I have supported CPJ all season long and love watching this offense when it is ‘hot’.
But I am through with watching this under-coached team. Lack of coaching on defense and special teams is disturbing, lack of talent is obvious, and the offense is embarrassing when it gets stuffed.
Time for a change, folks. Let’s get rid of the entire staff and get a breath of fresh air.

you can just tell these players are out manned. its not like there are that many plays to call with the option. if PJ can’t get the proper recruits for his style offense then we need to get him out. I have full faith that his offense can work if the right players are there.

I think we’ll see that TW is not the problem. Honestly, I don’t expect Vad to perform any better. Ultimately, we need to see better blocking than we’ve seen so far, both from the O-line and from the receivers. I don’t care whether you’re running a triple-option offense or a pro-style, it won’t work without good blocking.

GTJohn, its all ready been confirmed that GT is not going to the Big10. Maybe we should have at least kept Groh for the rest of the season, the D might actually be a little better. Like I said above, with the option offense there are not many plays to run, you can tell we just don’t have the proper players for blocking and QB right now

From what we’ve seen so far, the ‘Noles defense seems to be the best-coached squad we’ve faced in a long, long time. They are staying with their assignments and literally covering all the options. GT gained only 45 yards on the ground in the first quarter, with no yards gained through the air.

Our D is just terrible. I don’t think they could stop them with 14 players. Our spacing is terrible. Our LB’s are lost and the D line is blown off the ball.
I just don’t understand why we haven’t seen any improvement.

We need a d. coordinator that can get most of talent (or lack there of) and can recruit (since the current group is not doing a good job). Johnson is going to have to throw in some wrinkles or something because the offense is gooing no where (well besides the last pass).

Without a defense Tech will never be competitive. Johnson should know this. Is he so in love with his offense that he would sacrifice the entire team to prove that he can move the football on offense? Time to grow up Paul, you are in the big leagues now, be a complete football coach and leave the offense to someone else. Ga. Southern and Navy is in the past. Mature or loose your job.

This has been our other significant challenge through the year, scoring touchdowns in the red zone rather than kicking field goals. Oh well, at least the offense picked up a few first downs and put some points on the board. If they can hold FSU scoreless, and then do that five more times, we’ll have a 15-14 lead! LOL

This offense works In the Southern conference type team. When challenged by athletically gifted teams , it’s scored 6 meaningful points in the past 6 in the previous 6 quarters of football.Again this is Men against boys.

Johnson needs to be fired at half time. Enough is enough.. This is the most painful GT team I’ve ever watched and I’ve seen some bad ones. Tevin Washington playing in any game is a fireable offense. Vad marched us down the field and CPJ brings Twinkle Toes Tevin back in the game. We aren’t even competitive- not sure how we even beat Duke. No talent, no gameplan, no hope. This Tech fan is sick and tired of being sick and tired. Fire CPJ. I’ve never seen this little fan support with Tech football. Not to say we have a rabid fanbase at all- but our fanbase has never hid their heads in the sand like we are right now. Vad Lee should transfer after being humiliated by CPJ having to play behind Twinkle Toes Tevin. My 9 year old throws a better ball than he does.. I’ve said it all year- playing Tevin over Vad is a fireable offense. And he keeps doing it- something tells me he just does it because he wants everyone to know he can do whatever the heck he wants. GT needs to stop talking about ACC or Big10 and needs to consider the WAC or Mountain West if we plan to keep CPJ around. And we wouldn’t fare well in those leagues either.. The triple option is dead.

PJ’s offense sucks. It put-up no touchdowns and just 157 (!) yards against BYU. It put-up no toughdowns in over three quarters against UGA. Special teams are a disaster, the defense is a disaster, jeez – what will it take to get some folks to pull their heads out of the sand?

I keep hearing he is going to be given another year and we can’t afford to fire him. I’m not sure how we can afford to keep him! The fanbase is at an all time low that I’ve never seen in my life. We will lose a fortune in ticket sales next year. Somebody from the AJC needs to grow a pair and look at the financials for GT football- ticket sales, jerseys, clothes, etc. I guarantee you it will be at an all time low. The fanbase and ex-players have jumped ship.

Johnson’s done NOTHING to warrant another year. No win over UGA since 2008, no win over VT since 2009, a vacated ACC Championship, no bowl wins, two losing seasons in three years, etc. Fire him and let him go coach in some capacity at a junk level SEC, ACC, MAC, or Sun Belt school. Exactly in 09 we had the ACC championship, have had huge games against Clemson, and big upsets against Florida State and Virginia Tech. Those games showed that PJs offense can work, but right now its hard to say. His offense has worked well in the past, but is it possible to turn things around and get the proper players again?

Wow! Just checked out the score of the B1G championship game. The Badgers, who finished the season 4-4 in the conference are leading 42-10 at the half. If WE can win the second half in similar fashion, then we’ll be off to the Orange Bowl next month.

I agree Coach Z, but everyone mentions the poor defensive back play(See UGA game), But no one mentions how bad the linebacker play is. And, we are trying to run a 3-4 with these guys…what a joke. Poor coaching is not only teaching bad schemes, but its also not using your personel the right way. No way we should be running the 3-4 with this poor talent level.

If do right, its not about a football factory, its about doing the right things with what you got. CPJ doesnt understand that. I don’t care if we loose, I care that we aren’t doing anything right. Getting off blocks, running the B-back, traing our WR to do more like run routes and work on footwork than blocking. If you look back at GT last possesion inside the 10 our WR was picking daisy and FSU CB came back and helped make the stop. I’m just fed up of poor play calling! Just listen to Herbstreet, he speaks eloquently of what I hate most about GT football.

Time to run the A-back option pass with Days—they are crashing on the pitch man—even for toss sweeps. Need to throw more—they are daring us to do so. Time to put in Vad. The dive still works so dive and play action.
After watching UGA and Alabama the talent differential is stark between SEC and ACC. There is a lot of work to be done to get ACC play up to speed.

If CPJ never develops the air game, he’ll never win big again at this level. Teams NEVER have to think about anything but the run, therefore they can commit 1 or 2 extra players to defensing the runs around the end.

At WillGT, agreed… firing up your personel is necessary in College Football, again I note the SEC title game. Vad tries, but I feel like the players he is talking to are more concerned about the triganometry exam or some type of aerospace study they need to accompolish.

I disagree with those who have questioned the talent of the team. We have made adjustments and are now playing better on both sides of the ball. However, the difference in coaching and/or execution really shows up in the red zone. If you look at the scoreboard, it’s simply a difference between touchdowns and field goals. Each team has scored three times, and yet we trail by 12. Some of that may be attributed to play-calling, and some may be blamed on poor execution. It bothers me that a team that prides itself on its ability to run the ball can’t seem to gain any ground once they cross the opponents’ 20.

The team showed more heart in the 2nd half than they have all year. The D knocked some jocks off the FS players and delivered some pain. I’m so proud of Tech for not laying down when the score was 21-3. Great job guys.

The defense was the only reason we had a chance in this game, neither Vad nor Tevin did anything to improve our chances. I don’t know what you guy’s were smoking to think Vad could accomplish anything tonight, he had one 42 yard pass play and that’s it. Likewise Tevin led us to our only TD drive so neither played well at all.
I tip my hat off to the defense who played one of the best halves I have seen any team play. Our offense was given chance after chance and they blew it.

Dawg1 — there’s little to nothing to be proud OF. FSU nearly choked away another game just like they did last week against an even worse offense. @TechLB – we’ve got to expect more than just competing. Close losses are still losses. No idea why the QB who can throw was sitting at the end. The floater for an INT was just a matter of time. TW has great heart and character, but this isn’t Upward football.

I really don’t even care for a bowl game at this point. If they win, they win, but it would be a fluke one at that. This offseason there will need to be a lot of improving. I’m really doubting Tech will fire PJ this season. Hopefully we get a decent D coordinator and Vlad can step it up. I don’t blame PJ for not putting him in at the end, he is a freshman with little experience under this kind of pressure

Johnson may want to think about using those sessions to get Lee ready for next season.
Same for some OL types.
Johnson let himself get caught for 2 seasons without an adequate QB. That goes back to recruiting. Of course, Gailey went 4 years without an adequate QB. And Richt went through the same problem at UGA a few seasons ago.

Overall, not a bad effort. Much better effort in the 3rd quarter when players relaized we actually had chance to win. Possibly different outcome if defense played with same intensity in 1st half. Still much better defense in 2nd half of year than 1st after Charles Kelly took over. I’m not really sure why so many have maligned special teams. Much better than last year. No, field goals have been a inconsistent, but I don’t know how anyone can say special teams are not better this year than last. I’m less enthralled with Johnson’s “genious” on offense. I realize he coaches to his player’s abilities, but there really seems to be a lot of predictability to his play calling even when you’re expecting him to keep it on the ground. Much better play calling tonight on the run game tonight exploiting some weaknesses in FSU’s defense. Tevin runs the option well, but his passing mechanics are worse than Tebows – it almost seems like he’s trying to throw a dart instead of a football. I’m looking forward to seeing Vad run the offense next year.

OK, here’s my final takeaway from this game:
Why we came up short:
1. Did not rush for 250+ yards (183): Like it or not, it’s our bread and butter. Smith’s absence on the outside really hurt us in the pitch game, and boy those fsu linebackers are fast.
2. Very poor run defense, especially in the 1st half: It took away the time we needed to complete the comeback properly.
3. Washington’s curse: Going back to the VT game in 2010, that’s 6 games that we should have come back and won in the waning seconds that TW threw away. He’s not the clutch-play guy, obviously. And horrible passing by him all game, missing too many open guys, especially Godhigh. Seriously, we need to use the extra practices for the bowl game to get Vad Lee/Synjyn Days ready full time. Enough with the rotation.
4. fsu won the trench battle on both sides of the ball. We don’t have the athletes to man the lines against big-time football teams.
What we can use as positives from this game to get a bowl win.
1. Defense, in the 2nd half. Best half from them I’ve seen all season. Jemea Thomas, TJ Barnes, Attaochu, Watts, Cummings, Sweeting… it was a real intense effort from them.
2. Special Teams: 3/3 FGs, acceptable KO/PR coverage, and no blunders. Honestly, you can’t ask for more from these young guys.
3. Penalties cut down as the game progressed. People don’t realize how important that is, but cutting down on mistakes on a team with a small margin of error like us really helps.
4. David Sims. I really think he will be a solid FB next year as a senior. He really blocks well and runs hard.

2. Very poor run defense, especially in the 1st half: It took away the time we needed to complete the comeback properly.

While this holds true in the 1st half, they completely destroyed FSU in the 2nd half. Even the one long drive FSU had at the end they took the ball away with a timely fumble. That’s not luck, that is the defense knowing the game is on the line getting in the backfield and knocking the ball loose.
The offense settled for a FG possession after possession. Gt forces a turnover Days throws an interception the next play and the D is back on the field but yet they come up with a stop. Even with the poor play in the 1st half the Offense were given more than enough opportunities to put up more than 21 points to beat FSU in the second half but they didn’t do it.
The only reason we had a chance this game was because of the defense.

@ibidGT agree with you there. just watching replays of the 2nd half, and we were pretty stingy on the run D. Very timely turnovers, it’s just our offense sputtered.

I don’t really think CPJ is going anywhere for at least another year. I agree that he needs to evolve the offense to have any chance of recruiting top talent. We can’t recruit top specialty players, namely in the QB and receiver positions, if they don’t think it’s going to highlight their talents to play at the next level. BTW, I agreed with the coach to give Tevin the most playing time this year. Vad is obviously the better passer, but he faltered at times running the offense. I’ve heard good things about Charles Kelly. I also thought the defense played better ball when he took over, but our ability to stop teams on 3rd down and the number of missed tackles makes me think he might need a few more years at assistant. I think CPJ needs another QB/Receivers coach. He tries to do too much on his own. Trying to maintain too much control makes a team dysfunctional and I think that may be the problem with the GT coaching staff. CPJ, it’s time to ask for some more help on offense.

It’s time for every Tech fan to put some money into the collection plate so we can pay CPJ’s buyout. Otherwise, we’re gonna be stuck with this mess for years to come.

GT is likely to lose their 8th straight bowl game,(5 straight for CPJ.)S.CAL. in the SUN BOWL would be a definite loss,especially if M.Barkley plays.CPJ is bad in big games ,and TW can’t make big plays at crunch time.
