35 football players make dean’s list

The Georgia Tech football team place 35 players on the dean’s list for the fall term, including 23 scholarship players.

Seniors (academically)
Marty Alcala
Ray Beno
Will Jackson
Tyler Kidney
Tyler Morgan
David Scully

Juniors
Trey Braun
Coray Carlson
Deon Hill
Jerredith Jiles
Isaiah Johnson
Sam McNearney
Quayshawn Nealy

Sophomores
Tim Byerly
Andrew Chau
Anthony Harrell

Blake Hembree (4.0)

Will Smith (4.0)
Sean Tobin
Nick Menocal

Freshmen
Marcus Allen
Zach Allen
Roderick Chungong
Pat Gamble
Adam Gotsis
Nick Cuthbert
Beau Hankins
Francis Kallon
Stephen Murphey

Chase Roberts (4.0)
Ryan Rodwell
Kyle Stallard
Tyler Stargel
Aaron Solender
D.J. White

By my count, offensive line, defensive backs, linebackers and specialists all had six players each. (This is probably unfair to the position groups with fewer players, although there’s probably fewer specialists on the team than any other position group.)

That’s impressive. I think I made Dean’s List only one time at Tech, and I didn’t even have to worry about football. Now go win a bowl game!

& way to go-you don’t need a crystal ball to see these kids are going to do well in life…..agree with Tokyo, makes me glad, & proud to hang a Tech diploma on my wall, knowing none of them have basket weaving printed on them-& i know how tough it was to get that “with honor” on it……

Congratulations to them. Like many yardsticks of success, though, this needs to be put in context. What percentage of the overall student population made the Dean’s List, as well as the overall percentage in the schools of the athletes’ majors.

Congratulations to all, and to all, a ig Thank You, for showing what results can be achieved with dedication and hard work. To Blake Hembree, Will Smith, and Chase Roberts, those 4.0 GPAs look mighty good, don’t they…..

Woofey One…….Winning is NOT over-rated! If you make the Deans list and still win games, so much the better. Winning does not stop when you graduate! Being a winner sets the tone for the rest of your life, You can do both and are better for it.

In a sort of related thought; when a recruit says he is losing interest in a school because his prospective position coach was fired or left for another school, I just have to shake my head and say’where is the parental influence? When your future plan for life only consists of plotting your course 24 hrs at a time, you are already behindthe ‘8 ball’!

I’m so proud of Tech! Winning is only one facet of life’s journey. Character, discipline, grades, integrity. I’ll take 6-7 and playing USC in the Sun Bowl anyday with these results. Tech stands for excellence and that extends beyond 12 Saturdays in the fall.

He has on average recruited better than Gailey if you go by rankings.
His players have not garnered a lot of attention on the police blotter nor should they ever.
His teams have the highest SAT scores in Div 1 football.
Graduation rates have improved under his tenure and so have GPA’s.

In short he has recruited high character that have the more than held their own in the classroom. Whether it’s with his redshirting policy or how he has career fairs designed for his players, he is making sure they are prepared for Tech and is increasingly making sure they matriculate throughout towards graduation and beyond into the real world.

Congrats to all these guys! It’s difficult to make the List at GT even without the commitment to football. Way to go and keep it up!

That truly makes the somewhat exasperating performance on the field a bit irrelevant.
Congrats young men.

First — congrats to these guys. It is an honor, and your degree is worth more than your trophy. Second — our snarky slams at UGA are pitiful. We are obsessed with all things Athens and tend to be inaccurate in our remarks. Here are some facts, and I am absolutely proud of every kid over there who has succeeded. It takes a 3.5 to make Dean’s list at UGA, but a 3.0 to make the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

ATHENS, Ga. – Forty-four out of 111 members of the University of Georgia Football team were named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the spring of 2012. Student-athletes earn these honors for finishing the semester with a grade point average of 3.00 or better.

Out of the 44 players to earn a spot on the honor roll, six were also named to the Dean’s List as a student that maintained a 3.50 GPA or better while earning at least 14 credit hours for the semester.

I thought 12 hours was a full load Sojourner Truth. It was 15 hours with quarters. 14 semester hours would be 4 classes.

Ok Sojourner, the UGA stats also mean little without context. What overall percentage of UGA students made the deans list, not just the athletes? What percentage of students in the athlete’s colleges made the dean’s list? In order to see how well athletes are performing academically, we need to see they compare to the overall student body,,,
