For all those that missed Obama's internet speech to the students, here's a video that will help you get over your disappointment (especially 15 year old girls). After viewing, go volunteer to work for the Census. I hear that there are plenty of job openings....

The Conservatives here in Georgia do not want the future generations of children to actually receive a broad education while they are in grade school. Education leads to understanding, understanding leads to enlightenment, and enlightenment leads to questioning. They do not want individuals to question what they do. They find this displeasing and contemptuous. This is why Georgia has no problems cutting educational programs and reduces funding. The legislature here in Georgia believes in their QBE or Quality BASIC Education. Basic is the operative word. Georgia schools then carry out basic functions and teach basic skills leading to only a, mind you, basic education. Teachers here are comfortable with that. Many of them only do so because they have nothing else to do. Their husbands are a part of Corporate Georgia and they don't want to be housewives anymore. So they go teach thinking that they make difference. They think that forcing Kindergarteners to read and write will make them better learners. The 5 year old children that struggle with this and act out accordingly are labeled defiant and learning deficient. This is quite damaging to a child. The classics in education have shown this. Georgia's educational system does not want to change how they do things, just what they do. They think that piling on more work will somehow generate critical thinking and teach children how to learn. Georgia has essential succeeded in seceding from the union by making sure that the youth are not served properly educationally and maintaining its "conservative" ways. Now I completely understand why many of my relatives left Georgia years ago.

Amused in Gwinnett, kudos to you ma'am! You have touched the essence of STUPIDITY and BACKWARDNESS here in Georgia where advancement is based on the "good Ole buddy system" rather that qualifications!

That's is why many other states are so much more advanced while Georgia is continually lagging and lost in their dust! We have cowards at the reins down here in the boondies who must be jealous that a fine highly qualified gentleman with an IVY league education (honors student too not a dunce "C" grade averager like his predecessor!) is president. A man with a real agenda for all Americans to prosper not just an elite few. I really enjoyed his speech on health care reform last night and the firm stance he's taken and put the cowardly opposers on notice!

God Bless President Obama and his equally brilliant First Lady Michelle Obama and their humble and mannerly daughters! Finally we have CLASS in the WH!

GET REAL!

A guy traveling through
> Mexico on vacation lost his wallet and all of his
> identification. Cutting his trip short, he attempted to make
> his way home but was stopped by the U.S. Customs Agent at
> the border.
>
>
> “May I see your
> identification, please?” asked the agent.
>
>
> “I’m sorry, but
> I lost my wallet,” replied the guy.
>
>
> “Sure buddy, I hear
> that every day. No ID, no entry,” said the
> agent.
>
>
> “But I can prove
> I’m an American!” he exclaimed. “I have a
> picture of Ronald Reagan tattooed on one side of my butt and
> George Bush Senile (er...uhmmmm Senior) on the other.”
>
>
> “This I gotta
> see,” replied the agent.
>
>
> With that, the guy
> dropped his pants and showed the agent his
> behind.
>
>
> “By golly,
> you’re right!” exclaimed the agent. “Have a
> safe trip back to Texas.”
>
>
> “Thanks!” he
> said. “But how did you know I was from
> Texas?”
>
>
> The agent replied,
> “I recognized Bush Junior in the middle.”

It is really interesting to read these blogs and the ignorance that has been projected. Gracious me, Georgia adults at their finest moments! I now understand why the test scores for our children are at the bottom of the pile. Why the rest of the country views Georgia as backward, filled with uneducated, ignorant, inbreds and a joke. Some of the educators are leading the charge in these areas! No, I am not going up I-85 either, as a Military wife for 20+ years, a parent, and taxpayer I have earned the right to make the statement.

Having lived and worked all over the world, interacted well with a diverse workforce, and enjoy getting to know people of different races, religions, cultures and philosophies, I am discombobulated by the sheer ignorance being masked under the guise that the children were pulled because it was a disruption to the curriculum! What curriculum? If the educators in Cobb, Cherokee and Forsythe counties refused to show the speech, what message were they sending to the children, who will be the future leaders and work force of these United States? My mistake these educators themselves are probably products of the redundant and backward teachings our children get everday under the auspices of "education" that is only relevant here in Georgia.

The lady who was on television crying during an interview prior to the speech, as a woman, I am just at a total loss as to why she would come on television, and have an emotional moment when the situation did not warrant such a response. Was she hoping to use the age old tactic, of crying to get ones way, to make her point. Or did she just want re-enforce the notion that women are hysterical?

All students in Georgia should have watched the speech, given the fact that for the May 2009 graduations statewide, there were 49,000 students missing from the graduation rolls and no elected or paid official in Georgia's educational system had a plausible explaination or knew where they went (per the AJC), just missing, no high school diploma! The educators sure were silent on that fact! I was disappointed that I never saw any uproar about that, not from Governor Perdue, or Cathy Cox, Secretary of Edcuation in Georgia, the collective silence was deafening! Yes, counties such as Cobb, Cherokee and Forsythe had students missing amongst the 49,000, and all races were included in that number not just blacks or hispanics. Thus, they should have aired it in the schools.

To all the mother and educators, who are so protective of the little ones, that they have to pull them from schools or refuse to allow school children to listen to our President's speech. Here is a novel thought, the little ones will probably grow up and become players on the world stage competing against really well-educated and innately smart people from all over the world for jobs even in America corporations. Being an American is no guarantee that the little ones will get the job over the foreigners they are competing against. If our students in Georgia have not been exposed to differing opinions and philosophies, get poor quality of education, are not high school or college graduates, can one of you educators or "Moms" explain to this non-Georgia educated person, how in the name of anything intelligent will our future workforce be able to compete with the rest of the world?

Please do not start the social stratification, by saying that your children are in private schools so the President's message does not apply. Perhaps, you are only raising your little ones to be functionally literate and can enjoy any measure of success in the corporate world only here in Georgia. Oh, I forgot by virute of the nepotoism that runs things here (not true intellect, critical thinking skills and good education) the little ones will get jobs that they are not qualified for and fill corporations with dead weight so the state continues to be a joke in the world arena.

This is not a stab at the dedicated and good teachers, who have their talents stymied by out of touch administrators and superintendents, who are way past child bearing years and relevancy, to even be able to plan for our children's future in the world market!

However, people can go on and on about sports and reality TV shows but can not talk about how corporations are pillaging America's wealth in order to line the pockets of a few. Government is at their mercy due to our capitalist society. There are checks and balances within our government, but not within corporations. What are we going to do when going to the doctor means walking through the doors of Wal Mart? What are we going to do when getting an MRI means making an appointment with customer service at Wal Mart? What are we going to do when corporations begin to send representatives to schools in order to control curriculum so that they produce better workers for their companies? What are we going to do when pharmaceutical companies begin making drugs for mothers to take while they are pregnant under the guise that they will prevent ADHD? What are we goint to do when pharmaceutical companies begin to encourage Doctors to ensure that each patient is taking at least one or more medication even if it is not necessary? These are the real issues. Lets dialogue about that.

The President of the United States of America - wow! The President was making a speech - to the children to make the children and young people aware of what his stand is on education. Are our children not in school to learn. Why was there even discussion on not allowing or disallowing children or persons under the legal age to watch the President make a speech about an issue that affects them directly. Was there discussion about children listening to President Johnson speech or President Bush(senior) - if there was is was not a united and direct disregard and disrespect for the the President. I really had to make every issue a race issue but how disrespectful and inconsiderate could we have been to allow the children to see us "adults" act this way. Yet we have a curfew at the mall for christ sake on a saturday evening a 16 can not walk in the mall unless with a parent but we can have a totally disregard for government and the highest held polictical office in the USA. Everyday is a chance to learn even if the children were not interested in the contents of the speech - listening to and looking at the speech was an opportunity to introduce the concept of "debates" or the do's and dont's of public speaking.
I am proud to be a USA citizen but sad to know that we still have only taken on small baby step to the concept of "appreciation for all the peoples - yes i did say peoples.

I am a middle school student of atlanta Georgia and I believe that the parents were wrong because they are not the ones who were going to watch it. Anyway, it does not matter because yestarday afternoon the school had so many complaints about his speech that we were not allowed to watch it. Honestly I believe the reason why we did not get to view his speech is because he is an African-American man. H.W. Bush and Reagan made a speech to students and no one had any problems with it what so ever. I am so dissappointed with the school system because they should incourage us getting us a better education.

Anyway, it does not matter because yestarday afternoon the school had so many complaints about his speech that we were not allowed to watch it.
Feuds between political parties have been worsening lately.. People don't understand the concepts of Democracy, one of them being the "Necessity of Compromise". If we keep going on like this, America is going to fall through because people won't get their stuff together and try to better everyone instead of watching Spongebob or going to McDonald's. This is a sad day for the U.S.
