Greetings, all-
Hope you are well. As things sometimes go in my life, I was just about to post a new blog but I was messing around with it and it all disappeared. That’s how I roll. So this will probably be not quite as in-depth. Trust me, it was awesome. (I am being cynical.)
Anyway, I’ll give you some links and invite you to join in a contest.
Links
1) Sekou has started at nba.com and has his blog up.
2) nba.com’s new power rankings are up. The Hawks are in the top slot. For some of you guys who’ve been around, that must qualify as mind-boggling.
3) nba.com’s David Aldridge caught up with Billy Knight. Knight looks back on the Marvin Williams over Chris Paul draft – “Sure, if you had taken one of those guys, there could have been a whole domino effect of things that happened. But that’s not what happened.” – and gives his take on the Joe Johnson trade.
4) Interesting story in the Oregonian about Brandon Roy and Joe Johnson. (One matchup to watch, obviously. Another is Greg Oden-Al Horford. Somewhat interestingly, the last time the two faced off in Atlanta was in the 2007 NCAA championship at the Georgia Dome, a game I happened to cover.)
The contest
I’m guessing most of you didn’t see the Hawks’ 8-2 start coming. So that got me thinking, what happens over the next 10 games? Here are the rules. Guess the team’s record over the next 10 (10 points), predict each game (one point each) and offer a prediction on something that happens over that span (1-10 points, to be judged by me on creativity and probability of occurence. For example, “Joe Johnson will lead the team in scoring at least once” is a 1. “Jeff Teague will average a triple-double” is a 10. Actually, if you make that prediction and it comes to pass, you’ll win the contest outright and Rick Sund may come calling for you.)
I reserve the right to decide that only entrants who pick the record accurate can win, depending on how busy/not excited about tabulating scores I am. Not sure what the prize will be, but I’ll try to come up with something good.
(Entering multiple times under different screen names is not cool and not sporting.)
Deadline is tipoff of tonight’s game.
Good luck to ya.

8-2 Kevin, make the Detroit loss into a win.
Toughest decision – away game on a back to back night with a quick pg. They will be well rested.

Gotta run to get to the game, but…Ken I’ll read the entirety of your post later. I did predict on the Fan Blog that the Hawks would swipe 3rd seed, but not from Orlando. They get it by having a better record than Boston when they show their age down the stretch.
…and when I see ORGANIC GROWTH, I have to ask…did pay Astro Joe his license fee for using that term in relation to the Hawks
Gotta run.

Why is everybody predicting a loss versus Dallas?
I predict Hawks win tonight. Portland won’t be easy though, especially having gotten beaten at home by Hawks.
Acie Law is gonna have to fight for minutes in Chatlotte.

I actually think Acie Law is going to do good in Larry Brown. Brown isn’t all the way sold on D.J. yet. So if Acie can come in there with intensity, then he will have a chance to get playing time. Remember that Brown isn’t afraid of playing a 2 pg system. He was the first coach who moved AI to the 2 guard anyway.

Tonight it’s win streak versus win streak. Who leaves Philips with a loss? Remember last season when Hawks were known to bust up teams winning streaks? We’ll see if they can continue that trend against smoking hot Blazers.
Hawks No.1 on ESPN Power Rankings and No.2 on SI.com. Been in the ATL 11 years, man and never seen Hawks ranked so high. The team deserves it.
Go Hawks, GO!!!!

K.S. – I agree wi. most of your assertion about Joe and Jamal, the def. comment was the only point I disagree wi. and still do. If Joe is a loyal teammate then it will be fantastic to have them both. At this point J.Crawford seems to have put winning above all else. We cannot just let Joe walk. He must bring back a piece at the tr. deadline if
he is gonna leave. Perhaps a big or part of a much larger trade masterminded by Mr. Sund. Jamal seems to have more dimensions to his game, but Joe has a very subtle yet well rounded game. Joe’s problem that will keep him from ever being truly elite, is he is not as athletic as some. His overall game is very understated. Truly, he and Jamal, if they demonstrate great chemistry…could be virtually unstoppable. The previous statement must take into account the continued involvement of our talented young bigs. I am, have been, and
will continue to be a huge fan of J.C. Go Hawks !

“Why is everybody predicting a loss versus Dallas?”
Can’t speak for others, but I was just trying to be realistic. I think if I look at each game individually, the only one in which I would bet against Atlanta is the Orlando game, just because Orlando has had the Hawks’ number in most of their games recently. Every other team on that list is beatable the way the Hawks are playing right now, including Dallas. The problem is that in an 82-game NBA season, it’s just hard to sustain that level of play, and odds are the Hawks have an off night or two in the mix there. 7-3 over the next 10 will still leave them ranked with the elite teams in the league.
