Hawks-Knicks thread

Hello, all-

Hope you’ll be somewhere to see the game. I’ve got to get down there before I get stuck in SEC traffic.

Things I’ll be watching
1) What do the Hawks do with Al Harrington? The former Hawk busted out for 21 in the first game and had control of the game in the first half. Watch for double teams if he gets it in the post.

2) Same question with Toney Douglas. Expect him to see plenty of minutes off the bench, as Nate Robinson is squarely in Mike D’Antoni’s doghouse. Douglas also went for 23. Perhaps Mike Woodson goes to Jeff Teague, who knows a little about defending Douglas from their ACC days, and might be a good match in quickness.

3) Can the good feelings of unselfishness from Wednesday keep going? The Hawks assisted on 37 of 52 baskets as they moved the ball around and found open shooters. Given the way the Knicks defend (109.1 ppg defensively, third worst in the league), I’d expect they’ll have a chance to do so.

4) How many points does Joe Johnson get? His last three games – 9, 10, 12. (Mathemeticians among you will predict 15 points.)

5) Can they put the Knicks away early? With a Saturday night in Dallas awaiting them, the Hawks can use as much rest as they can get.

I don’t care about JJ points as long as they are within the flow of the offense. 2 or 32

Balance, balance, and good passing can get us another big win. It would be fun to see the post players get more shots than the back court for the second game in a row. Not many, just a couple. Another good showing by Marvin and Evans would also be great. Another blowout would set us up well for Dallas – emotionally and physically.

Yeah, let’s hope they don’t play iso ball, which always happens when things start to go wrong

I agree with the comments made. The Hawks play their best basketball when they share it and everyone scores in the flow of the game. Let’s hope we don’t see many ISO plays throughout the game.

Clearly we take this game inside first with Horford and Josh finishing in the paint. JJ’s points are as import as getting crunk in the low post were our advantage against this team is clear. I say drop the ball down low, again, again and a again. In the second have JJ and the backcourt should have control of the floor and the game, as a result of the low post work in the first half.

KevinA just for the sake of clarity, if we were up against a team that had a strong presence in the paint, I would say JJ point were more relevant and that we should approach this from a outside/ inside game.

*JJ points are not as important in the first half as points in the low post

Truth-Serum,

I still say we go low first and if we have trouble let the guards take over. But yea I agree with you. By going low does not necessarily mean going ISO low. Getting into attack the rim by all and making them defend is more what I mean.

I love it when JJ and Jamal drive and even when Marvin drives. By doing this they have to work harder and we have a better chance at put backs and rebounds, not to mention less chances for fast break opportunities for the opponent.

Of course we should do this style of offensive in as much up tempo style as possible. Conceding the fact we don’t have that center you want, the best we can do is make their centers run.

I’m hoping for a blowout so the starters can get some rest for tomorrow’s road tilt with Dallas.

On the peach tree blog during game time chat we call Josh for his bad decisions and Smoooth for his good.
I posted that we ought to do the same for JJ – Joe for the good plays and Dick (Johnson) for the bad.
We are at home so I predict a Joe night. Go Hawks!

KevinA, I like to see a player create his own shots. I say yes dump the ball in and let horford go to work, let josh go to work, if you want to call that ISO, ok, call it what you will. Motion offense works in transition or once its been established that you plan on attacking the weakness of your opponents. First establish that you plan on attacking and once they adjust or over compensate then start a motion half court offense.

Weapons are to be used.

Totonto pissed lol 22-7 ahead of the Wizards. Was it coach or player who makes the difference. I always lean toward the players taking responsibility.
