Hawks-Knicks thread

Hello, all-

Hope you’ll be somewhere to see the game. I’ve got to get down there before I get stuck in SEC traffic.

Things I’ll be watching
1) What do the Hawks do with Al Harrington? The former Hawk busted out for 21 in the first game and had control of the game in the first half. Watch for double teams if he gets it in the post.

2) Same question with Toney Douglas. Expect him to see plenty of minutes off the bench, as Nate Robinson is squarely in Mike D’Antoni’s doghouse. Douglas also went for 23. Perhaps Mike Woodson goes to Jeff Teague, who knows a little about defending Douglas from their ACC days, and might be a good match in quickness.

3) Can the good feelings of unselfishness from Wednesday keep going? The Hawks assisted on 37 of 52 baskets as they moved the ball around and found open shooters. Given the way the Knicks defend (109.1 ppg defensively, third worst in the league), I’d expect they’ll have a chance to do so.

4) How many points does Joe Johnson get? His last three games – 9, 10, 12. (Mathemeticians among you will predict 15 points.)

5) Can they put the Knicks away early? With a Saturday night in Dallas awaiting them, the Hawks can use as much rest as they can get.

Josh must realize that the refs just waiting for him to give them the chance to throw him out of games or sit him on the bench with fouls. 1st time I know of that Josh got two techs in a game. Now Hawks have lost their premier shot blocker. Not that Knicks are going inside that much anyway. Rest of the squad have to man up if they are going to win this game.

With Josh out, it’s Marvin’s time to shine, and he just showed you why he ws drafted before Chris Paul. What a talent.

Maybe one of Josh’s teammates should have calmed him down, but I’m not a big fan of shifting blame in this type of situation. As a professional, you need to know that after you get one tech, you need to shut the f-ck up.

Josh didn’t say anymore than he normally does, nor did he act up anymore. He complained about the “no call”, and Delaney tossed him….from freakin’ half court. BS.

Josh should chill the complaining, but he doesn’t make anymore noise than guys like Garnett, Wallace, and several others. Delaney just wasn’t feeling it, and he nailed him. But nobody was talking to Josh. So either there is some teammate leadership missing here, or the other guys did’t react because they didn’t think back-to-back techs were coming.

Where is Teague to play defense? Its not like Bibby is doing much?

And Woody needs to put in Joe Smith, because the Hawks are shooting too many jump shots.

Let’s be honest, even without Smoove, the Hawks should roll over these Knicks. The Knicks are horrible and we’ve gottem at home. We’ve heard all season how deep the Hawks are, well, let’s see it.

Still pretty pathetic to see that the Hawks can’t come out and put teams like this away early. They’ve got to remain aware to the fact that we’ve got another game tomorrow. So, you can’t tire yourselves out playing the lowly Knicks.

Right from the 1st quarter, I was telling Josh through the tv to cool it. Tone it down and don’t let the refs get to you. I kept saying it everytime he got hacked and refs didn’t blow the whistle to just ignore them and play. I guess he didn’t hear me! Now he is out and cannot help his team or pad his rebound/shot blocks attempt.

I guess this is one of those frequent gms where Woodson has decided he’ll ride his vets instead of trying to actually coach. In a fast pace gm like this, Teague would be far better option than Bibby, especially when Bibby isn’t guarding anyone or hitting his shot.

It’s weird as hell, The Hawks are playing this game like tonight is the second game of a back to back. They are just two steps slow in every regard — getting rebounds, stepping out on shooters, defensive rotation, pretty much everything. I guess they can make up for it by playing tomorrow night like they have fresh legs, but still, you would like to think the Hawks even at 50% can at least play these Knicks to a draw.

Somehow, had that been Joe Johnson, I think there would have been a ton of remarks against the refs.

But it’s dumb ol’ Josh. The guy we don’t need. Heh….enough of this subject.

Melvin, I’ve been screaming for Woody to give Joe Smith some burn. He is the backup PF, and the starting PF got ejected.

Its hard to type this with a straight face, but I hope Woody makes some halftime adjustments.
