Question: Who is Houston’s leading scorer? (Answer below)
What’s up, folks?
Sorry to jump on so late today. I have to get cranking on a couple different things – a story about the Hawks’ second team for tomorrow and then a notes column for Sunday – so not much time today.
Hope you all are doing well.
A couple links:
Sekou’s blog off of last night’s game.
Ken Berger’s column for CBS Sportsline. (I met Ken after the game last night at Manuel’s with AP writer Paul Newberry and former AJC staffer and now nba.com freelancer Matt Winkeljohn. Ken bought my Sprite, so kudos to Ken.)
Matt’s story for nba.com.
A little shout-out to the Hawks in Ball Don’t Lie.
A Fox Sports column by Charley Rosen.
The view from South Florida and the Sun-Sentinel.
Lastly, you can check out Al Horford on TNT tonight at 8 p.m. for the pregame with Kenny Smith, Charles Barkley and Ernie Johnson.
Looking ahead
Mike Woodson’s take on the Rockets:
The fact that hey don’t have Yao (Ming), they have become this solid team that, defensively, they get after you and offensively, they get up and down the floor making shots. They can score the ball too. We’ve just got to be in ready to defend for 48 minutes because they can score. They’re averaging, I think, over 100 points a game, too. (Ed: 103.7) Somewhere along the line, somebody’s going to have to defend to win this game. I like the makeup of their team because you don’t know who’s going to get you. They’ve got a few pieces that they all can make offensive plays.”
Sorry I don’t have time for much more. I’ll have more tomorrow.
Ken
Answer: Props to you if you knew it was Trevor Ariza, a free-agent signee from the Lakers last offseason. After mostly coming off the bench with 8.9 points per game last season, Ariza is averaging 18.4 per game for the Rockets, who are the fourth team he has played for in his six NBA seasons.
(Apologies if that difficulty of that question was WAY beneath you. I’m still learning the waters here. Maybe the question should what teams has he played for.) (Wikipedia fact: Ariza’s high school team had five future NBA players on it – Hassan Adams, Brandon Heath, Bobby Brown, Gabriet Pruitt and Ariza. That’s crazy. You could have been a Division I player on that team and would have had to come off the bench.)

AT least Marvin said its about hard work. I am glad he did not use the convenient cop out the bloggers use: coach woodson broke my player confidence.

Sam, #2 players are #2 players. You cannot judge a player his whole life because a decision made by someone else. Let him be!
If we had seleceted Paul, maybe we could be better, maybe we could be worse. It’s in the past and you cannot alter that.

Marvin? WTF? 2 guys Hawks badly needed to step up are doing just that. Marvin and Jamal.
Hawkstar: We hashed out the Anderson situation in the off season. He was making mad money in Europe and he wanted more money than Hawks were willing to pay. Hence, Joe Smith and Collins on the vet minimum.
Not trying to get into somebody else’s arguement, but I recall vividly the Sam/Rod double post as well.

Dear Sam,
I drafted Marvin #2 over Chris Paul and Deron Williams. Why are you mad at him for my decision?
Sincerely,

Wow SAM! Save the energy for the Phillips Arena(lol)! I gotcha dude! It’s all in fun! Just wondering why he ain’t on either blog! We got love for another Marvin hater though. I feel you on your comments! I think Marvin is sensitive. Why should you be a streak shooter when you can drive to the basket like he can. It dosn’t make sense.

And I’m not sure Houston has the depth to match Hawks. I see Hawks wearing them down eventually.

Great game so far. Nice to see Marvin show up. He isn’t pressing tonight and it shows.
I wish some of these bloggers would just go ahead and exchange emails so the rest of us can talk about the Hawks while they continue their petty back and forth about Woodson and other issues most of us don’t care about. Everyday its the same people with the same crap over and over. We get it man. Why dont you guys email Sund and tell him to extend Woody so we don’t have to read about this everyday. Its about this Hawks team I could care less at this point about the coach’s contract. If he continues to do a good job it will take care of itself.

The CP3 ship has sailed. Why people want to keep looking back is beyond me. The last time I checked CP3’s team was damn near in last place! One player cannot do it all and this years Hawks team is showing that if you keep your team (and your coaching staff) in tact – big things can happen. Its time to move!! GO HAWKS!!!

BLAST, I remember the conversation ! Thanks for reminding me. I just heard how Houston gave him a big 2yr contract to go there. Nuff said! We don’t overpay! Even Joe has to prove his worth! Longtime Hawks fan from College Park also. Lakeshore Lancer alumni. Rod and I probably crossed paths back in the day. SAM pretty sure we bumped in to each other at Greebriar or Circuit City.
Let’s go Hawks!!!

After this outburst, maybe Marvin will finally average double figures for the season.
Hawks need to protect the paint (no offensive rebounds), but I like the way we’re playing. Just continue to run, and turn up the defense

Just as impressive as Marvin’s offense today has been his aggressiveness on the glass and on defense. Josh Smith has sat most of this 4th quarter, and the Hawks haven’t skipped a beat because of Marvin’s contributions.
