then consider the fact that the Hawks didn’t win a single one of these three daunting road games last season. How’s that for perspective?”

– Never mind San Antonio’s struggles. The Hawks will have to be better tonight than they were at Houston Monday night. Hoopinion says (in that very interesting, statistical kind of way) that the Hawks beat the Rockets with just an OK effort:

“Despite the niggling worries, it speaks to this team’s ability that they can go on the road, face a perfectly average team, and win comfortably while playing about 12 minutes of really good basketball.”

– Woody sees winning tough road games as another stage of growth for his team. He said the one constant has to be defensive effort: “Some games on the road you shoot lights out. But you’ve got to have a defensive mentality to win on the road. All elite teams win on the road. Cleveland. The Lakers. Boston. Orlando. It’s not easy.”

– Two days later, and no one with the Hawks seems to know the real story behind Woody’s missing eyebrows. And the accusations and counter-accusations are flying, with everyone seeming to think the person pressing them for info really knows the truth and isn’t saying.

Woody’s still not talking: “To be honest, I don’t know what happened.” And he’s letting them grow back even if the Hawks keep winning.

“It’s growing now as we speak. What am I going to do? Just let it grow.”

After seeing two days’ growth, I’d guess Woody has a good three weeks before they really come back.

There’s a cattle convention in town. Driving through downtown on the way to the AT & T Center for shootaround, I saw some cowboys with cattle on the sidewalk. I was trippin’ about this. Everyone else just kind of went about their business.

No point to that tidbit, really, just trying to wrap my head around it.

– Talk amongst yourselves, Hawks fans.

DEFENSE……………………………DEFENSE…………………………….Is NOT mention in Da Same breath with MIKE BIBBY. MIKE hasn’t played DEFENSE since his second year in DA NBA. ZaZa is DEAD WEIGHT on this team. He brings nothing POSITIVE to this team.

If they do get Amare I think the Heat could win the east too. Wade + Amare in the playoffs is a problem. And they can mos def beat the hawks.

I didn’t see the game, but it’s interesting to me to see that even if you see the beast coming you can’t stop him. Parker is a handful for everyone, so Bibby getting destroyed is no surprise. Duncan going to work on Horford is not surprise enter, a healthy Duncan does that to everyone also. The SPURS have a lot of pride, so I expected them to take care of their business. The HAWKS needed to play a near prefect game to win tonight and obviously they didn’t. I hope that they can get some rest tomorrow and get ready for another beast coming is Friday. BOSTON definitely doesn’t want to lose 4 in row to us.

GO HAWKS!!!

(I”LL JUST SAY THIS)IF THE HAWKS WOULD HAVE THE HEART TO MAKE THE TRADE FOR EITHER MARCUS CAMBY WHO IS GOING TO GIVE U 10 TO 15 PIONTS A GAME AND 10 TO 20 REBS. AND WE ALL KNOW WHAT HE CAN DO ON D.I’ll EVEN TAKE BRANDON HAYWOOD FROM THE WIZARDS WHO GIVE U 10 AND 10 WITH GOOD D. I SAY THIS BECASE WE NEED A SEVENFOOTER SO WE CAN MOVE AL TO WHERE HE NEED TO BE AT THE POWER JOSH AT SMALL MARVIN OFF THE BENCH WITCH WOULD MAKE EVEN STROGER. THIS WOULD GIVE US SOME MUCH NEEDED SIZE. I PROMISE YOU”LL WE WILL TAKE THE EAST.

The reason we did not see Collins tonight because he is wearing a suit but for some reason Mario is on the active roster. That seriously makes no sense to me. The one night we needed some size we opted to have it sit in a suit….Its time to replace Nique. I love all the things he did in a Hawks uniform but listening to him call a game is just pain to my ears. Like ray suggested last year, mute his mic but let him think its still on……Mo Evans has been terrible this year and outside of a nice stretch last season he was pretty bad then too….O’Brien I would love to get Camby too but the Clippers said if they continue to play well they wont trade him so I don’t know about that option. Josh Boone is available from the Nets. His contract is only 2 million. He can play pf and c. We might need to look into that. We don’t really have a defensive big coming off the bench and we could use one…. I hope they come out with better energy Friday.

really frustrating last nite, but,i expected this..
i expected this in the last game as well with houston but i was totally wrong and they did what i always have said should be the main plan..

sub starting 5 for 5 bench players, and allow the starters to rest and blow out the other team come 3rd quarter..and match up our deficiencies, wit players off the bench..
example:match up randmo against duncan, since collins was in street clothes..putting mario or teague in more against tony parker..

Hey Al Horford –

I could care less about 7 stitches in a thumb? KOBE plays with a broke finger and Brett Farve is 185 years old…he plays with sprained ankles and broken arms. These wussies are making stupid money to play a silly game & we bloggers can only dream about an opportunity like that.

Take your 7 stitches…stick them in your ear and play ball man! No excuses!
“This is the NBA man.” Scarface took what? – 100 bullets and was still kicking that azz~!

Nuff Said! Just Win Baby!

Hey FRESH!

Glad you like my humor. I don’t post very often – my business is very demanding these days.
But I like to check in on here from time to time to see what – Big Ray, Doc, Ken, Najeh, Rich Brave and ‘Nem are up to.

This blog can really get bogged down with drama and silly people saying silly stuff…So my Theoretic-ally and Realistic-ally humor was just another attempt at making you guys laugh and just trying to keep it light. Life is way too short to be so serious, especially about some lucky guys playing such a silly game.

For me…it’s all just ENTERTAINMENT! Have fun and pay your bills I say! Whether these TEAMS win or lose…They are all Millionaires!

Anyway, have some fun on here! But more importantly…lets take care of our FAMILIES! Now, that’s REEL!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey StrongHawk..

What has Marcus Camby ever won? Oh, my bad he took a bribe for a gold chained necklace when he was in college.

Marcus Camby is not gonna stop: SHAQ, Duncan, Dwight Howard, Dereck Lee, – or anyone else for that matter. We need a shot-blocker in that post with size and girth to win a championship….Unless, you got MJ, KOBE, LebRon, Dwayne Wade, or Carmello? Your’e gonna need a CENTER! with SIZE & SKILLZ.

Sorry Fellas, take it from a woman…SIZE does Matter!!!!! lol!
