Hawks-Knicks thread

Happy New Year, Hawks fans!

Hope everyone made it back safe and sound to their beds last night. A couple quick things about Cleveland. One, the protest has been sent. If I understand things correctly, Cleveland now has five days to submit what would essentially be their own paperwork.

Also, in some way, this may work to the Hawks’ advantage. Obviously, the best result would be for the Hawks to have won, but now they’ve got a pretty fair-sized chip on their shoulder because of all this, plus the knowledge that they know they can play with Cleveland.

And, to answer JeJe from the previous blog, with the shot clock at 12, I said that would constitute an 8-second violation because if the clock read 12, that would be a violation because that would have meant, normally, it had taken the Hawks 12 seconds to get over the halfcourt line.

On to game #32, against New York.

I’ll give you some stuff from Mike Woodson’s pre-game and Thursday, and we’ll let it roll.

On New York:

They’re playing better because they’re scoring the ball. Again they like to go up and down the floor with the ball. They run a bunch of pick and rolls. We’ve got to be better. You look at the score there (he had the last Hawks-Knicks gaem up on his TV and it was stopped with the Hawks up 13-2), we came out, we were ready to play and we went into the tank in terms of our defense. They got hot. Smoove didn’t help matters by getting kicked out of the game and we still had  shots down the stretch (to win). We’ve got to bottle up how we’ve been playing defensively in these last two games, in Cleveland and the game here against Cleveland. The second half of that Cleveland game here was good defensively and we were pretty good the other night defensively in terms of being able to control tempo and do the things we set out to do.

On Mike Bibby (who is three assists shy of 5,000):

That’s great. Couldn’t be more proud or happier for a guy. Mike has been a steady point guard in our league. You look at all the great point guards that have played, he might not be at the very top, but people know who Mike Bibby is and what he’s contributed to our league.

If he’s become more of a coach than player:

I didn’t know him in his young days but since we’ve had him, I tell you, we wouldn’t be in the position we’re in without Mike Bibby.

How come these days when Hawks play on NBATV, the games get censored? Thank God for Fox South!

Nature of switching: Horford guarding Nate Robinson at the top of the key

Blast,

My guess is that nba tv gets blacked because Fox Sports has the rights to show the game in the Georgia Area. I could be wrong, but just a guess.

Hawks HAVE to win this game, especially after losing 2 straight, AND losing to this same New York team. They cannot afford a 3 game losing streak to start the New Year.

Jody,

You could be right. Though it sucks that during the 2nd round in the playoffs, Fox South seemed to lose those rights, and Hawks/Cavs were played on ESPN/TNT.

Hawks finally get serious by going to Al and Josh down low. Voila! Suddenly the Hawks begin pulling themselves to a double digit lead and Joe isn’t out there putting on a one man show.

Kinda mixed feelings on Jamal tonight. Mostly bad defense and bad shooting, but pretty good passing.

I’m sick of watching Nate Robinson slice us up every time he plays against us. What, we don’t have anybody that can keep up with him? The guy is just not THAT good. Now we’ve lost a big chunk of our lead. How annoying!

You know, I was sitting here getting my mind poisoned by Sautee , and he made a similar remark as to that comparison.

Here we go. Game gets tight & we run Iso Joe. If he’s got nothing & actually decides to pass, it’s with a few seconds left on the clock & we get a desperation jumper. Ball movement again non-existent in crunchtime. Ugh!

Why was Jamal not on the floor? When Marvin’s on the floor no one guards him. Joe should not take game winning shots. Jamal should.

Big Ray

The perfect misdirection would have been to NOT give the ball to Joe. I don’t even know why Woody took that stupid clipboard out and started drawing on it. Even the guys working in the concession booths knew what the play was.

Big surprise….so did the Knicks…

Big Ray

Rod ,

Nate would not get the kind of minutes here that he needs to be effective. He’s a player, but he fits the Knicks system. I can see Woody and Nate not getting along so well.

Nat Robinson is killing the hawks, we cant stop anyone from scoring against us in the low post. Nates having a career night driving the ball down our throats.
