The Georgia State Ethics Commission on Thursday unanimously elected Patrick Millsaps as its chairman and Josh Belinfante as its vice chairman.
Both lawyers, Millsaps and Belinfante were appointed to the commission by Gov. Sonny Perdue. Belinfante served as Perdue’s chief legal adviser.
An ethics watchdog, the five-member commission enforces certain laws through investigations and hearings and can assess civil penalties and suspend or revoke lobbyists’ privileges.
The governor appoints three members to the panel. The state Senate Committee on Assignments appoints a fourth member and the speaker of the state House of Representatives appoints the fifth.

Having these guys whom Perdue appointed on the Ethics Commission is literally like having the fox guard the henhouse.

More Perdue appointments from his staff. I hope the Deal administration does not take too long to show these people the door.

It’s just about time you woke up. Do you think for one minute that Deal — the man you unhesitatngly supported as our next Governor — is going to do anything to alienate the folks like Sonny Perdue who have covered for him and who want him as Governor? Do you think for one second we’ll hear any ethics complaints that might be filed against our thieving current Governor, Perdue, or any of the Republicans running state government?
Wake up and smell the coffee.

Hmmmm… Several members of Deal’s transition team are either directly or indirectly affiliated with Glenn Richardson.
Yes, we can clearly expect the state of ethics in GA politics to stay the same as has been since 2004. Much like we can expect traffic on the Connector to stay the same…

Wait – are these the same two attorneys who were hired by the state to serve the ethics panel but were running private law practices during work hours (at taxpayers’ expense)? Or are these two other crooks “sanctioned” by the unethical Ralston and company? Oh, and when does Glenn Richardson get reappointed to something?

We have asked for over a year if Patrick Millsaps is related to John Millsaps, Associate Vice Chancellor for Media and Publications at the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia and NOONE – including the State Ethics Panel – will answer us. If they are related, this would be a Conflict of Interest with major ethical violations by the Board of Regents still ongoing and to be disclosed this year. Can anyone out there get an answer for us? We even asked Perdue and he would NOT respond.

@Angry As Hell……I sure hope you do not think I support Perdue OR Deal. Both are corrupt! I just hope Deal kicks out Sonny’s people – even if he brings in his own. At least, no one gets to serve and mooch too long. Sonny’s people…..all of them…are worthless!

The ethics committe should consist of 9 citizens in Georgia. Qualfications would be: (1) never hald political office at all; (2) earned less than $50,000.00 a year in public work;(3) no zip codes around Atlanta area; (4) no relatives working for state of Georgia governmental agencies nor related to any elected official;(5) must be a legal citizen of Georgia. Do you think any elected official is really going to stick it to a fellow office holder?

Good job Mr. President. While you’re over there in Asia why not try to totally end US unemployment (14,800,000) by increasing US exports by $3,000,000,000,000 (trillion) by your math this will “support” 15,000,000 (million) new American jobs.
According to you, “in the next 5 years” instead of 14,800,000 out of work Americans we will only have 14,750,000. Nice job! Hahahaha.
How can you sleep at night?

Mr. Millsaps and Mr. Belinfante are outstanding citizens. I have known them since they were students at the University of Georgia School of Law and have kept in touch with them since they graduated. They were leaders in law school and I am very proud of what they have accomplished in their careers. I have argued with them about politics since they were in law school. We often disagree but I have never had any doubts about their honesty, integrity, judgment, common sense and ethical standards. David Shipley, Thomas R.R. I have known Josh Belinfante since birth, and have known his family for over 40 years. I do not believe there is a more honest and sincere person around. Josh is a winner at whatever he does.
