DeKalb school board candidate Corey E. Wilson: Response coming tomorrow. It ought to be today.

I just received a call from the Corey E. Wilson campaign saying that the District 3 school board candidate would issue a statement tomorrow  about revelations of several past criminal arrests and that the Corey Wilson of today has matured since those police incidents, some of which involve family matters and occurred when he was in his twenties.

I noted that at least one arrest was in recent times, 2006, and that I hoped Wilson would address that offense since he was in his mid-thirties then.

I told Wilson’s rep that they ought to consider issuing a response today as the news of his criminal arrests are now online and that the information will move quickly. The campaign aide said he would talk to Wilson about issuing some sort of statement today.

Again, when I get a statement, I will post.

While you guys are out digging up the dirt on others, what about those who were lucky enough to not have their mug shots taken; but turned out to be just as crooked?

My point is that not all crooks have mug shots on file or their fingerprints in the criminal system, but it doesn’t mean they aren’t crooks.

Actually, Kevin Kenerly did have a mug shot – and he’s got a huge grin. Never understood why people smile in mug shots.

I’m waiting for a statement from eduKALB about how they screened BOE candidates seeking their endorsement.

eduKalb, Chamber of Commerce, ODE, GAE- many of the members participated on the “Vetting” of candidates, but not one of these higher order thinking demiGods did a simple OJS search. How valid are these entities and their endorsements? Get real.

Does OJS show when there were actually no charges filed? I looked it up and didn’t see anything. AJC just released a story saying yes there were arrests no charges filed any time.

Well, Corey Wilson’s 2006 case was Nolle Prosse. Nolle Prossed is from the Latin term “Nolle Prosqui” meaning “We shall no longer prosecute.” Basically, it’s an admission by the prosecution that there is a lack of evidence to pursue the case. Has any blogger here ever been arrested and then the prosecution dropped the case because there wasn’t enough evidence to pursue the case?

if there is no corresponding court case, the charge was dropped.

I am shocked to see this. EduKalb did not do a criminal check or background check. They did not even review all the questions and answers sent to them.

It is my understanding that several of these individuals have alternative motives for endorsing candidates and they have alternative motives for being on this board.

When this group endorsed two individuals who did not bother to attend their forums for the people of DeKalb to see the candidates. However, I do believe Dr. Walker did attend one forum at the end. However, with the reported sexual harassment of women at the State Capitol while he was there by the older senators and representatives from those days, the discriminatory comments made as a member of the board during a board meeting, the school board suit filed against him, the Sembler donations, and other known cover-ups over the years by him it was a total shock to many that eduKalb endorsed Dr. Walker.

[...] golden boy in district 3 may have hit a speed bump on his way to the school board. According to the AJC, Wilson is suppose to come clean on a few arrests of his own. According to public records, Wilson [...]

Corey Wilson was arrested FOUR TIMES over a fourteen year period.

Even if the charges were dropped, four times in fourteen years is unbecoming for someone who aspires for public office, and overseeing a budget of over a billion dollars per year.

Gene Walker, another eduKALB endorsed candidate. Way to screen your endorsees.

The sexual harassment lawsuit pending against state parole board member Gene Walker isn’t the first time he’s been named in such a case. The Associated Press has learned that the state quietly paid $190,000 a dozen years ago to settle the first lawsuit in which Walker was accused of sexually harassing a secretary.

The payment has never been identified as such in a state budget or audit, but following inquiries by The AP, the Legislative Fiscal Office and the state auditor confirmed the money was paid through a budget category labeled “other operating funds” of the state Senate in 1993.

The earlier lawsuit was filed when Walker was a powerful state senator. The state paid to settle allegations that he and two legislative colleagues sexually harassed a secretary in the state Senate.

An even bigger payout potentially is at stake in the current lawsuit against Walker, which was filed by a former parole board secretary. Plaintiff’s lawyers have told the state’s risk managers they believe their claim is worth $1 million to $3 million in damages.

Walker, who helps decide when murderers, sex offenders, and other felons are released from prison, declined a request for an interview. He referred questions through a parole board spokeswoman to his state-paid attorney, Bruce Edenfield.

Edenfield said Walker “vehemently” denies wrongdoing in either case and is “vigorously defending” himself.

Appointed by former Gov. Roy Barnes to the five-person Board of Pardons and Paroles, Walker’s term expires in 2006. He previously headed the Department of Juvenile Justice and before that, from 1985 through 1992, he was a member of the state Senate.

As a senator, Walker was the Democratic whip and chaired the Senate Reapportionment Committee during the 1991-1992 redistricting effort.

In 1989, Jacqueline Livingston filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission claiming that while a secretary for the state Senate she was sexually and verbally abused by then-Sens. Hildred Shumake, David Scott and Walker.

The complaint escalated to a federal civil lawsuit in 1992, and was settled a year later.

EduKalb really knows how to pick school board candidates. Where there is smoke there is fire in this case. The stories that are told about Walker and his behavior with harassing women are well known.

He has many large donations also from Bishop Eddie Long.

Walker does not see that the current School Board has done anything wrong. It is my understanding that back in the mid 80s he also was involved in a cover-up of money stolen from the NAACP members. Walker was involved in the cover-up. There was at least $7,000.00 stolen from the group back in the 80s and Walker wanted it sweep under the rug and did not want an investigation.

Wow, Paul Womack must be fuming right now. He is a part of the group out to cut Roberts, Copelin-Wood, and Cunningham. He and his cronies must have forgotten that when you throw dirt, some gets on you too. Must have thought all the people around during Walker’s power years have moved on, or do not care. I would like to ask OUT LOUD why didn’t Megan Mettucci make this one of her important stories on DeKalb county schools? Perhaps she is in the pro-Womack corner.

The stories of DeKalb being corrupt and the BOE being incompetent should include all board members if you are going to write about the school superintendent being arrested and going to trial. It seems that all 9 were duped by forged documents and inaccurate statements, but eduKalb. ODE,GAE,AJC, and its cronies can only harp on 3 of the 9.

Credibility sure is in short supply from these groups.

Simone Manning- Moon has been accused by a dirty corporation. Anyone can accuse any public official of almost anything.
Say what? Only 5 are up for reelection.

My belief is that the Governor needs to step in and remove all 9 — they may not be all equally bad, but a total fresh start is needed come January. That will not happen without a clean sweep.

Clean Sweep, Agreed

I agree there needs to be a clean sweep. The problem is no one wants the job except opportunists. It would be a good idea for the Governor to remove them all and appoint a racially and polically diverse group of knowledgeable citizens. They can prove themselves to us prior to a special election and we will decide if we want them to stay. Endorsements are more about seniority, loyalty, favors and ulterior motives.

DeKalb Parent: Bishop Eddie Long has given to TONS political campaigns including Barack Obama. He and the church have also given uniforms, championship rings, equipment, etc to many of the schools in our system. While they’re stealing from the system, New Birth is contributing to it. http://www.ajc.com/news/dekalb/bishop-eddie-long-dekalb-620256.html
Someone needs to be thankful and not persecute the man based on accusations with no evidence.
