How are you going to tell someone what they are saying is not true?? Do you know everyone and everything that goes on at Ivy Prep? What everyone has gone thru?? If so then it makes me wonder who are you and why are you so involved in what other parents have been going thru. Wouldn't that be a parent/ school thing?? Unless the school felt the need to share parent/school issues with you.

No I didn't say Mrs. Gilbert can't have her say which she has on every televison or blog she can get her hands on. My question is why ask for money from a county she speaks so negative about? I mean really these groups are run by people and these people have feeling. I would hope so. They are not robots. Its sad but when you publicly make comments about people of groups and then you turn around and have your hand out you make it hard for people or groups to want to help you. It's not fair but if your trying to work the room to get what you want then Mrs. Gilbert should know how to play the game (hint, hint). My next question is this group that said the ok to Ivy Prep...who pays them? Who voted for them?? Who are they and how is it that they were brought together to make this decision? What everyone fail to realize is that this school was given the approval from the state not the county. Mrs. Gilbert was getting state funding which is fine because the state agreed for her to be here. When she then got greedy and decide she wanted money from the county as well...a county that did not want the school to begin with that is where her problems started. I don't know what is the big problem and believe me I have no negative feelings for Mrs. Gilbert (I may not like her ways) or Ivy Prep but if funding is such a problem then maybe the Ivy Prep parents should cover the rest of the money that the state has not covered if this does not work out in Ivy Prep favor. Something to think about.

what I'm not understanding is what does it mean that they are getting money for your child?? I'm not understanding that statement. The money doesn't have your childs name on it and it didn't go to the school where your child should of attended either. Doesn't the money go to the children that attend the schools that are in the GCPS. If your child does not attend a GCP school then that is the choice you made and that is fine. You still have to pay taxes in your county which goes tot he school in your county whether your child attends an GCP schoo or not. It is what it is. If you were rich and your child did not go to the school in your county and you chose for your child to go to an more upscale school (which is fine) you still pay taxes that goes to the school in your county. It doesn't go withthe child because you chose to do different for your child. As far as I know it doesn't work that way. If you didn't have children you still pay taxes and some of that money goes to the schools in your county! Child or not! It's called the way of the land and what we have to be is responsible adults and pay our taxes even if we don't like where it goes. When you get that law changed about individually having our tax dollars go where we want it to go please let me know because I have some tax dollars I would like to change direction for too! Nobody is trying to take away your choice.

@should have not even bothered:
It seems like you have a personal vendetta against Mrs. Gilbert. Let's ASSUME for a moment what you are saying is true that Mrs. Gilbert did put down Gwinnett County. Does that mean 310 children should suffer even IF she is out of line in her feelings regarding the county? The last time I checked I haven't heard of a single school closed down anywhere in the United States of America because of an arrogant educator, administrator or principal! My children attended GCPS and I came across many caring and dedicated educators. I also have PERSONALLY experienced some folks that should have left education a LONG time ago. Regardless of your opinion of Mrs. Gilbert she created with the help of others a school to promote excellence. Why don't you get past the personality and get to the substance of the issue. As far as I'm concerned if a portion of the taxes I pay in this county are allotted for my child and I make the decision to move my child to another PUBLIC school then the money I pay for them should move right along with them. I don't want your child or any other child's money. Tell me if the child went to Dekalb or Fulton or any other county would the money be reallocated for that student to that school? If the answer is yes then what the heck is the problem?

Your right you do have the right to choose but you're missing the point Gwinnett did not choose this school! Mrs. Gilbert wants money froma county she is always putting down! How does Mrs. Gilbert or anyone expect to get something from a county she talks about like garbage. I mean really! Would you in your regular life give something to someone that keeps putting you down? No! Mrs. Gilbert needs to humble herself and stop putting Gwinnett county down because she wants to promote her school. That is not how you get things done.

I have read several posts basically questioning why Ivy Prep should be supported by taxpayers if they have no say how it's run or how THEIR tax dollars are spent...First, let me say that the majority of the students at Ivy Prep come from Gwinnett County. Therefore, their parents ARE Gwinnett County taxpayers. Furthermore, the "tax-payer" money follows the child. Meaning, since the child is NOT at a traditional GCPS, no GCPS resources are being used.

The GCPS' issue (so they say) is that the Charter Commission was not elected by Gwinnett County taxpayers...True. However, let me ask you this, did YOU the Gwinnett County Taxpayer have a say about the hundreds of thousands (perhaps even millions) of dollars the GCPS Board is going to spend in this frivolous lawsuit? As a Gwinnett County taxpayer myself, I see THAT as a waste of my tax dollars! Take that money and spend it in the CLASSROOM!
