State Rep. Clay Cox, a Republican candidate for congress, says he has picked up the support of the top three most powerful Republicans in the statehouse: Gov. Sonny Perdue, House Speaker David Ralston and Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle.
Perdue will host a fund raiser rally for Cox on July 13 in Lawrenceville, according to a news release the Cox campaign distributed Monday. Ralston and Cagle are also planning to attend, the release says.
Cox is among eight Republicans vying to replace U.S. Rep. John Linder, who is retiring after about 18 years in office. His solidly conservative 7th District includes most of Gwinnett County, parts of Forsyth and Newton counties and all of Barrow and Walton counties.
