Live blog: It’s Tech-Georgia

Whatever Georgia Tech’s chances were coming into Saturday’s game against No. 3 Georgia, the Yellow Jackets’ chances took a direct hit with A-back Orwin Smith sideline with an ankle injury suffered in the second half of last week’s win over Duke.

A couple thoughts

This is going to be a tough, tough climb. As I noted in a couple stories, I think it’ll take a near-perfect game for Tech and then a couple breaks on top of that. Georgia isn’t unbeatable, but the Jackets haven’t faced an offense like this since Clemson. The second-half run has been built on teams with mostly ineffective offenses.

Boston College (98), BYU (65), Maryland (120), North Carolina (17), Duke (87). Georgia is No. 25.

Similarly, the Tech is definitely improved offensively, but, again, Georgia will be a different kind of test.

Boston College (104), BYU (No.3), Maryland (No. 15), North Carolina (No. 55) and Duke (No. 95). Georgia is No. 20.

That said, I think Tech’s got a chance. The team is confident and, regardless of opponent, is playing well. I think it means something that Johnson said the offensive line is playing the best he’s seen in his tenure. Tech will have to win this game on the linemen’s backs, I think.

It might be oversimplifying, but Tech needs to get ahead early, control the ball and get some stops.

Enjoy the game.

I understand why all military college football programs run 3 option. But Tech can get the talent to compete, they have n the past.

@GTJohn

I agree with an earlier comment that PJ should fire himself. If he has any character at all, he would realize that he is in over his head and needs to hand the reins over to someone else who can get the job done. I am sure PJ is a good person, just not a coach at this level at this time in his career. The TO has done all it can for him and he needs to go help somewhere else and learn a new offense.
——————————————————————————————————————————-
He will not quit because he knows that this his last major coaching job. After Tech it’s a mid major or FCS school and neither will pay what he makes at Tech..

PJ has a better team than he puts on the field. He had S. Hill and rarely used him. He has some good talent now but does not develop or use it. Vad is a perfect example but there are others also. If he rolls out the TO next year, no on will be there to watch it. With Vad Lee, we need to be runing a West Coast type of offense and if he does not know how to do it, then hire someone who does or get out of the way.

One thing to lose and make a game of it…but this is pathetic. Even the UGA fans sitting next to me left at halftime at the bar I was at…sheesh.

There it is. Tech is diving at our knees trying to take guys out. It never fails year after year.

Rick, I am counting on him having some character. If not, season ticket holders will become a rarity at GT and that will definitely end his future forever. He will never coach again, It takes a big person to admit they are wrong, need help, over their head, and I hope PJ is a big enough person to come to that realization and move on.

Tech fans deserve better but CPJ the smartest guy in the room and those personality types never quit because everyone else is wrong.

I’m loving the comments from BigTimeTechFan… All about the zebras in this game.. none about the lackluster play on offense or the fact that GT’s defense stayed at the bus stop on North Ave. I’m at home brewing some beer right now, you sound like you’ve drank all of yours this afternoon with the crying. Tech didn’t have a chance.. the only chance was coming out amp’d for a rival game. They proved they didn’t care after the 1st 3 drives.

CPJ has no change in scheme, and it doesn’t work against good teams.. Look at the game now. UGA doesn’t have near a single starter on BOTH sides of the ball. The heralded Vad Lee is running around the field getting destroyed, the OLine is so tired and so beat to death, they are holding on to the UGA D line to just get moving.

Boring game all around. It was fun for the 1st quarter. Most of the fans on both sides are gone!

I am still proud to be a Yellow Jacket, however, UGA is just to tough, gotta give em credit. Dont think they will beat Alabama. For Tech, we should opt out of the ACC Championship game and any Bowl offered to us. Teams that end up at 6 and 6 or 6 and 7, do not need to go bowling. Sorry Tech, I am still a fan, but let the words speak. We think this was bad today? Wait till next week against FSU. So someone please help me understand if we should go 6 and 7, why should we go to a bowl? Let the suffering end now.

Hey Tech fan..Does hiding behind Alabama make today’s loss easier to to take? Georgia has more business being ranked number 3 than Tech has playing for the ACC title.

Thinking that the BCS rankings will look at todays game with UGA and Ga Tech, UGA power schedule ranking should drop meaning that UGA should drop down 2 or 3 spots in the BCS poll.

It should be embarrassing for the ACC (and for Tech) for that pitiful team to play in the ACC title game. If Tech wins it, it will be even more embarrassing. It is time for CPJ to go; what a joke of a coach.

@ cloudman Jacket, today just shows how easy of a schedule UGA has. UGA is not a top 10 team, but tech made them look that way. Anyone want to take a guess on how low the UGS power ranking schedule is? Pretty bad. Tech needs to let PJ go, stop playing a team we will never beat. UGA and move out of the ACC. Ga Tech being on UGA schedule does not and will never beef up the power schedule that the BCS uses for part of it rankings. Just saying.

I agree CPJ has run his course- said to say, but this reminds me of the Bill Louis debacle.

problems are:
who has the guts to take on a program in free fall and with very little talent?
how does GT afford them?

GTJohn

Rick, I am afraid you are correct. You know during the late 70s or early 80s (the Bill Lewis years) Tech almost did away with football entirely. I am not sure they can go through that again and PJ is taking them there very quickly. His style of football and games like today, insure he will not be able to recruit well enough to compete. Very sad for GT. I went there during the Bobby Dodd and Bud Carson years. Both are examples of what to do and what not to do. Sadly, PJ is an example of what not to do. He is not a head coach.
