Hello, all-
Hope you’ll be somewhere to see the game. I’ve got to get down there before I get stuck in SEC traffic.
Things I’ll be watching
1) What do the Hawks do with Al Harrington? The former Hawk busted out for 21 in the first game and had control of the game in the first half. Watch for double teams if he gets it in the post.
2) Same question with Toney Douglas. Expect him to see plenty of minutes off the bench, as Nate Robinson is squarely in Mike D’Antoni’s doghouse. Douglas also went for 23. Perhaps Mike Woodson goes to Jeff Teague, who knows a little about defending Douglas from their ACC days, and might be a good match in quickness.
3) Can the good feelings of unselfishness from Wednesday keep going? The Hawks assisted on 37 of 52 baskets as they moved the ball around and found open shooters. Given the way the Knicks defend (109.1 ppg defensively, third worst in the league), I’d expect they’ll have a chance to do so.
4) How many points does Joe Johnson get? His last three games – 9, 10, 12. (Mathemeticians among you will predict 15 points.)
5) Can they put the Knicks away early? With a Saturday night in Dallas awaiting them, the Hawks can use as much rest as they can get.

Ken, co-sign your 11:19.
Can anybody seriously say that Woody has changed/evolved in his 5+ years as Head Coach of the Hawks? He seems to do the same thing and coach the same way. If our shots are falling, we win. If they’re not, there are no adjustments, (we wont go inside, we dont have many offensive sets, and we wont stop shooting 3’s).
These are the Hawks 3pt % in our losses:
Loss to Lakers, 7-23 (30.4%)
Loss to Bobcats, 2-16 (12.5%)
Loss to Hornets, 4-22 (18.2)%
Loss to Orlando, 7-19 (36.8%)
Loss to Detroit, 7-21 (33.3%)
Loss to Knicks, 4-23 (17.4%)
Why do we keep attempting 3’s when they’re not falling? Because all Woody knows is jump shots. Thats why he loves Mike Bibby (and part of the reason he does not give Teague much PT).
But I am not jumping off the bandwagon. I still think the Hawks will be the 4th seed in the East, and win over 50 games. Get it together Hawks and Woody.

Your city has been blessed to have a professional hockey team, basketball team, football team, baseball team when other cities don’t and you’re telling me they don’t deserve support. I bet other cities who don’t have a team wouldn’t mind having a team that they can come to the games to support.

The Falcons have never made the playoffs twice in a row… The Braves have been a failure 5 years in a row and the Hawks haven’t even won a division title since 1994. 1994!

Well Anthony lets just forget about the past and live in the now while looking towards the future. The Falcons are 6-5 with 5 games left on the schedule, I’d say they still have a shot at making the playoffs twice in a row, the season is not over yet. Well can’t really speak on the Braves right now since their season is over but 86-76 doesn’t look like a failing record to me. The Hawks currently have a winning record 13-6 with 64 more games to go and are only 2 games behind Orlando. Orlando could go on a losing streak and/or the Hawks a winning streak and still get the division title. Orlando hasn’t claimed the divison yet.
That’s the problem. Some people are stuck in the past and are missing the excitement of what’s happening now.

But Ramon, doesn’t that require J-Smoove staying on the floor and out of the locker room? I’m not Josh Smith bashing, to the contrary, I’m Josh Smith emphasizing…

If the Hawks want people to show up when the damn games your supposed to. If woody was fired and we brought in a coach that would let this team play to their strenghts it would be fun and more fans would come. But all I see is one on one ALL THE DAMN TIME.

The hawks are right back in 4th place where all the expert predicted they would be (4-7),DUH, This is a decent team with one second tier allstar. This is as good as it gets with out a center.
Idiots.

OBRIAN-Woodson was a SG with a deadly jumpshot, which was the key to his success throughout his basketball career. He wasn’t particularly athletic, wasn’t much on DEF, and when his jumper wasn’t falling he wasn’t very effective. Come to think of it, Bibby is just a shorter version on Woodson playing PG.
Woodson seems obcessed with wanting the Hawks to play the style of ball that would have best suited his individual playing talents. As a player and premier jumpshooter, he would’ve trived in this perimeter oriented jumpshooting OFF he’s been trying to create.
I remember the Philly team that went to the finals with Woodson mentor LBrown as HC. It was a perimeter oriented, jumpshooting, halfcourt, guard dominated OFF that featured AI, AMcKie, KOllie and ESnow. The frontline players were responsible for setting screens, rebounding and defending and were pretty much excluded from the OFF(SOUND FAMILIAR).
Except for the fact our frontline players are much more talented, athletic and versatile than that 76er frontline, doesn’t that OFF setup strike an amazing simularity to what Woodson seems to be trying to permanently establish with the Hawks?

i would rather have a high school coach than the woodpecker.he doesnt bring anythink to the team off or def.,dosnt develope any one. our allstar is a ball hogging jerk only interested in being the big man. why the hell dont we try to trade him for a decent center while we still have a chance. i am sure our offense will be better because we will be moving the ball & not dribbling the shot clock away .jj needs to go.woodson just needs to dissapear, nothing personal
no one wants to see a team that shows promise but is consistantly getting blown out of games & playing like a cellar team

You can always spot the unlearned wannabe fan’s because their emotions rise and fall with every win or lost.. At the end of 82 games they are irrational radicals, like the chief hater on this site.
For the balanced, keep in mind that we have 1 second tier all star, no legitimate center, a guard who is can not defend and gets back down every time the other teams need a sure basket. We have a open invitation to the basket because our center cant defend the post. These are weakness that the other coaches can and will exploit. You cant stop it with the talent we have. (lack of talent)Im ok with switching because man to man we would be less than a .500pct team. We have too many holes with bibby and, horford. This is an average team who looks good most of the time because of woody’s ability to compensate for these weaknesses. No team with one second tier all star can really hope to play like an elite team. So why be surprised when they don’t? They aren’t an elite team, just a decent team with one second tier all star.Although Crawford is flashy and a good player he is not much better than flip, given the same number of minutes.
Dont get your hopes up and down. This team does not have much all star caliber talent that would make them an titlist type team. No, some days you lose to the knicks and other days beat the Celtics. By the Way. Even the lakers, Celtic, Cleveland and Orlando, have days where they lose to the bottom teams or have a two, three game losing streak. Most fans support their teams through times like those, we call for the coaches head as if we are the defending champs. Do we have an 1st tier all star?
This is not a championship team so stop expecting one!
By the way Id cast my vote today for JJ being an 1st tier allstar (even kobe, Lebron, and howard have off days too).JJ is getting it done! Id cast a vote for Josh too.
