The House has given final approval to a bill offering higher pay for some math and science teachers.
H.B. 280 offers a step up on the state’s pay scale for teachers who are or who become certified as math or science educators.
Education Committee Chairman Brooks Coleman (R-Duluth) asked the House to agree to a Senate amendment that simply made it clear the higher pay is only available if the Legislature decides to pay for it in any given year.
The bill now goes to Gov. Sonny Perdue.

So does this mean that I can send science and math teachers the overflow of papers, especially the essays, that I have to grade? And when my class sizes exceed theirs (which they will), can I send them some of my students, as well? And when my GHSGT test results exceed theirs and when my EOCT test results exceed theirs and when my SAT crtical reading and SAT writing scores exceed theirs, will they be sending me some of their bonus money? No? Hmmmmm…. State legislators, come visit the schools BEFORE you make decisions such as these!

No, it means you are free to get certified in math or science and teach those subjects to get paid more. Otherwise, you just get what you were promised. So, no complaining please.

Clearly because I am majoring in Mathematics it seems that there are few of us… I am of only 3 females and of 1 of 20 total. I think that being a mathematics major makes some feel like we have it the hardest and I agree. It is not as easy as english or psychology or History. Here at Prairie View A&M University the other majors that are subjects have it WAY EASIER so i think mathematics and sciences should get a pay raise… its deserved!
