35 football players make dean’s list

The Georgia Tech football team place 35 players on the dean’s list for the fall term, including 23 scholarship players.

Seniors (academically)
Marty Alcala
Ray Beno
Will Jackson
Tyler Kidney
Tyler Morgan
David Scully

Trey Braun
Coray Carlson
Deon Hill
Jerredith Jiles
Isaiah Johnson
Sam McNearney
Quayshawn Nealy

Tim Byerly
Andrew Chau
Anthony Harrell

Blake Hembree (4.0)

Will Smith (4.0)
Sean Tobin
Nick Menocal

Marcus Allen
Zach Allen
Roderick Chungong
Pat Gamble
Adam Gotsis
Nick Cuthbert
Beau Hankins
Francis Kallon
Stephen Murphey

Chase Roberts (4.0)
Ryan Rodwell
Kyle Stallard
Tyler Stargel
Aaron Solender
D.J. White

By my count, offensive line, defensive backs, linebackers and specialists all had six players each. (This is probably unfair to the position groups with fewer players, although there’s probably fewer specialists on the team than any other position group.)

Well done all!

What is the minimum GPA required to make it on the Dean’s list?

The minimum GPA used to be 3.0.

Congratulations to all who made the Dean’s List!

Considering there can only be a max of 85 players on scholarship at one time, and also knowing there are walk-on players included on this list who worked very hard to support them, I can personally attest to how difficult it is to achieve such good grades at GA Tech, especially in light of the fact these guys were putting in so many hours during the football season. Congratulations to all and best of luck in El Paso…Beat the Trojans.

Grade inflation—it’s that high school academic program they run over at GT that persident Peterson implemented—no wait, it’s that high school football offense that CPJ implemented that we’re supposed to complain about—nevermind. Congrats to all the players from an alum who was on the 2.0 and go plan.

Congratulations guys! This is better than SEC speed any day. Keep working hard and get that degree. You make us all proud. I said at the beginning of 2012 that 2013 was going to be the real year for the Jackets on the playing field. Things are really shaping up that way. If you are on the team with good grades, then that is what it is all about. Go Jackets!

well what we do know is that Bama and UGA would never have 35 athletes on the Dean’s list unless it involved transcript fraud. I am sure Bama is just happy to tweak their h.s. transcripts to get them into Gump U.

We have a helluva team of engineers. Congrats to the STUDENT-Athletes, Yellow Jacket nation is proud of you. Remember, 99.9% of the time your degree will take you farther than anything you do on an athletic field. McDonalds won’t let the ex-Bama players wear their championship rings while they serve me my fries…

Read the bios of the players and you’ll find that several are repeat Den’s List guys. Braun, Isaiah Johnson, Godhigh, Lanier and Will Jackson all made it in the Spring. That’s just among the guys that play a lot. Braun is listed as a mechanical eng. major, and Menocal as civil eng..

What’s the GPA average for the Tech football team 1.5…and of course they play like it too. Southern Cal. will hang 40 on the blowflys in the “taco bowl”.

Congratulations – all. Outstanding accomplishment! Even the DAWGs who don’t know what a Deans List is – or have never seen a grade above a 1.5 – are impressed (although they don’t know why). They keep bringing up something about Jan Kemp and not having to study if you’re a jock at UGA.

There aren’t 35 UGA FB players that can spell Dean’s List let alone count to 35!

Old timer…first as a dawg fan, I want to congratulate all of the Dean’s List players….that’s a helluv an accomplishment for any football player. 2nd….are u just a 12 year old posing as an old timer? You can’t even give kudos to your boys without saying something negative about UGA. Geezus…some of you tech fans just can’t let sh!t go. Be proud of your team and let bygones be bygones.

Bali – First as a Tech fan, I want to thank you for your offer of congratulations to the guys who made the Dean’s List –
2nd – no, I’m a 70+ GT fan beginning with Dodd from way back. You’re the one who must be not out of grammer school yet if you didn’t notice the dawg postings of Yeller Bug, Hawkk, Silver britches and Fan prior to my post which gave me every right to defend my post from ignorants like them and you. Apparently, you must condone their trash since there wasn’t any comments made to them – and therefore that places you in the same boat with them. Don’t be so damn pious the next time you post and take the time to read all the post prior to the last one you post after – before you slam some one on their own blog. You’re no different than your dawg friends so go sniffing around your own blog.

Congratulations to these fine young men… I personally know how hard it was to make the Dean’s list as a student at Tech and it must be twice as hard when devoting time to representing the Institute on the athletic field…

Congratulations to Coach Johnson for recruiting such high quality, high character young men… I am proud to have such a group represent myself and the Institute now and as men later on in their lives…

No, I would rather have Crystal footballs than a deans list student… I had problems keeping my gpa over 2.0, lol. I understand the commitment it takes to make that kind of grade… But hey, we are talking competitive football, and I personally want competitive players that are not an embarrassment on the field of play.. IMHO, yours will be different.

Congrats to the kids who are academically sound. Football or not, it’s tough to make deans list at the institution…

Coach Johnson is there to WIN. Period. He has failed. We should drop a notch in football if academics is what we are all about.. I think our football history would suggest that we are about winning championships.. Our football history is going down the drain with this coach, and everybody who knows football understands …
