Wizards-Hawks thread

Greetings, all-

Thanks for all the love. It really means a lot to have passed muster with you guys. Just a couple notes, and we’ll get to the game.

1) Mario West is going to dress tonight. Zaza Pachulia is at home with flu symptoms, so Mike Woodson won’t have to sit anyone to see what “Greasy,” as he’s known, can do. As you can imagine, West was pretty fired up about getting an opportunity.

2) Mo Evans may not play. His wife is delivering their first child. Woodson didn’t know where things stood when we talked to him, around 5:40.

3) I asked Woodson about playing zone against the Celtics, particularly how much they’ve played it in the past and this year.

“We played (some) zone last year. Probably the year before we played zone a lot. It’s kind of shrunk over the last couple years but two years ago, we played zone a lot. That won us a lot of games. Last year, we played it some. Mainly, we tried to play it in back-to-back games where you kind of, instead of chasing guys a lot, it kind of bought us some time to keep guys strong towards the end of the game. But against the Celtics, our coaches suggested zone and we went with it. It was nice to see because it kind of caught them a little off guard.”

“We’ve played zone a few times this season.”

Is there a particular reason you haven’t used it as much?

“It’s a long season. As the season wears on, we’ll probably start playing some more of it when we get time to practice and really work at it. It’’s easy to do with the guys that have been here, our starters, because they know it. But we did it with Jamal (Crawford) on the floor the other night, and it was pretty good.”

As requested, UGA’s Travis Leslie’s dunk against Kentucky.

The Wiz are giving the Hawks the jumpshots and they are not making them… They need to drive the ball to the basket.

Stupid and lazy = Josh Smith. The Hawks should have spent all that dough on a player with a brain.

Can’t believe we retained Thello over Mario this past offseason. Probably cost us 2 wins not having Mario’s tenacious D.

Good job Sund!

Actually, the Mario signing was dumb.

According to Fundamentals, one of the self-proclaimed geniuses here, we should’ve signed a Big to a 10-day contract instead of Mario!!!

I can’t believe the Hawks kept a guy with upside and talent over a guy that shouldn’t even be sniffing the NBA, but has really high energy mistimed rebound leaps. Good job, Sund.

Heh….short bus crew is on their thing tonight, I see. Imitation…it’s the most sincere form of flattery.

Anyway,

Very nice game by Marvin Williams. Josh nearly got a triple double. It would be a quadruple double if you count the number of whines after a foul call as a statistic. Despite his scoring issues, he had a hell of an effect on the game.

Joe did his thing, and Jamal shined right along with him. Big Al held his own despite foul trouble and limited touches. It was great to see Mario back in the fold and doing his thing.

Teague looked pretty good for the most part. I won’t say anything else, as it tends to start a pi$$ing match about the usual subject….

Wizards challenged, Hawks had some lapses in judgement but put them away. I’ll take that “W.”

Once again the Hawks benefit from being in an Eastern Conf where being .500 right now gets you the #5 seed.

This game was pathetic, it proved and showed nothing positive….and only that we still need alot more work in many areas before we can think about going deep in the playoffs. Who cares about piling up wins against these sorry bottm half east teams if we look pathetic doing it.

We beat Washington w/o Gilbert..a Washington team that was garbage even with him!!!…. Hoo-Ray!!!

These Hawks actually DO remind me of the ‘04 Pistons in a lot of ways. Depending on who’s feeling it and who has the focus, they adjust to each other on the floor and find a way to get it done.

Of course, they’ll need to make adjustments to other teams come playoff time. And that can’t be left up to the players…
