Report: Tech to be granted bowl waiver
Georgia Tech will receive a bowl-eligibility waiver from the NCAA even if it loses the ACC Championship game to finish at 6-7, according to a cbssports.com report.
The story cited two unnamed sources. Tech, ACC and bowl officials could not confirm the report. Without directly commenting on the news, acting athletic director Paul Griffin reaffirmed his confidence in Tech’s situation, reiterating a comment made Monday.
“We’ll be playing in an ACC bowl game between the 27th of December and the first of January,” he said. “We’re going to make sure we do everything we can to make sure that it’s the Orange Bowl.”
With a new NCAA rule in place addressing bowl eligibility, concerns arose that Tech might not be bowl eligible if it lost to Florida State to drop below .500, a standard to receive a bowl invite, even though UCLA received a waiver last year in a similar situation. If the Yellow Jackets were not granted a waiver, it would have put them in a situation of needing to win the title game to go to the Orange Bowl or be shut out of the bowl picture altogether. Griffin and other Tech officials maintained their certainty that they would be playing in a bowl regardless. It appears they had reason.

Well now we know now who is calling the shots. The same people that do not want to keep score in league sports. Pour Tech was complaining about not getting in a bowl game so tech uses a technicality to get them in a bottom bowl game. Tech is the Joke by the Coke!

A sad day in college sports.The one good thing about this season is that it ends the practice of Tech fans being able to say that Georgia backed into anything.I’d rather see Tech lose to FSU than get embarassed by a MAC team in the Orange Bowl which could very well happen.

I’m a Tech fan, but this is lame. No schools with losing records should go to bowls. Just the fact that we’re in the ACC Championship is crazy. We don’t belong in it. Dickakovich is gone; time to clean up the mess he left behind.

it is quite comical to see all the Techie comments congratulating the team on going to a bowl at 6-7. And how they deserve it and the kids have earned it…..wow. What about the guys on teams finishing with 5 wins…they probably worked just as hard…do they not “deserve” a bowl? I thought participation trophies stopped in rec league ball but apparently not….. However, on second thought…the ACC is similar to rec ball so maybe it is ok ! Maybe you can petition the NCAA to make the other team not keep score so all the players will feel good about themselves…and I think they should get rings as well to celebrate their hard work…..

The question now becomes what bowl is going to take this clown show? It seems Tech wears out its welcome every where it goes with poor showings on the field and poor showings at the ticket booth. I don’t know if a bowl game exists that is desperate enough to take these losers.

I heard AAron’s will have a tv ready for you, so that when you throw an empty Zima bottle thru it after the Bama game (like you did after the USCe game) you can go rent it. maybe im missing them but i have seen very few comments on here from Dawg fans about Tech going to a bowl game. They need to get over it and realize that we are concentrating on our SECCG and dont really care where Tech goes. What i have seen comments on is this, if you go to a bowl game then go and support your team.

I actually pull for you guys outside of our matchup and grew up liking both schools. Went to UGA though so that steered my alliance in a certain direction. Would love to see both teams win Saturday and I know we are both big underdogs but it would be sweet.
