By my count, offensive line, defensive backs, linebackers and specialists all had six players each. (This is probably unfair to the position groups with fewer players, although there’s probably fewer specialists on the team than any other position group.)

Considering there can only be a max of 85 players on scholarship at one time, and also knowing there are walk-on players included on this list who worked very hard to support them, I can personally attest to how difficult it is to achieve such good grades at GA Tech, especially in light of the fact these guys were putting in so many hours during the football season. Congratulations to all and best of luck in El Paso…Beat the Trojans.

Grade inflation—it’s that high school academic program they run over at GT that persident Peterson implemented—no wait, it’s that high school football offense that CPJ implemented that we’re supposed to complain about—nevermind. Congrats to all the players from an alum who was on the 2.0 and go plan.

Congratulations guys! This is better than SEC speed any day. Keep working hard and get that degree. You make us all proud. I said at the beginning of 2012 that 2013 was going to be the real year for the Jackets on the playing field. Things are really shaping up that way. If you are on the team with good grades, then that is what it is all about. Go Jackets!

well what we do know is that Bama and UGA would never have 35 athletes on the Dean’s list unless it involved transcript fraud. I am sure Bama is just happy to tweak their h.s. transcripts to get them into Gump U.

Read the bios of the players and you’ll find that several are repeat Den’s List guys. Braun, Isaiah Johnson, Godhigh, Lanier and Will Jackson all made it in the Spring. That’s just among the guys that play a lot. Braun is listed as a mechanical eng. major, and Menocal as civil eng..

2nd – no, I’m a 70+ GT fan beginning with Dodd from way back. You’re the one who must be not out of grammer school yet if you didn’t notice the dawg postings of Yeller Bug, Hawkk, Silver britches and Fan prior to my post which gave me every right to defend my post from ignorants like them and you. Apparently, you must condone their trash since there wasn’t any comments made to them – and therefore that places you in the same boat with them. Don’t be so damn pious the next time you post and take the time to read all the post prior to the last one you post after – before you slam some one on their own blog. No, I would rather have Crystal footballs than a deans list student… I had problems keeping my gpa over 2.0, lol. IMHO, yours will be different.

@Ken
Coach Johnson is there to WIN. Period. He has failed. We should drop a notch in football if academics is what we are all about.. I think our football history would suggest that we are about winning championships.. Our football history is going down the drain with this coach, and everybody who knows football understands …

In a sort of related thought; when a recruit says he is losing interest in a school because his prospective position coach was fired or left for another school, I just have to shake my head and say’where is the parental influence? When your future plan for life only consists of plotting your course 24 hrs at a time, you are already behindthe ‘8 ball’!

He has on average recruited better than Gailey if you go by rankings.
His players have not garnered a lot of attention on the police blotter nor should they ever.
His teams have the highest SAT scores in Div 1 football.
Graduation rates have improved under his tenure and so have GPA’s.
In short he has recruited high character that have the more than held their own in the classroom. Whether it’s with his redshirting policy or how he has career fairs designed for his players, he is making sure they are prepared for Tech and is increasingly making sure they matriculate throughout towards graduation and beyond into the real world.

First — congrats to these guys. It is an honor, and your degree is worth more than your trophy. Second — our snarky slams at UGA are pitiful. We are obsessed with all things Athens and tend to be inaccurate in our remarks. Here are some facts, and I am absolutely proud of every kid over there who has succeeded. It takes a 3.5 to make Dean’s list at UGA, but a 3.0 to make the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.
ATHENS, Ga. – Forty-four out of 111 members of the University of Georgia Football team were named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the spring of 2012. Student-athletes earn these honors for finishing the semester with a grade point average of 3.00 or better.
Out of the 44 players to earn a spot on the honor roll, six were also named to the Dean’s List as a student that maintained a 3.50 GPA or better while earning at least 14 credit hours for the semester.

Ok Sojourner, the UGA stats also mean little without context. What overall percentage of UGA students made the deans list, not just the athletes? What percentage of students in the athlete’s colleges made the dean’s list? In order to see how well athletes are performing academically, we need to see they compare to the overall student body,,,
