Guard Omoregie Uzzi was the lone Georgia Tech player on the first-ever coaches All-ACC team, released Wednesday.
Uzzi was also the lone Yellow Jacket on the media All-ACC team. On the coaches’ team, he received 14 out of a possible 22 points. The 12 coaches were allowed to vote for two players at each position, two points for first team and one point for second team. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
The selections were similar to the media All-ACC team. The player of the year (Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd), offensive player of the year (Boyd), defensive player of the year (Florida State defensive end Bjoern Werner) and coach of the year (Duke’s David Cutcliffe) were all the same.
Tech players receiving honorable mention status were outside linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu, nose tackle T.J. Barnes, center Jay Finch, specialist Jamal Golden and A-back Orwin Smith. Coach Paul Johnson received one point in the balloting for coach of the year. Quarterback Vad Lee received one point in voting for offensive rookie of the year.

We ain’t Bammer or Georgie or any other football factory & never will be, nor should Tech ever aspire to be so low (y’all know I what I mean, so don’t give me any lip). As long as the SEC stays so high up in the pecking order, recruiting for Tech will be even tougher than before the SEC became king of the mountain. As if recruiting at Tech was ever easy. Opposing coaches after the same kids as Tech dropping a calculus book in front of a kid and saying “you wanna take this”? And this really did happen. Give me a break.

1 4, no use trying to use facts on folks that like thheir own opinions better-fact-ncaa cracking down harder on their grad rate, which is arbitrary & across the board, not allowing for the idiosyncracies of it’s member, in effect trying to legislate total academic change, tho’ they have no legislative power-hence cph could have fired for poor rates, & ucon got hammered this year……

For reference,a list GT’s recruting class rankings with in the ACC, per Rivals/Yahoo. Gaily had One good year, otherwise CPJ’s classes were marginally better, but sitll in the bottom half. There is nothing new about GT not getting top recruiting classes.

Hey Tech folks,
Just curious, with no hidden agenda…..do you guys like the option, or would you prefer to go to a pro style offense? Like I said, not trying to bait anyone, just want to get the opinion of the committed Tech faithful?

@sansworld, “wonder who gave CPJ a vote for coach of the year?”
Paul Johnson probably voted for himself.

Bali,
I like the option but would like to see it more balanced with a passing attack, especially higher percentage short yardage ones. Used to enjoy what Friedgen brought to the offense. He would try all types of plays. More interested in Tech getting their defense to an average level which would help them win more.

BTW- congats to Uzzi. As far as recruiting goes Tech needs to find a way to create a better atmosphere at the stadium (more bodies in the seats) if they want to attract better talent. I have been a fan for over 30 years and have not seen the base grow one bit. Oregon has successfully built a fan base by fielding an exciting team and making it appealing to recruits. That being said I think Coach Gregory has the strategy to bring Tech basketball exciting again.

Scott …
GT sellouts has, as long as I can remember and I’m in my 40s, been a tough endeavor. Very weird being that the City of Atlanta & surrounding counties certainly have the population to fill 55,000 seats on 6 days/nights between late Aug – Dec.
And in the odd #’d years, when the home schedule is much more appealing, it’s kind of a bummer when there is a sellout that it’s b/c the opponent’s (Clemson or UGA) fans are buying more seats than GT supports should allow. By that I mean people like GT Joe who rant & rave on the GT blogs about the team/players then brags about never going to games b/c he’s lazy.
Sad as heck that there are many GT fans within 30-45 minute drive of BDS – A beautiful college football setting – that sit on their arses at home instead cheering on the team, in person! And if they don’t want to drive into the scary, crime-filled, big city there’s always Marta.

Ken,
Any word on a new defensive coordinator? Would love to see Chizik. Perhaps even Ron Zook. Someone who specialized in defense who is also a great recruiter. We need some schemes and some athletes!
