Does APS board delay in extending Davis’ contract signal a lasting estrangement?

I am unsure about Erroll Davis’ future as leader of APS after tonight’s decision by the Atlanta school board to hold off on extending his contract. The board met behind closed doors for three hours to discuss Davis and his contract.

Davis is still dealing with the fallout from his decision to remove six administrators from North Atlanta High, including principal Mark MyGrant. I continue to hear from North Atlanta parents who insist that Davis misled the public on why he removed the school administrators.

Those parents contend that Davis was both callous and careless in failing to consider the impact of his actions on the school community. They also feel he denigrated the school to justify his leadership purge.

School board member Nancy Meister, who represents North Atlanta, made a public appeal to delay action on the contract, sharing  a letter to the board chair with her constituents.

In her letter to APS board Chairman Reuben McDaniel, she wrote:

We owe it to the students, parents and taxpayers of Atlanta to make sure we have the answers to all of these questions before extending a contract for an additional year. However, should this Board decide that a vote is in order, it is my desire that through our lessons learned and our SACS agreement, we adhere to our previous endeavors.

As a reminder in our SACS work required action #5 suggested that a final selection of the Superintendent should be determined by more than a simple majority vote of approval by the Board. We, as a Board then made a decision to require a 7 to 2 vote of the seated Board members, for hiring of a Superintendent or Interim Superintendent. It is my hope that we come to a consensus around this.

I hope you can appreciate and understand my concerns and those of the community that I serve.

I would be surprised if the school board abandoned Davis, given all the upheaval in Atlanta over the last few years as a result of the cheating scandal.

According to the AJC:

The Atlanta school board on Monday deferred until December deciding whether to extend the contract of Superintendent Erroll Davis, who has come under sharp criticism in recent weeks over his removal of top administrators from North Atlanta High School.

Board Chairman Reuben McDaniel declined afterward to describe how the discussion went in the approximately three-hour-long executive session the nine-member board went into to consider Davis’ contract. He said the decision to delay the vote until December “is a process we are going through to make sure all the parties are heard.” He commended Davis for his work so far: “Now we are looking at going forward.”

According to Davis’ contract, the board has to make a decision by December whether to renew his contract, which expires next June. The former chancellor of the University System of Georgia was lured out of retirement and given a one-year contract in July 2011 to run the Atlanta school system, which was rocked by a cheating scandal that has implicated about 180 educators.

“the need for stability” is exactly the same reason Get School’s Maureen Downey ADVOCATED for keeping Beverly Hall.
Ditching six administrators with no explanation is not stable. If Davis had a good reason, he needs to explain it in detail to parents.
We parents and taxpayers deserve better treatment than this.

I think the move tonight could be interpreted more as a shot across the bow, reminding Davis that he is indeed accountable to the board and to leave his political decisions at the door. Although he botched the NAHS fiasco, he was handed a mess by taking over APS right before the sky started falling. I would also contend it was probably inevitable that he’d be dealing with race politics in Atlanta.

McDaniel’s brazen political agenda combined with Davis’s insensitivity and callous disregard for students and parents make for a toxic mess. Atlanta would be well-served by the departure of both of these egos.

Errol Davis and Reuben McDaniel just showed themselves for what they are, raciests. They both need to go. The District needs to split.

We can look at it this way, one of two things will happen:

1.) The Charter School Amendment will pass. All of a sudden the property that the School board wanted for the North Atlanta High School will come available. The Charter School will be a High School for High Acheivers in Math and Science, with an entrance exam. That will be no problem with the array of $50/hr Buckhead tutors, that mommy and daddy already employ for SAT and ACT help. Preference will be given for those zoned in the North Atlanta District. With the next ring will be for those Zone to Grady.

Part 2 of 1 will be that Chip and crew will once again go and this time pass that any public school must take your child who attends the Charter School to either play JV and Varsity Sports in their home zone or the zone their Charter School is in. You must have athletics to get accepted to college. Or Chip and crew will pass leg. that GHST allows children in Charter schools to make a donation of say $500 -1,000 or so per sport to play JV and Varsity Sports to Private Schools . That would be a big hit with the little Private schools like Holy Spirit that only have about 60 kids in a class. Even the bigger Privates would welcome more players to bring them up a class. It is hard ot play football when you only have 120 kids a grade.

#2: The Charter Bill Fails: Then Hopefully, some parents will lobby the House and Senate to draft a bill to get rid of the limit on the number of school districts. Dekalb School Watch has been openly lobbying for 3 districts. Plenty in Atlanta want at least a North and South Atlanta District. Many of us who did not grow up here went to sucessful small districts. We did not have these out of control mega districts that are failures. There will also be big pushes for vouchers directly. Many of us support out right vouchers. We just don’t like these mega government jobs programs. Wether they are Deal’s payback to the Hall county white Good Olde Boys and mistresses. Or they are the Reverse Raciest Black crowd in Atlanta, Dekalb and Clayton. They are nothing other than jobs programs for Friends and Family. They are wasting tax payer money, and they shut out the most qualified candidates from even being seriously considered. To get a job in the Deal Administration I would need to be a Republican woman who screws old men while they are married. But in Atlanta, Dekalb and Clayton, I would be completely shut out because you have to be a soriety sister of a soriety that only accepts black females ( I just read on my daughter’s school Web site that they give a $10,000 scholarship, but you must be black female, could you imagine the cries of raciesm if a white soriety stated they only gave whites a $10,000 scholarship).

I happen to mostly like Davis. Four board members have announced they are stepping down, so we will get at least four new members elected in 2013. Who would apply for a job this public when the board is changing over and you may not keep the job? We need Davis renewed to enough months past the inauguration of new board members to permit the new board to conduct the search process.

Not all leaders in APS Northside know the meaning of a consensus vote. Meister needs to check out the voting procedures leadership used at APS Northside Warren T. Jackson to manipulate Pay for Performance.

With proper disclosure of the facts …most of the public would think Davis’ method that ditched Northside APS leadership under a systemic corruption that carried on the tradition that manipulated the student attendance and the hidden unequal education opportunities afforded to ALL students that attended the public neighborhood schools in APS District 4…

Most would agree after seeing what was REALLY GOING ON…that Davis was doing the right thing.

A proper investigation will disclose the history behind the ongoing northside administration corruption.

Unfortunately, this neighborhood has a history of creating MOCK investigations ( especially with the Professional Standards Commission )

Those involved in the Northside APS clan make sure to pack their neighbors free lunch. One phone call and a political favor or two can hide race issues or manipulate the truth.

APS Northside leaders have been historically taught from one administrator to another how to internally manipulate the APS system to falsify attendance ( both teachers and students), manipulation of the hiring of teachers, and the false creation of ACCOUNTS that created the free unlimited access of a “Reorganization Plan” that eliminated positions and manipulated salaries that included bonus checks for ‘SOME” staff members.

Administrators in Mygrant’s Northside APS group meet to converse and compare notes as to HOW to get AROUND the APS system. Mygrant is not the ring leader … he is the follower. The ring leader has a clever history going back to the years when APS employee Betty Strickland showed leaders on the Northside “How to do It” The corrupt systems in place…are part of a timeline long before Beverly Hall and Davis.

Falsifying voting procedures are second nature to the leadership of the APS Norhside. Open records and testimony detailed these unethical acts are considered honorable in the process of achieving the APS Northside schools… SUCCESS by any means possible.

The Atlanta business community encouraged and justified the concept.

Until the northside Buckhead community changes their idea of ethical leadership and honors HONEST SUCCESS…Meister will continue to use her name dropping constituents to bully anyone that would attempt to expose the APS Northside corruption.

Errol Davis was LURED out of retirement and that is suppose to justify keeping a man who did this to North Atlanta, lied blatantly about the reasons OR misused data so badly that it covered his actions. This is a man who LOVES the statistically inaccurate measure of teacher quality called ValuedAdded. It is a testing mess that has NO ability to evaluate teacher quality, there are many studies to back up this claim- even the original test designers said that this is NOT to be used to evaluate teachers. VAM is one of the reasons the Chicago teachers struck , there are over 1600 principals and superintendents in NY that have protested against VAM and Errol Davis LOVES VAM. More irrelevant tests that can get skewed to show what a school or a teacher want it to do. Testing scandals will be common place under VAM. Read any headlline about VAM and it is negative and demoralizing and great professional teachers will be lost to this incredibly bad policy that Errol Daviis LOVES. So even if Errol Davis didn’t make a huge and unacceptable set of actions against North Atlanta, even if he listened to the wrong people about concerns and tried to cover up for them in such a bad way. even if his actions fed right into the hands of the pro charter movement. even if he let go a man with thirty years of service to the district who was also LURED out of retirement and his incredibly hard working administrators, even then he should not be rehired because good teachers will either leave the system or they will get fired because Value Added does not measure great teaching and learning it measures a bubble test of multiple choice and badly worded questions that can’t measure anything that Errol Davis thinks it can. Errol has an engineering background but no engineer in his right mind would allow such poor analysis of issues so crucially important to students and teachers and communities. He has been in the business community too long and NO the state university system is NOT the same beast as a public school system. That is a business model and public schools is a community model.
With Value Added Measures no decent teacher no matter how dedicated would willingly walk into a low performing class room or low performing school because within two years, they will be fired based on the RTT funded Value Added,
Teachers are furloughed, they have their pay frozen and the man at the top is in LOVE with implementing a statistically erroneous measure that no engineer would allow to occur in any system. Errol Davis reading the wrong text books and getting the wrong advice if he thinks this is the model for this school system, Students are NOT widgets and making them take irrelevant tests, and they know they are irrelevant to them, is a wrong policy and Errol Davis should NOT be allowed to continue in his capacity. He will wreak more havoc than even Bev Hall and that is saying a great deal,
I had great hopes for Errol Davis but he is listening to the wrong people, he has not even asked to talk to the teachers, has admitted to not having been inside the class rooms of a school he so greatly disrupted. How is that good leadership and now he is in love with a policy that will derail public education and will cause a great many professional and dedicated teachers to either leave the profession, leave the school they are dedicated to seeing succeed or they will get erroneously fired due to VAM. Errol must go.

Atlanta should go through the process of becoming a Charter System and divide into smaller divisions within the district. Fulton is doing this now, and the work and expertise could be shared.
Fulton has learned from the successful charter systems, although smaller in size, the implementation is the same idea. There are three superintendents that led the first charter systems within the metro region: Marietta, Gainesville, Decatur from which to learn. The Gainesville supt. is a native of Atlanta and knows the city, would like to know her view on chartering APS as a system. Marietta and Gainesville have the same challenges as APS although on a smaller scale. I suggest APS take a look at the work they have done and consider chartering APS.

We’re not going to move forward until Davis is gone – he is a lame duck and now he is a lightning rod. Any decision he makes about anything from now on will create a firestorm simply because of who he is. Hopefully the Board is using this time to begin a search for a permanent Super.

Wow. Go cat, go. You’re really laying it out. There is a lot of institutionalized racism from the adults and the catering to people and their mistresses, I don’t spend time with the crowd in office now, never met them, etc. but you well describe something other than governing spirit, so to speak. As far as racism used for gain by both blacks and whites, I sometimes wonder what asians, indians, etc. other racists, must think. It does not seem very fair to general populace for people to be having this race-congratulation parties, whatever you want to call it, where they have the power on the plantation system. Good to see you spell it out 1-2-3 in place of readership discussing the latest imported mandated trend. Hmmm Seems this outside initiative maybe enable local abuse of power. It is a formal, since you don’t have to use you brain or heart to do anything, just import the garbage and manage power over local people, ah yes, the role of the “redelivery artist” directing resources to their friends and making others pay. Wow, you could make some cruel caricatures with that approach.

So, is this a good idea to have a 50 something acre campus for a high school? a single source big place with lots of elevators? A friend of mine (
from college days) took over an obsolete corporate campus with 100 acres and 20 buildings or somesuch. I haven’t seen the place but it seems awfully strange, probably using a part of it. Just saying, over in Paris, France they keep everything about five stories. It is very unusual to have anything taller. That way is it walkable and they use the term “human scale.” This would be considered under the study of “aesthetics.” Of course, anywhere in the US where there’s a business school, they’ve blown all that kind of study out of the water with a canon ball.

followmoney Somebody needs to publish that email on here. You know, this is a real problem, the public does not get to see the 10 tons of Waste-Management that teachers get in their in-box, various announcements, declarations, follow-ups etc. The management antics are distracting to teachers and then if you don’t read it to the letter, somebody will come around and hold you accountable because you did not follow it to the letter. And they call the big faculty meeting so someone can tell you the next round of demands and such, the teachers hide in their classrooms until the last minute, slide their feet into the meeting room, sit there until it is over, never say a word, and then slide their feet out of there. It is like witnessing s public beating except it is you that are being beaten.

On a lesser note, I’ve attended a few faculty meetings where the “leaders” roll out some hocum with a bunch of demands and then a few months later they just sort of forget about it and it goes away because someone decided on some new hocum instead. Then they do the roll-out of the new hocum. The workers are just trash to these type managers (principals and greater admin).

@Sandy springs – One board member that has said she will not run for re-election is Cecily Harsh-Kinnane (thank goodness, because she is probably up there at the top of the list for “worst public servant ever”). Have not heard others be so clear about their plans (could have missed it).
I think Nancy Meister has shown herself well in this recent NAHS debacle and hope she runs again. Seems to be one of the few who will stand up to McDaniel, and actually tries to serve her community.
Has anyone heard other board members state publicly their plans?

concerned Thank you. You get the award. Everybody read his/her post on VAM. Schools going to lose a lot of good talent. No intelligent person wants to work for moderate pay and then get bullied and redirected away from their work. Totally serious, after being around this stuff for an extended period of time I started getting this creepy feeling and said to myself, “Self, it feels like you’re hanging around with criminals, with organized crime.” It is like there is no boundary protection for teachers and the con-people are coming at you from 20 different sides. If you say anything that makes sense to any of these managers, it sort of snaps them out of it and they look like you just threw a bucket of icy cold water on them. So they go off and think and think about it and then come back and make you pay. A sane person gets penalized for seeing the system dysfunction and also gets penalized for not actively supporting the buddy-system party that is going on.

Once I was working a labor job and got totally screwed around from nowhere and had to move to a different job site. Six months later I was getting gas at a gas station and I saw one of the workers from the former job site and she ran up to me and said, “You don’t know what happened, so&so was stealing money and they were afraid you would find out so they lied about you.”

Back to schooling, teachers and schools need boundaries. All of this central power is dangerous. Time for a tune-up on Hayek and what he said about central planning. Racism goes both ways. Sadly, some past injustices have only put revenge, power struggles, etc. in peoples minds instead of a true agenda. The school system has suffered. With the exception of a VERY FEW locations, APS is (as has been said by many) a cluster. Folks too worried about polIcy, not education. Folks too worried about keeping power, despite the fact that often imcompetent people are put in place just to KEEP that power, with no viable credentials. The problems with (especially the inner-city) schools is more of a culture than an educational problem. With the lack of family support, with folks more worried about cell-phones, dos, etc. in most (not all, but most) cases nobody in their right mind (or wrong one, for that matter) would relocate and possibly bring jobs, etc. to a place their kids had to go to one of these warehouses. I am afraid that untill the entire dynamics change, there is not much that can be done to improve APS. Call me out if you want, but folks will be on this blog ten years from now wondering why APS is the Detroit of the south in its public education.

If any employee with the APS district performed such as the superintendent , immediate termination would be the only option. Whatever happened to the ethics and customer service in the district.
Strange that the top leader of the disctrict is entiltled to an exemption. Cheating, lies and false
data to serve one’s agenda. Davis has lied about many things during his term. Not to mention the
law suits APS his actions have caused. You can be assured others are in the works. Help me understand the difference in the crime of cheating vs. misreprenstation of the facts to parents students and other stakeholders,not to mention the SDOE having to defend itself from the lies projected by Ethical Davis.
This pseudo leader talks a good game but fails to practice his articulated rhetoric. Davis has no vested interest for the students in APS. Politics need to take a break from destroying the lives of
innocent children. The law of karma is sure to avenge all the evil and vindictive moves made by this
culprit.
Please do not be fooled, good articulation and smooth talking can get the best of us. To reinstate
Errol Davis would be a disgrace. I sincerely hope the board wakes up and take the opportunity to make a differnce for children by not extending the superintendent’s contract.
Allow this district to heal !!! Two dishonest leaders cannot possibly make this happen.
Besides terminating innocent persons along with the cheating group, what has Davis done to prove worthy of this position.

The irony is that the International Baccalaureate program at NAHS in question is color blind. There is an international accreditation that requires students, teachers, and administrators to accomplish measurable academic hurdles. These hurdles are not created by NAHS nor APS. Is Mr. Davis, if you pay attention to his actions and not his words, really attacking the International Baccalaurete program?

The statistical analysis performed by Mr. Appearson featured one box that highlighted the underperformance of APS middle schools. 13/15 APS middle schools were at or below the 22% percentile statewide. One point Mr. Appearson made was the irrationality of academic expectations with unequal academic foundations

One of the points that Mr. Davis mentioned as his regime change rationale was the academic disparity within NAHS. It just feels to me as a parent that Mr Davis used a “shoot, shoot, aim” philosophy with the intention of lowering the bar for the top students rather than studying and fixing the reasons behind the divide.

Further, there is a substantial amount of money in play with Title 1 funds, and if I understand correctly, school systems are held accountable for performance of these students. If there is a growing performance divide at NAHS, are there federal Title 1 funds at risk?

My gut instinct tells me more will learned by following the money.

@Pride and Joy I was there, and he gave a reason. Is it logical to expect the same leadership that has not met AYP for the 5 straight years to be able to meet a more rigorous Common Core next year?

If this were a business that had failed for 5 straight years, the shareholders would call for replacement of the CEO and the Board (think RIM, Yahoo, etc..). But for some strange reason, we want to keep leaders that fail our students. And when I say our, I mean 100%, not 58% (current graduation rate).

I’d love to think this delay is due to Davis heavy handedness/mismanagement, but more likely its due to his having made such a hash of things APS needs to wait til the attention is elsewhere.

If APS doesn’t renew Davis’s contract, how do we know his replacement will be any better? The board hasn’t shown itself as a group of leaders who think big.

Most of our students are high-needs students who aren’t being served well by the schools they attend. We need a leader who can come in and turn the ship around, not just make incremental changes. I would love to see APS consider someone like Seth Andrew. He founded Democracy Prep Public Schools in 2005, and will be stepping down from his role as Superintendent at the end of this school year. He has launched successful schools and turned around schools which weren’t achieving. We need someone who will put the needs of kids (especially those most at risk) first.

Chris Murphy You should get the experience of once you have signed a work contract and therefore committed to working for the year and by contract can not leave, then someone comes around and starts harassing you like they get off on it (pardon the informal language) and then escalate it as if to see how far they can go as if to get you to run and violate the contract. And then is while you are working, like, 20 hours a day doing the real work. Seriously, I recall a time when I was getting 6 hours of sleep a night, and then 5 hours of sleep a night. And too, I recall thinking, *Oh you have got to be kidding me, leveraging the departure part of contract like you have someone trapped* The alternative to passively going along and trying to slough this stuff off – and it doesn’t go away, is to throw away a career and get a bunch of lawyers and go full-on war mode. Actually, I saw someone who is smarter than me deal with this. Their spouse went to the school office and told them to copy over any emails or communications to the teacher to their attorney. This worked and the screwy admin types went and found somebody else to harass.

Some places in the state of Georgia, this is a standard routine and can show up anywhere at any time in the public schools from these roving people connected to the central office. I hope charter schools comes in and wipes them out and decent capable people can go to work without being accosted.

@bob I was there. He said that the state had the legal right to take over the school after 6 years of missed AYP. The state according said that they did not plan to intervene, but should that really be a gauge for quality?

Imagine someone saying that I killed another man in cold blood but the DA is deciding not to do anything. Will that absolve the wrong that was done?

I know an old old old lady who was a career Georgia school teacher and her daughter is a teacher, too. She moved away from the city where she taught and told me they were thieves. When I told her some of the management antics, she gave me no solution and sighed and said, “Maybe they’ll find someone else to go after.” Her daughter went and did some wunder-work in a different geographic area – away from mom, got the high scores with kids, all of that. So the school system doubled her work load, put her in a trailer for a classroom and wanted to use the handbook she had made and duplicate it for other teachers. That was her reward for doing a great job, they just completely exploited her.

Question about AYP, sort of like VAM. If you have a high performing school, how can you keep “meeting AYP” and keep making the scores go up? I know this sounds kind of basic, but I don’t get it.

PS Goes like this, some kid makes a complaint to their parent. “Teacher said this.” “Teacher did this.” Parent is all connected with the system and calls tells their inside friend. Their inside friend makes the complaint known to their police squad and the harassment process begins, it can be over anything. Teacher said to student, “You’ll do better if you do this work.” Child complains. Parent calls their insider friend. Insider friend assigns their admin police squad. Admin police squad goes and finds teacher and says, You said, “You’d do better if you did this work?” “What did you mean by that?” Then they decide you need to be retrained or additionally penalized and it just escalates and goes from there. Checkmate. They have their dance card filled. Central Office teacher police artist tells teacher, “Take this list and choose five things that you need to improve and then report back to me.”

You think I’m kidding. Nah, I’m not kidding.

Did I mention that the admin. police squad person is being paid somewhere in the range of $100k/ year? while the teachers are being paid closer to $40k / year? The teacher shows up for work at 7AM. The admin police person stops by at 2PM after they’ve gone out for lunch. This is soul killing stuff.

Private Citizen-it has to do with the actual definition of Student Achievement in the case of Georgia and Growth in states like NC and Nevada. It is full of affective measures and skills, not knowledge. It is a learner centered classroom because the changes are to be in the Learner. Their values, beliefs (especially about green energy, AGW, and sustainability), attitudes, feelings. You are adding value as a teacher under this theory when you effect a change in any of these in a student toward what is desired.

VAM forces an OBE approach on teachers who prefer to teach content. Common Core is explicitly a rejection of the transmission of content knowledge apart from designated politically useful concepts. So Cobb brought in OBEer Willard Daggett for teacher training and Fulton is bringing in Transformational Outcomes Based architect, Spence Rogers.

As I explained today, when you pierce through the real definitions of College and Career Ready and the actual planned Common Core implementation, it meets the 4 criteria of every major social engineering disaster of the 20th century.

I guess that’s why history gets deemphasized apart from methods or as a synonym for Cultural Anthropology.

Most historians also believe that any country where widespread private property has ever existed would shift towards the socialist mindset via Corporatism (what Hayek called fascism),.

I looked at Seth Andrew’s bio, and being the Superintendent at New York City’s #1 performing middle school is eye catching.

80% of APS middle schools (12/15) are performing in the bottom 20% statewide on standardized CRCT testing. That underperformance is scary because it is systemic and affects a generation.

I share with you the hope that this school board, or the next elected school board, begins to explore out of the box solutions to a major problem. If not, Atlanta will be left with a generation of young people I’ll prepared to compete for jobs in a global workplace.

@ Sandy Springs Parent: Cecily Harsh-Kinnae and Yolanda Johnson have said they are definitely not running. Emmet Johnson said it was a “good possibility” he would not run. LaChandra Butler-Burks’s public statement is she is deciding, but there have been reports she has already decided, along with speculation she would be vulnerable because of her role with the blue ribbon commission. It’s fair to say Reuben McDaniel is now vulnerable. We are looking at a minimum of 2 new board members, most likely 3 or 4, potentially 5, & SACS is saying superintendents need to have full board support with a 7-2 vote.

We’re also now a district that wants the superintendent’s head on a platter because he made changes in the second tier leadership of a school. I still don’t agree with the course of action Davis/Waldon took at NAHS. But I don’t think that one decision outweighs the good he has accomplished. As Jarod Apperson says above, “how do we know his replacement would be better?” Given the upcoming board elections, we rather desperately need Davis extended so that there can be a meaningful permanent superintendent search process by the new board. We need to recruit inspired and accountable leadership to APS. Fingers crossed, the new board members may even open a new and more functional chapter at the Atlanta Board of Education. I know I personally have found Amos, our most recent board member added, to be a great addition to APS.

Given that as head of USG, Erroll Davis would have worked closely with Jan Kettlewell, it is extraordinarily unlikely he would not understand where this is all going. My personal experience is that utility execs get the meaning of the Green Energy Corporatist focus. In their minds it just means that we are shifting to a Mercantilist structure where we have designated politically connected vendors with an almost guaranteed revenue stream.

Few have enough economic or small business background to recognize that erecting political barriers to entry for new businesses means at best a stagnant economy. No future prosperity for most students when they become adults and dashed expectations that good paying jobs can simply arise by government fiat.

We are going to have to have a widespread discussion about what is going on in education. The longer we what the more young adults and voters we will have who want someone to get for them what they have been mentally hobbled to try to prevent them getting for themselves.

But it will have brought lots of revenue in if you are employed by a school district or USG or are a favored vendor.

I usually abbreviate Outcomes Based Education as OBE. Because OBE is notorious, I have noticed the current euphemisms are competency-based or proficiency based or standards based.

All have a skills accessible to all and affective orientation emphasis. They want to engage your heart and limit the reach of your mind. Otherwise you might do what I do and figure things out that no one ever told you. Which some people find really annoying.

If Mr. Davis was brought in on a 1 year contract to fill an interim need, I’m purplexed why the APS Board has not already engaged the process of searching for candidates to fill the permenant slot? Just as Mr. Davis spoke of the need for new leadership at NAHS to come in with a clean slate, I can say the same of the person to succeed him. Why should be continue for another year allowing Mr. Davis to continue to make long range plans about how APS will be structured from both an academic delivery and central office stand point if he’s not going to be the long term holder of the office? Should the permenant holder of the office get the opportunity to make over the district?
