Udofia’s status not yet determined

Georgia Tech guard Mfon Udofia will probably be a game-time decision for Tuesday night’s game against Georgia, coach Brian Gregory said.

Udofia sprained his ankle in the Yellow Jackets’ loss to Illinois last Wednesday. Gregory said Udofia would be evaluated at Monday’s practice, Udofia’s first since the injury. If Udofia can’t play, Pierre Jordan would start in his place at point guard. It would be just the second start of the senior’s career.

As Tech’s point guard, Udofia is probably the Jackets’ most indispensable player. He leads the team in minutes (30.7 per game) and is shooting 54.8 percent from the floor.

Asked if Udofia would start if the game were Monday, Gregory responded, “Knowing Mfon, I’d say he’d make a go of it.”

Just got back to Virginia from the football game. Tech showed well, especially in the second half. Team should be good next year. Ken, keep us informed on the defensive coach – a key to winning in 2013. But we keep most of our players, and if we can play like we did in the second half next year, hopefully another trip to Charlotte then on to Miami.

I wonder who will play the point besides Jordan if Udofia can’t go. We will miss Udofia’s defense Tuesday night, among the many other things he contributes.

Supersize, sorry about that. First time first, but no problem if you ask Ken to reverse the two posts.

Not a real important game – (sorry anti-dog fans), but rather keep him healthy for the real season.

As Liz Black said at the game, uga can’t spell, big ten can’t count, go acc!

I like what I have seen this year from our bball team. Not hotel hewit and the players seem to really like each other and want to play team ball.

This would make the chances of a Tech win slim. Fox has a good squad. Like Tech they are learning to play together.

@Jim 70
Maybe it is not a real important game to you but it is to me.
It also may determine whether I show up for the rest of the season as I bought the Tulane/Georgia package.
U live in Virginia.
No wonder u think that.

collegeballfan, Georgia is pretty weak this year. I mean really weak. If we can get the ball inside to our bigs, we should be in good shape.

I like how GT bball is playing. They play HARD! This is what we saw in Hewitt’s first couple years. Gregory seems to not only restored that ethic, but instilled it. Don’t see the poise of a perennial program (hate to say it) like Duke or KY. That looks like coaching there…no key formations or play style to close a game or “decay” to when they get rattled. That said, much improved! Fundamentals are taught. Box out is back (finally)! Defense spurs O and transition. They will clobber lesser teams. They won’t out shoot anyone.

I’m very curious to see what they look like in 10 games. Will the fundemental fire be there or will they fizzle? Will they rise and get better?
Go Jackets!!

Looking forward to Tuesday night. I too like what I see in terms of energy, direction, fundamentals, playing together and unselfish basketball. Really took the game to a very good Illinois team. Lets fill up the house Jacket fans!

@ GT-UT……the season is young, and so is much of the team. That “poise of a perennial program” may yet come, and I think it will.

Yes, understand the rivalry, probably bad choice of word. Rather see acc wins, especially against the vt’s and uva’s, but every win is important to us this year.

Watch the student section turnout tonight for the basketball game. Its finals week, its Tuesday, its a game that has not been hyped, and quite frankly…Tech students have turned their backs on the basketball program for several years now. If they can’t get fired up for a home game against a UGA team, what will they get fired up for?

Advice for Ironhead’s son.
No pickup games this offseason.
This could have been a great opportunity for you tonight.
But you have years left so I’m pulling for you to come back stronger.
