Hawks-Wolves thread

Hey, folks-

Kudos to those of you smart enough to figure out that I meant to ask for the Hawks of the decade about to end, not the one that ended 10 years ago. But, thanks to those who answered it. Maybe we’ll try Hawks of the 2000’s next week for real.

I’m trying to eat, do my game notes and study up on the game right now, so this will be brief. For what it’s worth, the Wolves aren’t as abysmal as they were at the start of the season. They started 1-15, but are 4-8 in their last 12 and 2-2 in their last four. Don’t know what you know about them, but coach Kurt Rambis is installing the triangle offense made famous by Phil Jackson in Chicago and Los Angeles. It obviously doesn’t work quite as well when Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan aren’t part of the triangle.

Obviously, players to watch are Al Jefferson, Kevin Love and Jonny Flynn, a rookie point guard whom Mike Woodson gave some props to.

Enjoy the game.

I’ll blog tomorrow from the plane to Denver, assuming the weather lets me get on it.

The Hawks are winning but this is a boring game. Woodson let RandyMo have it when he took him out the game.

Call me what you want for saying that we need a center and point out why. I think al would be better at power forward and we need to make a move to get a center.. im sorry if you feel the need to get mean. Im just making a point ray.

Heh….I don’t think Shaq is scaring anyone these days. He’s averaging 10.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Last I looked, he couldn’t guard the pick and roll and barely gets 20 minutes per game. Oh, and the Cavs winning percentage is currently lower than ours. Playing next to uber superstar Lebron James, I’d sure love to hear this explanation.

Good: Hawks are still up at the half. Bad: Randolph Morris needs to fight for those rebounds more.

Joe Mama,

How am I being mean? I simply disagree with your point of view. It’s happened before, and it will likely happen again, since we both have our own opinions. Not a big deal if you ask me. In the meantime, it’s clear that we struggle when Josh is not in the game. Which says something about our bench, not Al. Josh struggles some when Al isn’t there. They play really well off of each other. But anyway, there’s no point in arguing about this further. Al’s stats at halftime are pretty darn good, and we’re winning.

I think there is a failure to think it through when people want a change. Some want to fire Woody, but can’t tell you who to bring in (or how) that is certain to be a better coach.

You want to bring in a “real center” or whatever, but the successful path to that is…..what? I’m just sayin’….either you figure that one out, or you learn to dance with the one you brought….which is what we’re doing. Funny thing is, Woody seems to have NO issues with it whatsoever. He loves him some Big Al.

im just stating the obvious as the announcer and woodson have both stated. these scrubb should not be getting this type of board control

this is why you are mean.

I would like to think that lowe and jefferson are not high level talent and we should have clear dominance in the paint. We cant take this level to the finals level of the playoffs.

That’s okay Ken Sugiura. It was fun listing our top five from the 90’s.

4 turnovers for the Hawks, awesome! 4 fouls for Josh in the 3rd quarter, not so awesome!

Joe Mama

Love the scrubb dominating the paint . Now that josh is out every one is going to the paint, another basket.

On the other end another rebound by a 2nd year scrubb. although we are up, and will win,it is clear to me our weakness is our inability to defend the basket

Joe Mama,

Still not following you, but it’s all good. I like how you said you would like to think that Jefferson and Love are not high level talent. Well, I imagine so, as it would be convenient for your argument. I got news for ya though: Love and Jefferson are doing well, but their team is NOT. Here are some FACTS for ya:

Kevin Love is the third leading rebounder in the ENTIRE NBA, trailing only Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol. Scrubs do not make it into the top 3 in the NBA in rebounding, sorry. Meanwhile, Al Jefferson averaged 23 and 11 last year, though his numbers are down to about 17 and 9 this year. Again, if this is a scrub, then Shaq is a LOSER as he is barely giving his team more than Marvin Williams is giving the Hawks….and for a hell of a lot less money.

I stand by what I said…

this is a game where it would be really great to have Joe Smith. I don’t know if it will cost us the game but our top three bigs have to watch their fouls and as well as Radmo has played in the few minutes he’s played I’m still not comfortable with him playing 15 minutes tonight.

the wolves are also not the best team to go to a small lineup against because Jefferson and Love are so much of what they do. Since the report here that Horford wanted to play a little PF he’s gotten a chance because of one Smith’s injury and the other’s foul trouble. thanks Ken.

Mz Hawkdafied,

That would be a huge understatement. Truth-serum thinks Al is a second stringer. The odd thing is, that Woody, who Truth-serum defends at EVERY turn, LOVES having Al as his starting center. And somehow, TS can not see the contradiction in his muddled thinking.

yes I like Al but he is out of position and I want sund to address that by getting a center. As ive said many times, al is a good player a hard worker and I want him on this team! but for us to win a championship we have to have a legit center..

These scrubbs are attacking us in the middle and now the lead is down to nine.

No, Josh can play well no matter who is playing center.

Or maybe Hawks need Crawford.

No Josh, Minny dunking at will.

If I were Woody, I will bring Josh in with strict restrictions not to foul out.

Kind of glad this is not a blowout. Hawks need close games in order to assess themselves better.

Kevin Love got 19 rebounds (his season high) against the L.A. Lakers

Well you know what that means…Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol stink. May as well lump Kobe and Artest in the pile of losers….Wait a minute…didn’t the Lakers win that game? Doesn’t matter, clearly their weakness is in the middle…where they have the league’s second leading rebounder…

Are the Hawks really fouling that much?

The Hawks need to start hard fouling then since the refs are gonna keep calling them. Make that team pay for coming in the paint. Well foul as hard as they can without getting a flagrant. Might as well.

On Dec 6th Truth-serum (Joe Mama) said this:

(Speaking to Mike Woodson)

“Dont let them get too up or down, and what ever you do ,don’t let the loud negative few, disrupt the beauty and hard work this team is displaying. ”

and then this:

“Let me guess, by that last Twolve dunk and the way they are attacking the middle, Josh is out and horford is being abused for his inability to protect the basket”

And here he is less than two weeks later and it’s a SLIGHTLY different tune:

“On the other end another rebound by a 2nd year scrubb. although we are up, and will win,it is clear to me our weakness is our inability to defend the basket”

Hey TS, what was that about the loud negative few disrupting the beauty and
hard work the team is displaying?
