Johnson: ‘Lack of competing’ in loss to UGA
Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson said he could have handled losing 42-10 to Georgia if he thought the effort was worthy. That was not the case.
Johnson said the Yellow Jackets were guilty of a “lack of competing” in their loss to the Bulldogs in Athens, Tech’s 11th in the past 12 years to its archrival. This season, Johnson has been critical of the team for missed assignments, poor tackling and lack of focus. However, his public challenge that the team lacked competitiveness – against an archrival, no less – compared only to his statement that the Jackets “no showed” in the 21-point loss to Middle Tennessee State. While hardly palatable to Johnson, the MTSU effort could be more understandable, given that Tech was facing a team it had blown out in each of the past two years and was seven days removed from an emotionally crushing overtime loss to Miami.
“You’ve got to play hard,” Johnson said. “You’ve got to sell out.”
From watching the game video, Johnson said coaches handed out “a lot” of efforts – demerits for not giving full effort on a play. Johnson said the offense, defense and special teams were all at fault. He did say B-back David Sims played perhaps as hard as Johnson had ever seen him play. But overall, he was confounded by what he saw from players in one of the biggest games of the year, if not the biggest.
“You get beat in life, you get beat in sports,” Johnson said. “Sometimes that happens. But what you want to do is give it your best effort and you want to compete from start to finish.”

Sorry, but if you are going to continue pretending to be some chummy I love everyone kind of person when you have shown in the past that you are UGA troll to the highest degree then I am going to call you out on it. Quit being a stealth troll and become a real troll again. It would actually raise most peoples amount of respect for you? And also, no. Richt wouldn’t have any chance at all of recruiting well at GT.

It is hard for GTBob to fathom that some folks want Tech to do okay except against us.
I know there are a few. DawginLex isn’t one of them. Most of the people on here are just pretending to care because they feel sorry for Tech fans for some reason. Personally I would rather you hate us all the time then come on here days after a beat down and tell us how much you love us.

You need to focus on what ya’ll can do to improve! I do not care if you had to have a PERFECT SAT score and a 4.0 GPA to ge into Tech……ya’ll could STILL do better than what you are doing. I think some folks who take pride in all Georgia (the state) athletics do not want Tech embarrasing their school, their families, their state, and their pets as well. If anybody watched ya’ll this year (and I did) you saw more than a down year. You saw a program w/o definition, poor coaching, a lack of overall talent surpassed only by a quiitter’s mentality, and a stadium with less folks in it than the skunk cage at Grant Zoo! Yes, real sports fans want better for ya’ll. Tech has done better in the past, and while they may or may not dominate again, they can certainly do better than the cluster that is presently called Georgia Tech football! The truth is, you know it, too. You would just rather be a snot-rag than offer real football conversation and help your team as well.

I have had plenty of discussion for years about how Tech can improve. What im not going to do is get into a conversation with a UGA fan who is pretending to care because of supposed “state pride”. That statemtent is not true. VT has been very successful under Frank Beamer..however they only had 8 or more wins in a season 8 times in 85 years..that is not a program with a histoy..
FSUwas very successful under Bowden but only had (2) 8 win season in school history 1978..not a storied history

By the way..Frank Beamer was 24-37 in his first 6 years as HC at VT

I’m not going to say I love Tech and let’s sing kumbaya. I was trying to talk football. Just because you and Bobby get easily offended by trash talking is not my problem. If Paul Johnson had any sense, he would offer Giff Smith a good package to leave Buffalo and come back to the flats. Smith can recruit and would be a good Coach that could build a new Defense. It might take two seasons to see a lot of improvement but anything is beter than what we have.

THere is plenty wrong at Tech but it can be turned aroud..look at your beloved Dawgs..everyone was read to fire CMR after the USC game..fire him during the season..same old CMR..well things have sure changed thoughts of CMR in the last 2 months..
Does Tech have problems..yes they do..however, I don’t think jumping ship on the entire coaching staff is the right thing to do..do we need to make changes..why sure we do..I dont think dumping the entire staff is the right thing to do yet

old dog, I wouldn’t say satisfied. It certainly wasn’t a good year and we have significant defensive problems. It can and probably will get better with CPJ though. We have significant changes coming next year that should help. My only problem with Tech fans right now is that they consider a 6-6 season and horrible season unlike ever seen before. Everyone should be fired and the program should completely start over. It makes me wonder how long they have been Tech fans and what leads them to think 10-2 should be the norm for us.

I’ve been a Tech fan for a long time and honestly this is about the lowest ebb I can remember. We got thumped at home by Middle Tenn, we fired a coach in the middle of the season , UGA really didn’t even work up a sweat against us and our leader says we didn’t play hard against the 1 team we should be foaming at the mouth to play.I wish the season was over and I bet the team does as well. We are gonna get killed bt FSU and then probably lose some kind of weak ass bowl game.The buck needs to stop at the feet of Paul Johnson

It is the epitome of a pathetic, hapless program to seek a “Bowl Waiver” at 6-6 because there is the very real probability that the team (which doesn’t even legitimately belong in the championship game but for Miami’s recognition of pending sanctions) will get crushed in the ACC (Almost Competitive Conference) Championship game. Tech has no pride and deserves no respect.

Try this one: The fans know it, and maybe the players also know it. Sometimes a coach has it in his mind to do his thing regardless of the outcome or feelings of the players and fans.
It appears Paul Johnson is hardheaded and determined to do things his way even if they no longer work. It is also possible there are players on the team that are better than others, but they sit on the bench (example: Lee). Sometimes the players get as angry about this as do the fans. It is a no-brainer that Lee is a better quarterback than Washington. The fans are upset that the best quarterback is sitting on the bench while Washington is getting most of the playing time just so he can pad his statistics.
I suspect the players also are upset about this. There may be more than Lee that are better players than some of the starters, but are not playing because they are not in sync with PJ. It could be that some of the players have a ho-hum attitude toward Paul Johnson and his demeanor and hope he is given the boot. I suspect this is also Auburn’s problem with Chizik. It happens at many places when a coach is seen as being unfair with certain players, and it sometimes happens when players are fed up with a coache’s attitude toward the team.

I too have basically been in absentia for a day two except for a couple of smart azz comments late night. Y’all all, both sides, do know that the people that have the means ($$$) and the power to force any changes are, in all probability, not on this blog expressing their views to us, don’t you. This is all just mindless chatter to those folks. As for GTBob’s comments regarding some of the Georgie guys comments, I sorta agree with him. I see posts from guys that have posted typical, dwag trashy comments in the past making nice now & I have to wonder at their true intent. Then there are a few like old dog that have never posted any of the standard dwag fare, but seem to be truly desirous of GT getting our program on a more competitive level. I don’t really trust this & take it with a grain of salt, & maybe pepper too. Then there are guys like Rick James that claim to drive Bentley’s & own a mega bunch of fast food franchises or some such. Well, I can say I own a 2011 ZR1 ‘Vette, a 2012 Silverado, a $60.000 2012 Skeeter Bass Boat and 2 acres of lakefront property with a nice 4 bedroom/3 bath house & a the biggest dock & seawall allowed. But, that might be bragging; it might or might not be truth (all or in part). Y’all have no way of knowing, just like I have no way of knowing if Rick is truthful & don’t even care. All I know is this. The guys I mentioned above that have the ability to force changes are right. This is all just mindless chatter. Ain’t nobody here gonna force any changes. I think some of the dwag well wishers are truthful, some are blowing smoke. I just know I cannot be that magnanimous. Just saying. Selah.

Sorry to hear about his passing. Didn’t converse much with him but that matters not. Regardless of the colors you wear, the team you cheer for, the state you live in or political or other affiliations, life is an absolute gift. It’s precious. And if we keep things in perspective, we realize after all the debating and bickering are done, that there are more important things out there. My prayers to his family and friends. It’s hard now (still hard for me as I type this), but you will get through.
