Georgia Tech wide receiver Jeff Greene is no longer with the team, according to his high school coach. Starr’s Mill High coach Chad Phillips said he was notified over the weekend.
“We’re trying to help him get re-directed and get off the mat, find a place for him to go and proceed,” Phillips said.
Phillips said that Tech coaches had been frustrated with Greene’s effort and attitude and that they and Greene “decided it would be best to part ways.” Phillips expected Greene, a sophomore in eligibility and class standing, to attempt to transfer to continue his playing career.
“It’s a crying shame,” Phillips said. “The (coaches) bent over backwards to help him. He was on his way to getting a college degree from Georgia Institute of Technology. It’s a shame he had to be a little selfish.”
More than once, Tech coach Paul Johnson noted Greene’s size-speed combination and potential to become the Yellow Jackets’ next great receiver. Last spring, Johnson said that he wanted Greene to be more consistent in effort and pass receiving and planned to get on him because of his ability. This year, Greene leads the team with 18 catches for 284 yards, a 21.8 yards-per-game average, with two touchdowns. He started seven games.
For the Dec. 31 Sun Bowl against USC, that leaves Corey Dennis, Chris Jackson, Jeremy Moore and Darren Waller as the top options at wide receiver.
Greene could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Potential…a word you never want to hear. Greene and his bad attitude are gone. He is un coachable and always was. His lack of effort and bad attitude finally caught up to him. Starr’s Mill coaches knew it when he was there. GT Fan what makes you think he was special? His footwork? His lack of effort? His drops? His quitting on a play? The real sad thing is he lost his ability to get educated.

Hate if for the young man. I really hoped he could make big plays for TECH and a good Degree for himself.
GT BIO he didn’t sound selfish………………………….A gifted young receiver who is expected to help fill the void of losing starters Stephen Hill and Tyler Melton… has great size and athleticism… has been timed at 4.61 in the 40… a local product from nearby Peachtree City… comes from the same high school as sophomore teammate Zach Laskey.
2011 (true freshman):
Played in 12 games as a top back-up at wide receiver… did not play against North Carolina (Sept. 24) because of an injury).
High School:
Starr’s Mill HS… earned four varsity letters under coach Chad Phillips… caught 33 passes for 630 yards as a senior… scored three touchdowns… played wide receiver and safety for the Panthers… named second team all-state as a WR… also ran track for four years and played basketball for three seasons.
Personal:
Full name is Jeffery Quian Greene… parents are Jeff, Sr., and Zsahanna… has eight siblings — Quiyana, Jasmine, Jeffery, Jada, Kobe, Jalen, Brandon and Justin… born Sept. 10, 1992 in Atlanta… previously lived in Chicago Heights, Ill… once went on a mission to Mexico to help needy families build homes… began playing football in fifth grade.

I don’t know what is truly going on so maybe I won’t add too much. But I don’t like this, though he hadn’t done it yet I thought the kid really had a chance to go to another level with his size. But will people ask can CPJ deal with kids who are stars, maybe in his and his parents mind? We need to keep good players, oh well now they have another ship to offer.

I won’t waste my energy feeling sorry for him. He’s made his choices in life and how he interacted with his coaches sounds like the problems are on him. Even his High School coach is calling him out as being selfish. That won’t get you far in life. I hate Tech losing a “could have been” receiver because I believe that with a better QB with more passing ability we will pass more in the future. The young man has lost his chance at a degree from GT. Even his coach said it was a shame he won’t earn a degree from Tech. Go get a beastie of a DL or LB with his vacant scholarship spot!

I believe we have had a player or two recently that were no longer on the team and then came back. This situation may not be the same, but sometimes we all have to reestablish or rethink what our goals are or were. I wish Jeff the best in whatever he chooses. He certainly seems to have the physical tools to be a good wide receiver in any offense. It is the end of a difficult season and semester with the usual athletic and academic grind. If the right kind of maturity sets in, 2013 can be a special year for the Jackets. If is still a good word folks.

If Vad Lee and Justin Thomas are so good? Then whty in the h3ll is TW playing over them? TW is by far one of the worse QBS GT has seen. I could care less about that stupid rushing record that he has. Most the TD runs were from 1 yeard in. CPJ has yet to figure out that running the ball 80% of the time is not going to get you over the hump. I hate the fact that GT is top 5 rushing every year. Who cares????????? We will never win a National Championship just running the ball. And far all you guys that think CPJ is going to show more wrinkles in his O then your to stupid to be a football fan. What you see now is what your going to see next year and the year after that until he either quits or is fired. If you were a WR coming out of high school ? Would you go to Gt? Yea sometimes you do ask some retarded questions but that doesn’t give a right to be that way when he isn’t doing his job(losing). You should write an article about how bad his recruiting is! This is the best Christmas gift ever. Now I don’t have to scream at this kid from the stands for being such a pathetic football player. I told everyone around me all season the kid has no heart and no desire to play football. Totally evident on the field – no effort, no skill, no will. And now I can say I was right!.!! I am so glad to see this kid off the team as I also suspect he was toxic in the locker room. I could care less if we get 70-0 by USC since no longer having to have to watch Greene anymore is worth it. But having said that he has had zero impact on any game this season – on the contrary every throw his way was a wasted opportunity time and time again. Everyone in my section of the stadium always joked that Greene “couldn’t catch a cold”.

I never thought I would be able to say this about anyone, but Greene is worse than Stephen Hill.
Recent NFL analyst said he had never seen a worse receiver in a Jets uniform – no sh@#$%t. Did the player managers for the Jets not look at the damn GT tapes before they wasted that pick? Anyway, Greene is worse the Hil. What great news, just makes room for Autry, etc when they come back, particularly reps on the practice field for someone who WANTS to get better versus someone like Greene who clearly could have cared less.

Sadly, Georgia Tech just isn’t a Div-1 college football program anymore… Or belongs in the SunBelt or MAC-type conference.

Sometimes, there is more to the story than the story that is presented / published. Someone needs to sit down with Mr. Greene and get his side of it. Of course, the GT coaches apparently had multiple sit-downs, and things just did not click. Perhaps he was just not a good fit for the school.
Whatver the case, I think the GT football program can overcome it, and I hope Greene does too – when he gets his mind straight, and has a good successful future (in football or not).

The Green story is an old one. We produce football celebrities that come out of high school uncoachable in our state. I think that is why Georgia can’t get it passed the weak divisional and trumped up scheduling tricks to the next level and it is a huge problem at Tech. Tech had it in basketball too, kids sick of playing the game lying down on the coaches who were not that good in the first place. Lord the Middle Tenn. State game was like watching a mental institute play football at recess. The beat writer talks about skill levels and such not, they need to be writing about the character of kids getting into big time college football. Some of these kids have no business being around a college and they infect the rest of the barrel. This stuff is going to kill the game. You can’t have one conference competing and the rest of the nation recruiting normal students carrying the load. Someone needs to get in this and fix it, keep non student athletes out of college football, and this jocksniffing press should get back to being journalist not circus promoters.

gt90, you should change your name to Brenda. You are an enoch and a punk. Why don’t you go to the press conference and ask Paul Johnson the questions you coward?
Greene was handed the premiere receiver position which panned out pretty well for some other guys at that position. Greene just took a few too many dumps in his own nest and now he is gone and will be some other coach’s problem. 4.6 sec. for 40 yds. is pedestrian. Back before the feminization of the game there was a guard from Memphis who ran a 4.6.
Greene can take his show someplace where they can bow down to him. There are a handful of receivers who can do better and be grateful for the opportunity.

With all the negativity on here, it is difficult to tell the Tech fans from the trolls.
Are u paying attention or does basketball not count?
The news on the basketball program keeps getting better and better.
The problem for those fans paying attention is not to get too far ahead of ourselves.
I wanted to be sold this year on basketball though I have been a season ticket holder of both football and basketball.
I said if we beat Uga two years in a row – after having bought the Tulane/Uga package – I would buy the ACC package which I did this week.
Getting both the Poole brothers is just icing on the cake.
CPJ is going to get another year with two QBs who are more talented but not better trained in the TO than Tevin.
He cannot be fired this year with what we owe him.

Sheesh. Things are gonna be just fine at Tech! This year had its problems, but can’t we wait and see what happens with the defense this offseason? Our offense gets yardage and points. You couldn’t ask for a better young QB with an exciting backup. Special teams is no longer a liability. And now the final piece is going to come in the form of “who can turn our defense around the fastest?” We hire somebody (or keep CCK at the helm) and then we see if we don’t win more of the close games this next season. If there’s zero improvement after that, then we can make a coaching change, but Tech will still be a great Division 1 program (don’t let your perspective be thrown off by how big and shiny everything is in the SEC; there are still plenty of programs at the D1 level that would love to have our recruiting, our bowl streak, our history, our conference, our coach, etc.)

You got the pros coming in and taking the cream and we are left with players that not only can’t cut that grade but are not students either. Their highest level of existence is going to be on that campus at that moment and it will be all down hill from there. Seems to me something in high school could prevent this attitude. It could start with not being so excited when some one horse academic institute recruits you and refuse to return a call from an Ivy League school. Good riddance! I’ve seen better receivers on DII teams. The kid was extremely fortunate to have received a scholarship from the Institution. He will regret this for the rest of his life.

Let’s put in perspective here. Tech has a 20-19 record under Johnson the last three years. Tech will be 20-20 after they play USC in the bowl game. 500-Hardly a stellar accomplishment. And, this is the ACC—worse BCS conference in the nation! Any other school Johnson would be fired. This past season, Tech averaged throwing the ball 14 times a game. High School Level for sure! Tech’s Opponent’s averaged throwing the ball almost 32 times a game. Georgia by comparison averaged 26 passes per game! If you’re a receiver, why play at Tech? Put 300 lb. lineman out wide because all the receivers do is block! Might as well put a big body out there. Johnson had success early on at Tech but now every team has figured out his one dimensional offense. Johnson, Time to Go! Back to FCS!

Sarcasm AMG—come on! Baby Jackets are what the Tech JV team used to be called! Tech is JV compared to other teams—Really High School!
Check the stats—they’re accurate. Mathie, you’ll be glad to know Tech averaged running the ball about 57 times a game. What a balanced attack 57 v 14. Johnson, Time to Go! Wake up Tech, Get a real coach! What opportunities were missed this off season too!

Since when does 284 divided by 18 equal 21.8. May want to check that math again. Either the math is wrong, or he only had 13 catches.

Calculator, you must be a Tech grad? I was comparing the number of times Tech throws the ball on average per game. Georgia Tech threw the ball a total of 184 times during the season. 13 games. 184/13 = 14 average per game. Versus, running the ball 57 times per game. 745/13 = 57
Not real attractive from an offensive passing/receiving opportunity perspective to say the least. Oh, did you notice two of the teams in the semi finals of the FCS run Johnson’s type of offense! Johnson, Time to Go! Back to the FCS!

Do they really need receivers at Tech anyways? Not really necessary in that boring offense they run. Passes are generally up for grabs by anyone.

I think you guys were looking at first downs which there were 284 during the season. 184 passing attempts for approx. 14 per game average. 745 rushing attempts for approx. 57 per game average.

Greene parting ways with Tech makes no appreciable difference. It is a travesty that Tech is even playing in a bowl game with a 6-7 record. Mark Richt is 11-1 against us and it’s causing my glasses to fog up and my protractor to dig a hole in my paper.

Bilbo, that’s sort of funny but not much.
I’ve watch Greene a bit this season. He gives up on plays. My guess is he wants to be a “superstar”. He’ll get a chance at a different school. Best of luck to him.
Someone mentioned GaState, they certainly need the talent and he may not have to sit out a season.
I specifically remember him with his hands on his waist numerous times. Especially against Georgia.

The kid was huge and seemed like a big target that would give defenses problems like Thomas did getting behind safeties and catching jump balls. Not sure what happened but sorry to see a kid throw away an opportunity and it sucks for tech.

Better receivers in the pipeline. He could not adjust to the ball in flight. Some of the new guys-Audrey, etc, maybe Bostic, will be better than greene

At first I was a little perturbed when Stephen Hill did not acknowledge Tech in his player intro on a recent television broadcast, but after his continued pathetic performance during the game, I was actually grateful. It’s almost funny when they allude to CJ and Bebe and then Hill in the same sentence, as they often do. He clearly needed more time to develop, and there is little wonder the Jets are struggling, given their questionable drafting decisions.

Maybe a talented receiver like Greene wants to catch more than what 18 passes a year? Kids needs to be somewhere let’s say like Texas A&M. The Kevin Sumlins of the world can make him a household name in a real football conference. And for all you Vad Lee disciples, you’ve got a thrower…not a passer. Sometime he gets lucky and a receiver gets in the way but most of the time the ball sails into the wild blue yonder. He’ll never get coached up with PJ as HC.

Tek fans bashing their LEADING receiver. Perhaps his attitude was bad because he was stuck in a system that allowed him to catch 18 passes over the ENTIRE YEAR. 18 passes Ha some kids get that i ONE GAME.
Face the facts – you will never sign top talent at WR as long as CPJ is HC.

One tragedy of life is that we are forced to make so many important decisions in life while we are too stupid to make them. I hope Greene grows up and takes advantage of his next opportunity.
