Solomon Poole could play Monday

Georgia Tech coach Brian Gregory said Thursday that early enrollee Solomon Poole could play as early as Monday for the Yellow Jackets in their game against Alabama State. His older brother Stacey, a transfer from Kentucky, may have to wait until the Dec. 22 game against the Citadel.

Gregory is waiting for both to be certified, Stacey by the school and Solomon by the NCAA. As a transfer from Kentucky, Stacey Poole must spend an entire academic year in residence at Tech before gaining eligibility to play. He arrived at the start of the 2012 spring term, and the fall term ends Saturday.

“Once the grades come in, then it’s up to compliance and the university, the institution, to certify him,” said Gregory, speaking prior to his team’s practice. “That’s why there’s that lag. Some places, you’re eligible as soon as the finals are over. Some places, you’re not eligible until second semester starts. We’re kind of in the middle.”’

With Solomon Poole, a freshman, he needs to gain clearance from the NCAA. He can start practicing with the team Saturday.

“We’re hoping that comes any day now,” Gregory said. “If it comes before the end of the week, then he would be eligible to play on Monday. If it doesn’t, then he wouldn’t be eligible and we’d just keep waiting until he’s done.”

I’m not sure how these two guys will perform because I know nothing about them, but this feels like some really positive stuff. Keep up the good work, CBG.

i think the addition of the Poole brothers can only be a positive. They may end up being better than a lot of “experts” though they would be.

Big News! Thanks for updates Ken, I hope your next update will be stating that Solomon is playing Monday! Alabama A&M (our opponent on Monday) is 0-7 and I believe that would be a perfect way to transition Solomon into a Division 1 type atmosphere… looking forward to big things from the Poole brothers! GO JACKETS!

In b’ball you don’t have to put them in a weight progam and work on their development the way you do in football. If a player is good enough you get him playing ASAP – because he won’t be in college long.

He wouldn’t have come to play for CBG @Tech (for that matter neither would his brother) if he were going to be redshirted. This isn’t football. Hope they are both playing Monday!

@5150 … I hadn’t heard about Daniel Drummond’s dad. Thanks for posting. This had to be especially difficult for him, as it occurred during final exam week. He and the family will definitely need our prayers.
