Left-wing giant MoveOn.org typically keeps Republicans squarely in its well-funded sights. But, with President Barack Obama’s plans for health care reform facing obstacles, MoveOn is widening its target set.
Now in its crosshairs: U.S. Rep. John Barrow (D-Ga.)
Barrow was one of the so-called Blue Dog Democrats who voted against the president’s health care plans in a House committee vote last Friday. A radio ad slamming Barrow for the vote begins in his Georgia district on Wednesday, the group said.
Barrow’s spokeswoman was not immediately available to respond.
You can listen to the ad below. But here are the highlights:
“But when Congressman John Barrow recently had a chance to help fix our health care crisis, he voted no. Instead of helping Georgia families get more affordable, quality health care choices, Congressman Barrow sided with the special interests and insurance companies.”
It then gives Barrow’s Washington phone number and suggests voters ask him to change his mind.
Here’s the ad:

I’m sure if MoveOn were to actually poll everyday Georgians they would find more agree with Mr. Barrow than disagree. Good for Mr. Barrow for really looking out for Georgians and America in general. MoveOn.Org should stick to west cost politics. They have already screwed up California, that should be enough for them…

Way to go, Rep. Barrow! We do not need a socialist health care plan – everywhere it has been tried it has failed, and most are moving back to a market-centric system that has proven it can work. We don’t have a perfect system, but it beats socialism. And where we livin’? Russia? Iran? What happened to freedom of speech guaranteed to all citizens? Here is what I found on redstate.com in regards to anyone expressing opposition to BO’s health plan:
If you see anybody publicly opposing President Obama’s plan to implement a government-centric overhaul of the health care system, the White House wants you to report that person (or persons) ASAP.
From the White House website:
There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.
Emphasis added. Of course, as we’ve seen in the health care debate to date, the term “disinformation” is used by the Obama White House as a catchall to describe any opposition to the President’s push for single-payer, government-run health care — meaning the White House wants to be informed of any forwarded emails or blog posts or any “casual conversations” that could be taken as opposition to their health care overhaul plan.
The White House has, as yet, offered no explanation of what it is they plan to do with the tips on policy opposition they hope to receive from citizen informers.

It may be a fact that “most Georgians” agree with Representative Barrow’s vote than with the President’s bill. These are NOT the voters who elected Representative Barrow or the President. Neither are they the ones who will support either one in future elections. I believe the representative should give this serious consideration.

[...] Thankfully, Moveon.org now has John Barrow in its sights. They released a radio ad that said, in part: “But when Congressman John Barrow recently had a chance to help fix our health care crisis, he voted no. Instead of helping Georgia families get more affordable, quality health care choices, Congressman Barrow sided with the special interests and insurance companies.” [...]

So I imagine that all of you who are against “a socialist health care plan” will be sure to NEVER get Medicare. Oh, and make sure you remove your parents from it as well, and then YOU can cover their medical bills.
Idiots.

Big Jake-We have the only ‘free market’ system in the world and here are the results:The most expensive system in the world, our rank in results is about 35th and we are the only industrialized country with millions uninsured.Nobody wants to copy us. The primary interest of the people who want to maintain the status quo is $$$$$$$$$$$. The other part are ideologues, who are not interested in facts, ideology only.
The administration is not against free speech, they simply want the lies so they can refute them with the truth. Ever hear of swift boat or a Georgia Vietnam multiple amputee being called unpatriotic?
The answer to all of this blather is FACTS,get the facts. One good source is factcheck.org.For tv try watching PBS,get a variety of sources.

Leon, Only once did I “Ever hear of … a Georgia Vietnam multiple amputee being called unpatriotic? ” that’s when the Reds were smearing Max Cleland.
I trust that all of those healthcare industry puppet Reds who recite the “socialist” talking points have themselves off of their employee based healthcare system? I mean after all, that is the very system that they claim will be so horrible.
Socialism is not coming to America not by a long shot. Even if it was, I have friends who live in Socialist Nations, it’s not a bad thing just a different thing. Folks, socialism is the new scare tactic word (following on the success of “communism” and then “terrorism”) and many of you are sucking down the bait and force feeding it to others. Keeping the top tier fat and rich off of your fear and ignorance.

“Well funded” by private individual donations. (i.e. people, not corporations).
You’ve got to respect an organization that sticks to it’s belief’s even across party lines . Have we ever witnessed that from anywhere on the so-called “Right”?

CHRIS SAYS: Oh really? And which countries with these “socialist” health insurance plans are moving back to market plans??? Care to elaborate or is that just another uninformed statement? Oh, lets check the polls and check to see if any western industrialized society wants the current US health insurance system? Did anyone opt for our current system? Nope. Not even those “poor suffering” Canadians. Go ahead and check online and show me a poll where these poor fools want our system?
BigJake August 4th, 2009 11:25 pm SAID: We don’t have a perfect system, but it beats socialism.
CHRIS SAYS: You so obviously don’t even know what “socialism” even means. And since under the Obama plan, private health insurance will be allowed, though with stricter guidelines and regulations, how does that translate into “socialism”? BTW, socialism basically means state ownership and control over all economic production. Since 99% of all economic production in this country is in private hands, you can understand why I question your sanity (and intelligence). In fact, I’d say the same for any commentator out there calling this “socialism”.
WOW. What further proof is required that Georgia stands near the bottom in education? Any doubts, just ask BigJake.

My husband is a state employee so we cannot receive the Georgia health benefits for children, although we do qualify based on our income. This means we must pay over 500 a month for healthcare for our family, because the state just dropped the amount of money they contribute to our plan by 50 percent. I don’t know whether we will be able to continue paying for healthcare benefits at these prices (our mortgage is only 800). I wish John Barrow would understand that the current system is UNSUSTAINABLE. The prices will continue to rise, with the baby boomers retiring, and young families will be overburdened with rising costs. A public option creates a system that doesn’t have a for profit middle man– aka insurance companies — taking their cut, which lowers prices.

Barrow does not represent all Georgians, he represents his district. That is the only poll that counts. How many people are without health care in his district?
Have you noticed that the only people against heath care reform are those who already have heath care and could care less about those who don’t?

David Leonhardt has another in a growing series of great David Leonhardt pieces on the nutty and dysfunctional nature of “fee-for-service” medicine in which doctors are paid for doing stuff rather than for treating illness. The problem, however, is that to totally change how medical professionals get paid would be a big disruptive change, and I see no sign that the public really wants such a change.

By all means, don’t fix something if it will be hard to fix it. I mean, none of the people who have health insurance want to go through the ordeal of allowing those that aren’t coverd to have it. Besides, some overpaid people might have to actually get by with less and that’s just not fair (to them).

Shame on Georgians, since many of them have health insurance they don’t care one bit about those who can not get insurance because of a pre existing condition. But the same selfish people love to have Medicare or their parents get Medicare. Why don’t they sign a card saying they will never accept Medicare, ever. Hopefully some of they will lose their jobs and find themselves without their coverage, see how they will feel. I hope your taxes go over the roof when more people visit emergency rooms because they can not afford a family physician.

Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin and the Republican leaders aren’t interested in an honest debate. Instead of offering any solutions or even engaging in a civil debate over the future of health care, the Party of No is spreading lies in an effort to defeat reform.
Make no mistake, they are not interested in an honest discussion. That is why they are resorting to extreme scare tactics.
For example, Sarah Palin claimed the legislation will create government “death panels”. This claim of government sponsored euthanasia has been repeated over and over again in anonymous email chains.
The truth? The amendment Palin is referring to was introduced by Georgia’s own Republican Senator Johnny Isakson and it actually allows individuals to control their own health care decisions by covering optional advance care planning. Not a bad amendment, Johnny.
Check the facts at these two non-partisan websites:
http://www.southernstudies.org/2009/08/death-panel-architect-a-pro-life-republican-from-georgia.html
http://factcheck.org/2009/07/false-euthanasia-claims/
This is a sample of the deceptions, and they do not stop there. Please check the new webpage http://www.WhiteHouse.gov/RealityCheck or http://www.GeorgiaDemocrat.org/healthcarefacts to get the facts about health care reform.
And please fight the lies by forwarding this message to your friends.

John Barrow is another “Blue Cross” Democrat, who has received so much money from the Insurance lobbyists, that he couldn’t vote for something that will help the thousands in HIS district who need health care reform. He is bought and paid for like the rest of his “dawgs”, and they’d rather have nothing change, than to go along with anything President Obama puts forth. Don’t believe me? Look at John’s voting record. I live in Georgia, in his district, and he’s looking more and more like a Republican to us, every day, someone we want GONE!

I am so very proud of John Barrow’s vote AGAINST the health care bill last night. I spoke with him at several political functions and felt he listened to my concerns and the concerns of the majority of voters in his district. John, you did the right thing. Thank you so very much.
