Barkley reportedly unlikely to play
Georgia Tech may not have to face USC quarterback Matt Barkley in the Sun Bowl. A Los Angeles Times article observed that “will almost certainly refrain from playing and risking further injury to his right shoulder.”
Barkley, a possible first-round pick in the April NFL draft, injured his throwing shoulder against UCLA Nov. 17 and did not play the following week against Notre Dame. He has yet to take part in bowl practices. He has been expected to join practices with the team when it arrives in El Paso, Texas, on Dec. 26.
The Times story was the strongest indication that Barkley will not play. He and backup Max Wittek, who started against Notre Dame, are listed as co-starters. Wittek was 14-for-23 for 186 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Wittek told the L.A. Times, “I’m prepared to lead this team.”
Tech interim defensive coordinator Charles Kelly said he would not approach Wittek any differently than Barkley.
“If he’s the backup quarterback or listed as the backup, he’s not very far behind (Barkley),” Kelly said. “He made some unbelievable throws in the Notre Dame game. He’s got a really, really strong arm, can throw the ball downfield, probably as far as anybody we’ve seen distance-wise. And then when you have good people around you – you’ve got good running backs, you’ve got good receivers, you’ve got a good offensive line, that usually makes your quarterback even better.”

Last time I looked in the US, an accused person is innocent until proven guilty. As far as I know, Crittenton’s case has still not gone to trial, and, although he may indeed be guilty, as of now, he is innocent. One thing is for sure though, “Tech Players Arrested” has proven beyond any shadow of doubt that he is an ignorant troll azzhole; he is guilty as charged, your honor.

I’m not trying to be funny here, but, does Barkley serious think he will take a hit in the Sun bowl if he plays? Have they not watched the tape of our defense? I mean, GSU had more sacks against UFA than we did. I would be surprised if we even breathe on their qb. He may be the safest person in the stadium that night. I’m not trying to be facetious or funny. It truly is sad.

I was with you until you said that he was the best coach on the staff.He was the defensive line coach.Did you see the SEC championship game? He also got a $150,000 pay increase.Every time another school approached Garner Georgia gave him a pay increase.This may have an impact on this year’s recruiting class but it wont over the long tearm because Georgia will hire a better coach and recruiter than Garner.It not a loss,its an opportunity to improve.Hopefully they can hire Travis Jones from the Saints who was a lead recruiter D line coach for Les Miles.I know you want to throw dirt on Georgia but I think the next hire will only feed your envy.Happy Holidays.

BTW, saw Calvin Johnson on cover of ESPN mag with his BD years yj wings veins on forearms and upper arms, and knew he was player under “Buzz” years veinless female wings, which indicates disorganization of symbolic art message, thus disorganization of Tech Athletic Department; if no veins on “Buzz” pictured at top of this page, “Buzz” mascot on field probably must be female student inside; I’d rather not identify with veinless by wearing “Buzz” “Vintage” clothing, I from BD=AD years of ‘69-’73. IF BD years yj brought back to GT, Tech would probably start to win bowl games again. Bring back some more old gold for unis also, such as 2009 unis, that was old gold enough. Notice PJ dropped the old gold striped unis for the Chick Bowl and for the following years in favor of black pants stripes for two years.

You would think that after the last few years the Tech folks would leave UGA alone on these boards.. What, one win in 10 years, checking in at 10%. You guys got to be kidding. When you think another Calvin Johnson is coming along and save the program?.Once every 10-15 years…Paul is a good coach, but he can’t win with half the talent these other schools have. You don’t have a defensive player in the front 7 who could start for UGA, Florida State, even Va. Tech or Miami. The ole dude who was coaching the defense didn’t all of a sudden forget how to coach defense, and Van Gorder at Auburn didn’t all of a sudden forget how to coach defense….You got to have somebody to coach who can get the job done. You can do some smoke and mirrors on offense, but when it comes to defense, there is no way to hide lack of talent. Coach Kelly is a good defensive coach, but not much has changed since the firing of the older dude…Why not? They still playing with the same guys on defense, thats why…Not the X’s and O’s, but the Jimmy’s and Joe’s….

A bunch, but none of them, in school or out, have been accused of murder (but there is probably someone that I have not heard of); but, hey, that basketball coach who got the DUI a couple of weeks ago is still suspended, and, don’t forget about good ol Reuben Houston…
And, yes, we know, some of the Tech guys are rocket scientists and astronauts, and no Bulldog is again, that I know of, though I am sure there are some rocket scientist in all of those Rhodes Scholars that UGA has developed)…

LOL Awesomeb—yep probably the safest player on the football field is the opposing QB—heck the most dangerous place is in the stands—what 4 people falling over railings at various games this year—-based on the way GT plays at times, they could have been intentional.
Merry Christmas everyone and perhaps we can start off next season with a win against an unmotivated, yet traditional powerhouse team. If the D plays like the 2nd half against FSU and the offense runs well and throws enough to keep their D honest, then we should pull out the win—perhaps with a respectable margin.

Georgia and Georgia Tech each had one Rhodes Scholar for 2012. Both were women. Georgia’s winner majored in Arabic and international policy, and Georgia Tech’s winner majored in computer science.
