Thomas to return for senior season

Georgia Tech safety Jemea Thomas will return for his senior season, according to a post on his Facebook account Saturday.

Thomas wrote, “to clear things up I will be at georgia tech next year because I promised my grandmother a degree now go and write about that.”

Thomas was writing, it would seem, in response to an article posted on ajc.com Friday night and printed in Saturday’s AJC. In it, Thomas declined to comment on whether or not he would submit his name to the NFL draft advisory board.

Thomas is having a standout season, leading the team with four interceptions.

I’m glad. It will be nice to see some senior leadership with a new DC. Plus Thomas is one of the bright spots on defense and fun to watch.

Good choice young man…….you guys have a great chance to be great next year, but you guys need to work harder. When I grow up I want to be Bacarri Rambo, because he is the baseline for DB’s in this state. It is what it is, just sayin, but the dude is good……I mean great. Do the same?????

Excellent news Jemea, now go convince Sneezy to come back and help you bring the ACC championship trophy back to the Flats. And get in Kallon’s, Gamble’s & Gotsis’s face and tell them they will be the guys to make it happen next year!

JT, Tech needs players like you. CPJ gets them by making the Best Choice of hs recruits. Your decision will do Favors for Tech next year. Your 4 interceptions this year were reminiscent of the three Jeff Ford made around ‘71-72 when he led the nation in intereptions. I recall Jeff making them at BD, running up from behind the receiver and snatching the pass as if it was bein thrown to him. Your int in FSU game was outstanding.

was “being” thrown to him; look, can you get this flickering cursor off of this article, it’s interfering with typing a letter to a Tech student from a Tech grad; it’s fickering and eager to jam typing

Jamea: A smart personal decision. Get your degree.
As far as football is concerned, another smart decision. Have a good senior year at
GT and you could go up several rounds in the NFL draft. Also, maybe you will get more help from your team mates who play in front of you. Then you won`t have to make 80 plus tackles next year!

Good call Jemea. I respect your decision to honor your promise to your Grandmother. It’s so much harder to return to school later and complete a degree. The NFL is not going anywhere and your stock will only improve while you are getting your degree and enjoying your senior year. GO JACKETS!!!

That is great news. We surely need all the help we can get on the defensive side of the ball. I hope that a year’s experience will make the unit stronger next year. We have to be able to stop someone every now and then.

@Jemea, smart decision. If you’re not going to be a first rounder, you’re generally better off staying in school. Glad to see you honor a promise in the face of money. That Tech degree will take you places in your 30s, 40s, and 50s that your body won’t anymore.

Jemea will be one of the top safeties in the ACC next year. Also if Attaochu returns (fingers crossed) we’ll have hands-down the best linebackers corps in the conference next year, with Watts, Hunt-Days, & Nealy. Most of Miami’s and FSU’s top linebackers will graduate or leave for the NFL this season. Really hope Fred Holton is 100% next season. He’s the best defensive back we have… should have started from last season onwards, like Nealy, but injuries did him in.

Groh recruited and coached our LBs and DBs well. It’s just that he couldn’t bring the DL’s we needed, and his scheme was a little too complicated for hurry-up/spread offenses. Missed zone reads and blown assignments all over the place, in addition to poor tackling and no pass rush. I like the 3-4 better than Wommack’s 4-3 (just been reviewing defensive film from 08-09), and it’s not as good as some people here purport it to be. It was heavily reliant on individual brilliance and athleticism of D. Morgan, M. Burnett, V. Walker, J. Tarrant, etc.

If do right….,

08 DL was Johnson (Sr), Richards (Sr), Walker (Sr) & Morgan (So)…with DB Burnett
09 DL was only Morgan (Jr) with Burnett & Tarrant DBs.

The selfish fan in me wants every kid to stay throughout his eligibility since GT doesn’t have the depth to withstand guys leaving early for the NFL: Morgan, Tarrant, Burnett, Hill, Bebe, Dwyer, Claytor. Not to mention the BAD decision it was for Tarrant & Claytor (and to this point, Hill).

But if I’m a 20-22 yr old with NFL $ staring at me, that would be a heckuva tough decision to stay in school.

Both Jemea and his grandmother are quality people. She did a good job with all four of her grandsons. They also were smart enough to listen to her and take advantage of their opportunities. My guess is that he is gonna graduate and play in the league. Some credit for both should go to Tech DB Coach Charles Kelly. He represents the good part of college football.

Smart move Jemea and congratulations on getting the degree! Whether you make it in the bigs, or not, you will always have the degree to take care of you and your family.

Now for DL and OL recruits. Why are we not going for some JC recruits like UGA is doing? Rock Perdoni was a JC recruit as I recall and a heck of a good find for Tech.

Seems we could get some folks that could immediately deliver pressure on opposing QB’s which would help out our DB’s from having to make so many tackles, and provide Jemea and his teammates opportunities for even more interceptions.

If CPJ has 2 more slots to fill, then he should consider finding a really good JC DL and or OL.

Wish uga would have kept Stafford and Durham another year or two ..yeayea I know theybwere Sr.s..Stafford couldnt hit a mule in the ass with a bass fiddle and Durham can’t even run the right route much less catch the darn ball for god sakes…C.Johnson has to turn inside out to catch Staffords passes. The is no doubt Calvin is and will be the greatest wide out of all time in the NFL with D.Thomas not far behind.Thank you GT for an Incredible WR and human being ..Megatron has it all?.As for uga well ..avg to good college players but PROS? ..ain’t getting it…btw That DB from GT on the Packers ..Burnett……is a hell of a player

Smart move! First, keep that family promise and honor Grandma. Second, good player can get better and enhance status for the next level. Third, good move to set up long tern, future worth (and wealth) than to go for tempting dollars now, assuming signed and sticking with a team when training camp breaks, and be out of the league in 3 or 4 years,

Passing up those Arena League big bucks definitely shows a lot of wisdom and maturity. There is no doubt about that. This guy will be a terror in the ACC next year. Virginia and Duke better watch out.

Thanks.
