Handel looking for donations to pay off campaign debt

Former Secretary of State Karen Handel, who lost a bid for the Republican gubernatorial nomination earlier this month, is reaching out to supporters one more time for money.

Handel just sent out an email saying she didn’t know what she would do next, but that she will “remain involved in the political arena.”

“But before I can look ahead, I must call on my friends one last time,” Handel wrote. “As we close down our campaign, we do have some minimal debt to take care of.

“Our campaign never had the benefit of being the most well-funded. Ours was a grassroots operation of individuals like you who only wanted to see good government, a change to the same old way of doing things, and real leadership. Can I call on you one last time to make a donation to cover our last remaining campaign expenses? Any amount will help us close down our campaign and begin moving forward.”

Handel staffers said they don’t know the exact amount of the debt but repeated that it’s “minimal.”  If she receives enough to pay off her debt, Handel could use any excess money to give to other Republican candidates who have races this fall.

James – if you’re going to run this ad for her, you at least owe it to us to state specifically how much money we’re talking about here.

Is it $1,000 or $250,000. If she got way in over her head in debt on this, we deserve to know before possibly helping her out.

My friends in Macon ie…Kenny B and Stephen Dillard have plenty of money as does Erick Erickson. Ask them for cash and they will help I’m sure!

Just another would-be politician looking for a bailout. I hope she’s not preaching fiscal responsibility while asking people to pay off debt she incurred by spending more money than she had!

Oh my, she couldn’t even manage to keep her campaign in the black! Thank goodness we don’t have to worry about her managing the state’s budget!

Sorry I spent all my weekly budget on Kiss tickets for the show tonight and what’s left goes for table dances at the Pink Pony and Follies clubs.

If Handel hadn’t personally trashed Deal-Oxendine-Johnston during the entire campaign, their supporters and the REPUBS in general would be more willing to bail her out.

It never ends!

Help me fund an attempt to get elected, but if I lose, I want you to help me get out of the mess that you got me into by giving me money in the first place!

It is just wrong!

If our own politicians can’t manage their money and debt. Why does everbody expect me to do the same??? I am just doing what my leaders showed me!

I’d help her out before I’d send a dime to the crook that eeked out the GOP nomination.

Maybe with the extra money she could go finish college. I’m so pleased she is saddled with debt AND lost.

First, Karen Handel raised millions from very wealthy supporters. If she couldn’t live within her means, then that is her problem. Second, Republicans need to be giving their money to Nathan Deal and Casey Cagle as they battle the socialist party nominees.

@CobbGOP I just took what I would have given to Deal on a cold day in hell and gave it to Karen. I’d rather pay to assist in closing up her office then donate to a crook. You party over principle voters are going to be surprised how many Handel supporters turn to Monds (and I remind you Deal won by only a few votes). Putting Karen down right now is NOT going to get your little GOP wish. My prediction Monds gets way more votes than ever anticipated because Deal supporters continue even after the primary to put Karen Handel down so even if Handel voters would have considered looking past Deal’s shady background we won’t and instead vote Mond’s splitting the repbulican vote, and Barnes is back in office. So before you go spouting off about Karen Handel who is no longer even in the race you might consider MANY, MANY will not be voting for Deal just because he’s the GOP nominee.

Those fiscal conservatives sure know how to run up debt. Then ask for bailout money.

Mrs. Karen Handel,
this is not a communist country and I would suggest you get a JOB.

If you can’t budget and spend within your means while running for office, what makes you the right candidate to hold office. These people preach spending within your means, but can’t do what they preach to others.

This proves that Karen Handel is the biggest fiscal conservative loser.

Is this common for candidates to outspend their war chest? I seem to recall Hillary Clinton being in the same boat. What happens when there is debt outstanding when a candidate wins?

I’m willing to bet “minimal” is a sum that could pay in full several average Georgia mortgages.

Mnay of Handel’s primary opponents campaigns took on debt as well, through personal loans. It’s a common practice, although much easier to pay-off when you win.

Reality Check

Here is a novel idea, instead of donating to help Handel clear her debt, why not set up a website and ask for all the employees that she laid off or significantly cut their salaries while Secretary of State to contact the website and let these potential donors know how they are doing. Perhaps rather than donate to a person who brought untold hardships on many decent, hardworking people for a bullet to her political resume, find out how these people are doing. See if they have any critical unmet needs that resulted from being laid off at the very moment that the economy tanked. To this very day, many of these individuals have yet to find work.

Handel has no shame and her lack of integrity and decency should not be rewarded.
