Wizards-Hawks thread

Greetings, all-

Thanks for all the love. It really means a lot to have passed muster with you guys. Just a couple notes, and we’ll get to the game.

1) Mario West is going to dress tonight. Zaza Pachulia is at home with flu symptoms, so Mike Woodson won’t have to sit anyone to see what “Greasy,” as he’s known, can do. As you can imagine, West was pretty fired up about getting an opportunity.

2) Mo Evans may not play. His wife is delivering their first child. Woodson didn’t know where things stood when we talked to him, around 5:40.

3) I asked Woodson about playing zone against the Celtics, particularly how much they’ve played it in the past and this year.

“We played (some) zone last year. Probably the year before we played zone a lot. It’s kind of shrunk over the last couple years but two years ago, we played zone a lot. That won us a lot of games. Last year, we played it some. Mainly, we tried to play it in back-to-back games where you kind of, instead of chasing guys a lot, it kind of bought us some time to keep guys strong towards the end of the game. But against the Celtics, our coaches suggested zone and we went with it. It was nice to see because it kind of caught them a little off guard.”

“We’ve played zone a few times this season.”

Is there a particular reason you haven’t used it as much?

“It’s a long season. As the season wears on, we’ll probably start playing some more of it when we get time to practice and really work at it. It’’s easy to do with the guys that have been here, our starters, because they know it. But we did it with Jamal (Crawford) on the floor the other night, and it was pretty good.”

As requested, UGA’s Travis Leslie’s dunk against Kentucky.

Mario West check in the game before Teague. And he is on a 10 day contract. I’m not on the fire Woody bandwagon but at take him out back and ….

Mario brought exactly the kinda energy that we need to the game . We need to get better control of our tempo early in games .Im sorry but Bibb is done as a starter he just cant maintain the pace we needs to play at and Teague is not ready yet .

Four things I notice right off the bat.

One, I didn’t know I’d miss Mario this much.

Two, Marvin is playing his butt off. Whoever slipped the RedBull in his gatorade needs to do it again.

Three, the ball movement and off-ball movement has been pretty nice.

Four, Woody has gone to the bench early, despite not having a big lead. The bench has responded by extending the lead.

Teague put his hands up like… dang Jamal you not going to pass me the ball… im wide open…

He’s not going to get away with that very often, particularly against the better players in the league, but NICE block by Jeff Teague.

All the same kiddo, learn to stay in front of your man.

Where has Teague been all year when those other midgets PGs was killing the Hawks… Huh, on the bench!!!

Teague is clearly a player who needs a couple minutes to warm up. But once he gets his motor running…

If only Woodson would use his bench (namely Teague) like this against the upper echelon teams. Scrimmaging against the Wizards won’t necessarily prep them for the playoffs. Would be nice to see them get some burn against the Celts, Cavs, Magic, etc. While Joe Smith & other vets off the bench have been in the league long enough to be able to turn it on come playoff time, if Teague is not used in pressure situations it does us no good.

Teague makes a series of good plays and what does Woody do, take him out of the game…. Good grief, how does he expect this kid to get experience. What does he gain by putting Bibby back in the game? Bibby is a vet with plenty of game mins under his belt. This would have been a good opportunity for Teague to get extend mins in a game thats still competitive against the other team starters….

Thanks to his teammates, Joe has had some nice looks lately.

Josh Smith’s passes have looked rather crisp. Thank goodness, because his shots have sucked…

Melvin: Amen to that. We must have been thinking & typing virtually the same thing. Not sure if I’d give him the bulk of the minutes just because it’s the Wizards, but I agree that he’s got way too short a leash on Teague.

Joe doesn’t sell fouls well at all. He gets people up in the air, gets the contact, but he doesn’t let the contact show in his follow-through.

Joe Smith is our most effective post player on offense.

As soon as Teague starts showing what he can do on both ends of the court, Woodson takes him out, yet leaves MWest in, and reinserts his beloved MBibby. Of course, West isn’t a threat to Bibby’s starting position. As soon as Bibby comes back in, the DEF drops off and the Wizards make a comeback.

Some of the BS crap Woodson does makes me sick. He doesn’t need to be the HC of this team.

Teague was matched up against Boykins and when Boykins left he wasnt gonna leave Teague matched up against the starter.

Also Im hard on Bibs but if hes starting you cant bench him like that because thats what not bringing him back in means .

Of course Woodson brings in Crawford at PG instead of Teague. Same old, same old. Game gets tight, so does his rotation. I guess Teague will get back in if the Hawks turn it into a blowout again.
