Do they have anything left?

Do Joe, Josh and the Hawks have anything left? We're going to find out tonight at Philips Arena.

Do Joe, Josh and the Hawks have anything left? We're going to find out in a few hours.

HAWKSVILLE - The clock is ticking on this once miraculous season for the Hawks.

How much time remains is hard to tell, could be a couple games or a couple days.

No one knows for sure.

But one question about these Hawks remains.

Do they have anything left?

Fresh off two straight blowout loss in Cleveland, it’s all come down to this one showing, tonight’s Game 3 against Cleveland at Philips Arena.

If the Hawks can dig down and find something that works long enough to hold off the Cavaliers, maybe, just perhaps maybe, they can stretch this series out a few days longer.

We all know there have been far too many injuries to contend with for the Hawks to actually dream about springing an upset.

But there is still time to save a little face and make the NBA, the city of Cleveland and even the Cavaliers sweat a little bit.

Win tonight and waking up Sunday morning in a 2-1 hole gives people hope. Go to bed tonight down 3-0, however, and Monday’s Game 4 becomes 48 minutes of survivor. And with LeBron James smelling blood and the Hawks smelling vacation … well, it could be just enough to shove the Hawks all the way over the playoff cliff.

I took a seat in my barber’s chair a little earlier today and before he could even get started, one of his fellow barbers stopped him so he could ask the question that I’ve been getting non-stop the past 48 hours.

“Them boys gettin’ swept or what man?”

I’ll tell you like I told him, it all comes down to tonight.

The Hawks have been holding on to the aura of their own home court advantage, and all the cosmic energy that comes with it, all season long.

It worked for them in Game 7 against Miami. But that was a series clincher. And they weren’t missing three injured starters (only Marvin Williams sat that one out, Al Horford and Joe Johnson did not).

Johnson, Horford and Williams might play tonight (all three are officially “game-time” decisions) and it still might not be enough to hold off the Cavs. They’re that good. And that focused. And that serious about doing whatever it takes, whenever they have to and wherever they have to in an effort to win a championship.

I loved Wally Szczerbiak’s quote after Game 2 when he was asked about the Cavs’ six, double-digit playoff wins this postseason – “You haven’t seen the hard work we’ve been putting in,” he said, insulted that anyone would dare to think the Cavs are just good enough to show up and blow teams away without doing any dirty work to make it happen. “There’s a lot of work that goes into playing as well as we’re playing. We definitely put the effort in on the practice floor, in the film room and in the weight room. We’ve done it all season long, so we are going to continue to do that and it’s paying off during game time.”

This from the team’s seventh, eighth or ninth man, depending on Mike Brown’s playing rotation on a given night. That’s what winning big is all about, that attitude, that mindset and that kind of sacrifice.

And while this looks like hard work from the Hawks’ perspective, James is smiling at the opportunity to play in “another hostile environment” – if an arena filled with fans wearing his jerseys and gasping at his every move, from the powder toss at the start of the game to his headband toss to the crowd at the end, and everything in between, can be considered hostile.

“We have a 2-0 lead,” James said. “A series is never won in two games or three games. But Game 3 is going to be really fun.”

We shall see shortly.

Yeah Hawk’s fans its do or die tonight. Keep in mind I want our team to win, but perhaps getting swept will be a blessing in disguise. Hopefully, that will stir up some much needed change. Its nice getting exploited on national television, everyone sees your flaws. The biggest flaw this year was not developing a confident bench, and placing them in a position to succeed, once the injury bug begins. Moreover, all of the top tier teams have a strong confident bench.

Lastly, this will be a make or break summer for Sund. If we keep Woodrow, we must trade Acie. He’s definitely killed this kids confidence.

Time for serious introspection into our lack of motivation. It starts with coaching.
Coach Woodson has a lot of postives and fewer negatives IMO.
HOWEVER!!!
My biggest gripe with Woody is his deficiency of developing his bench which goes hand in hand with his knack for over-working his starters. Burnout and injuries are inevitable with his selfish insistence on running his top 7 players into the ground ( I feel its selfish b/c he is putting his job security first at the expense of playing and developing his youngsters and underplayed role-players.) Now – that injuries have caught up with us, the 2nd unit are thrown up the creek without a paddle. I love the hunger they display – but that obviously cannot be coached or else the 1st unit would display that same characteristic that’s rarely displayed when they play on the road – Mike Vick said it best when he said “sometimes you have to overcome coaching.”

So Sekou are you saying the Hawks haven’t been working hard all season and now?

Well if that’s the case, you can say since the Hawks haven’t been giving it their all, then they have something left and we Hawks fans will see it tonight! Well alright! LOL

The most hardworking team in the NBA is the Cleveland Cavaliers every other team has been chilling the whole time. Wow, I never knew that, thanks Wally. And thanks Sekou for bombarding us with even more news on how great the Cavs are. I mean they have Lebron and he’s a god. He is so perfect. He never fouls but maybe one time, didn’t you see it in Game 1 and 2. He never misses a shot that he takes. Lebron is god everyone should bow down to him. What’s the use for the playoffs the NBA should just give the Cavs the championship trophy they’re the only team that deserves it anyway. Thanks for opening my eyes. HAHAHA.

They should call the NBA, Lebron and em cause he’s the one who gets to decide if the game should be fun. No wait, they should call it the NLA- The National Lebronball Association. Just cause Lebron is so great and can’t no one else play basketball they’re just there to make him look better.

Fudge Lebron and the Cavs. They gets no love from me. I’m gonna boo them every chance I get.

Wtf? I made a 5 part post and it doesn’t show up…Wtf is wrong with this place? You post stuff then 5 minutes later it doesn’t even appear.

Another thing that pisses me off is how coaches like Phil Jackson (he’s the best at this) will publicly challenge players to do better.

Woodson, on the other hand, will come up with every excuse possible for everyone besides Smoove, reasons why they didn’t do well. PUT MY PREVIOUS POST BACK UP.,

PREDICTIONS FOR THE HAWKS -

GAME THREE – We show up looking like a playoff team full of energy and playing for the home crowd as we do so well. Great game but we lose in the final minute because of missed free throws.

GAME FOUR – The Hawks refused to get swept and actually blow out the Cavs.

GAME FIVE – Its over by the end of first quarter and we lose saying goodbye to the playoffs. Josh Smith sits the whole second half.

OFF SEASON – Woodson is giving a key to the city of Atlanta and a three year extension.

NOW YOU KNOW!!!

I love this team but its over. Only a few guys have bothered to show any heart this series. I know we are at home and all but to be a great team you have to be able to win on the road too and this team has shown it cannot. A healthy Joe was giving us nothing so a injured one wont be much better…. Woodpecker ignored his bench all season but now he has to use them because of injuries. Guys were on here screaming since the beginning of the season that you have to develop the bench because you never know when injuries will happen . Some felt that since we were winning we shouldn’t complain or that who cares if JJ plays so many minutes. Well now you see why we were complaining…Going 7 deep is just not going to get it done…. I was trying to look at the upcoming draft and free agents but its hard to evaluate that with The Woodpecker still in charge. I just hope that more than Josh and Bibby come out tonight showing some damn heart.

Woodson is such a idiot for playing the starters (especially Joe!) while down 32 in the 2nd half last game. Also giving Horford starters minutes the first game was a equally dumb mistake.
If we loose this game, its 100% on Woodson because he put his star player on the court to possibly get hurt in a blowout game.

It’s time for the Cavs to play a play-off game in which they do not get all the calls.

Let’s get at least Horford back, keep guys like Smith out of referee created foul trouble, hit our shots like we usually do at home, and make this happen tonight.

The Hawks were 1-1 against Cleveland at home this season, and should’ve won both games (again, with James getting a favorable whistle down the stretch).

If Horford is out, then the Hawks are in big trouble; but, if Al is in there, it helps our defense immensely.

I fully expect for the Hawks to not get blown out tonight. They will have a chance to win.

Lebron James has 6 fouls in 6 play-off games.

So, does he play defense, or not?

macaroni tony

May 9th, 2009
7:32 pm

Lebron is having one of the most dominant post-season of all-time, but the fact that he has only been whistled for 6 fouls is a travesty. In today’s game against Atlanta there were mutlip[le occasions where he hacked a driver and should have gotten called. Also, there have been more than a few block calls that were clearly offensive fouls on Lebron.

If Lebron gets this kind of whistle, the league has essentially made the Cavs an unbeatable team.
http://espn.go.com/

6 fouls in almost 250 minutes. Thoughts?

macaroni tony

May 9th, 2009
7:33 pm

I saw some of the last blowout. He trained over Josh smith once, Smith slightly moving backwards, outside the restricted area, and Lebron going 100mph… and yes, blocking foul.

Another time he blocked Smith… and also fouled him from behind. No call, Smith complains and gets a tech.

jc_dawgs

Woodson is looking more and more like the Bobby cox of the nba. Does a reasonably good job during the reg season. Only to fall flat on his face during the post season.

My wish for next year…(yes…thats right I dont like our chances against the cavs)

Keep Johnson…Bibby…Mo…Flip…Josh…Horford…Marvin and ZaZa.

What you do with the rest…I really dont care.

Also…add a stud center to the above 8 by trading away your 1st and 2nd rnd draft picks this year. That will do it because Horford will be even better at the 4 spot!

But…if you dismantle any of the top 8…we will be taking a step backwards and I personally do not want any part of that.

Do you want this team to get better? You will then do the above.
