Ambassador Adelman officially resigns, Senate Dems to elect new Whip

Sen. David Adelman said his final goodbyes Monday, making what he said was the speech his wife has been trying to make him deliver for more than seven years.

Last Friday, the U.S. Senate confirmed the 45-year-old DeKalb County lawmaker as the new U.S. ambassador to Singapore.

On Monday, the Democrat and early supporter of Barack Obama, when he was a presidential long shot, officially resigned from the Senate.

His departure leaves a hole in the already slim Democratic caucus, shrinking their numbers from 20 to 19.

“It is not going to hurt us much, but every vote counts,” said Minority Leader Robert Brown of Macon.

The caucus will spend the rest of the session a man down, as Gov. Sonny Perdue has 10 days to set a special election for Adelman’s seat.

Tom Stubbs and Jason Carter, the grandson of former President Jimmy Carter, have filed for the seat. David Montané, running as a Libertarian, has also declared plans to run for the seat.

Of immediate concern for Brown is who is going to fill Adelman’s seat as Minority Whip. Brown said the Democratic caucus would likely meet this week to elect a new party enforcer.

Greetings All,

We are filled with dismay over here at the Secret Underground Libertarian Command Center (LCC) at Mr. Suggs failure to provide a complete list of the candidates running in the Special Election for State Senate District 42. The really, really huge news is that Libertarian David Montané had also declared for that seat and has filed with the State Ethics Commission to that effect. David’s presence in the race will ensure that the discussion includes ending the failed War on Drugs, equal rights for all Georgians, a death penalty moratorium and many other issues of interest to lovers of Liberty. So if you’re tired of the same old same old from both our republican and democrat brothers and sisters, then take the plunge and vote Libertarian this time around.

Vote for Smaller Government, Lower Taxes and More Freedom! Vote Libertarian! Vote for David Montané for State Senate District 42!

He should not unpack his bags when he gets to Asia. His boss will be out of a job soon, and we will be turning over the office to someone who does not want to bankrupt our country.

To the previous three posters (hotshot, boots, Garry Owen): every president appoints supporters as ambassadors — even Republican presidents. At least Adelman is qualified — he has three college degrees — probably three more than the three of you combined. He’s been a respected state senator for 7 years and has the people skills. He passed a background check which I doubt any of you could. Crawl back in your beer bottles and STHU, losers. Go hang out in airport mens rooms with the other Republicans.

David, you’ll be missed. You were definitely a defender of the people. I hope that someone with your same drive and passion gets elected.
