Rep. Paul Broun’s son arrested on DUI charges

For the third time in two years, U.S. Rep. Paul Broun’s son is facing drug or alcohol charges, the Athens Banner-Herald reported. Paul Collins Broun III was arrested Friday on charges of driving under the influence of drugs.

The officer arrested Broun and charged him with driving under the influence of drugs, failure to present his license and running a red light. As the officer left the Clarke County Jail about an hour later, he noted the car “still reeked of the odor of burnt marijuana left from the subject.”

In his District 10 bid at re-election, Republican Paul Broun faces Democrat Russell Edwards in November.

The Snark believes that Rep. Broun is an embarassment to Georgia and offers nothing of value to the Congress, but in fairness, his son’s troubles are not the public’s business.

Let’s get tough on drugs Mr. Broun.

Remember ……Viagara is legal(along with many other state sanctioned happy pills) ….Pot is illegal. Consult your local Pharmaceutical conglemerate.

The state will make a good nanny for your son and will teach him the consequences about partaking of drugs that are not sanctioned by the state.

Keep up the good work.

Congressman Broun’s son is 19 and an adult. He is responsible for his actions.

What does this story have to do w/Congressman Broun’s campaign, or the job he has done in Washington for his district?

Wow, those conservatives sure do like alcohol; I guess it’s a family value initiative. If he had been pulled over on Sunday; it would have been very symbolic.

This is the right-wing Republican, Christian conservative, family values, Tea Party candidate. Yeah, right! Oh, wait, Broun is not unlike many of the other hypocrite, right-wing Republican, Christian conservative, family values, Tea Party candidates. Wonder if Broun is meeting boys in airport restrooms, too?

He may be a 19-year old adult, but obviously his parents were not engaged in his upbringing. Says a lot about how Broun operates. Does your teen have THREE DUIs? Doubt it.

I do not think addiction usually reflects anything negative about the parent. That said, the arrest or indictment of any person is by definition the public’s business.

I feel sorry for Mr. and Mrs. Congressman, but is is past time for him to step up with some direct, consisitent, and sustained fatherly performance. The son is still a youngster worth saving and alcohol and drugs can clearly be fixed and the Doctor Congressman has abundant resources.

Let’s remember all is fair in your game of politics. You cant have your cake and eat it too! Just like Like you blame President Obama for the recession and everything else that goes wrong. Paul Broun also has responsibility to bear here.

Truely, if he spent more time giving Paul III attention he needed instead of traversing the state and nation sprewing lies, maybe Paul III would not be having all of these problems, which are indicative of something.

Im sure those of you who have been pointing the fingers at others can clearly see the correlation now? But can hypocrits really see!

So, crimes of the son are of the father.

How about crimes of the father are of the son?

Al Gores father; yeah, segregationist. Voted against the Voting Act way back when.

Oh, didn’t his son get busted for similar deals?

throw BS all you want; but unless you are totally in the tank for Democon’s; this is a story of human frailty and family problems that can effect any family, no matter the color, party of choice (pardon the pun) of economic status.

Those that choose to lash out in such a situation, I dare say, are the same who said “Well, Sarah Patin’s son was born with his defect cause his mother is a conservative.”

Yeah, you on the left certainly thought it in your little “giggle” pajama groups.

I would ask if the Congressman, who is more of a libertarian than conservative, if he believes in legalizing his sons behavior. Probably would win him votes in Athens.

Rocket. Al Gores’s father had lots of company back then. There were a lot of bigoted politicians back then. Matter of fact, most Americans supported those bigots. Most Americans weren’t for civil rights.

The fact that this is Broun III’s THIRD DUI and SECOND drug offense makes you wonder how many strings daddy had to put to keep sonny out of jail. Any of us would be in jail for the same offenses.

BTW: ANY arrest is public record. The real question is: did Broun abuse his power as an elected official to get special treatment for his lil’ boy?

FINALLY…the media is reporting on RELEVANT information. If the very credible and unbiased AJC would have reported that Hank “Guam Will Capsize” Johnson was a Muslim, I might have beaten him in 2006. Somehow, the AJC needs to connect this issue with the Bush Administration since they are to blame for any negative factor (you name it…economy, race relations, health care, transportation, foreign policy, etc.).

“So, crimes of the son are of the father. ”

I would normally agree with that statement with regards to an adult child; however, as the article points out, this is his 3rd in 2 years which means at the the first time was when he was 17. Parents are responsible for the actions of their minor children. The questions I would ask is how was the first DUI handled. Did dear old dad allow his son to suffer the consequences of his actions (including legal consequences)? Or did dear old dad pay some high price attorney to get him out of it? Did dear old dad get help for his son or did he just ignore it and possibly cover it up?

I find it funny how conservatives change their rhetoric depending on who is involved. Anyone recall how Fox News and the right handled the Jamie Lynn Spears pregnancy? They went after her as being a bad role model. They went after her mother as being a bad mother. But then…when young miss Palin, the Republican Vise-Presidential candidate, revealed that she was pregnant, Fox News and the right put a positive spin on it by saying they’re a “typical American family” dealing with life’s struggles like other families and they praised Miss Palin for choosing to have the child and not having an abortion. What happened to a mother being a bad mother when her underage, unwed daughter becomes pregnant? What happened to being a bad role model? Instead it was she’s a good role model for not having an abortion. I seem to recall, young miss Spears having her child as well and not having an abortion.

You’re right just because WMDs weren’t found doesn’t mean there weren’t any. But then again, it’s those that make charges that should be able to prove their charges. Why would you make allegations that anyone who did not support this war were “taking up for Hussein”? I have not heard anyone…from the left or the right “take up for Hussein”. We didn’t go to war in Iraq because Hussein was a bad man that killed many Iraqis. Oh wait, we did…but was that the 2nd or 3rd reason we were given after the other reasons were not proven. You know…when the reason for going to war kept changing.

You seem to forget…it’s the Republicans who preach moral values and then breaks every one to those values they preach.

You see the Police can test for DUI, but can’t test you for being under the influence of pot while driving.

All about a control issue…….the authorities can tell if you smoked it in the last month over so, but not at the moment in many cases.
