Whatever Georgia Tech’s chances were coming into Saturday’s game against No. 3 Georgia, the Yellow Jackets’ chances took a direct hit with A-back Orwin Smith sideline with an ankle injury suffered in the second half of last week’s win over Duke.
A couple thoughts
This is going to be a tough, tough climb. As I noted in a couple stories, I think it’ll take a near-perfect game for Tech and then a couple breaks on top of that. Georgia isn’t unbeatable, but the Jackets haven’t faced an offense like this since Clemson. The second-half run has been built on teams with mostly ineffective offenses.
Boston College (98), BYU (65), Maryland (120), North Carolina (17), Duke (87). Georgia is No. 25.
Similarly, the Tech is definitely improved offensively, but, again, Georgia will be a different kind of test.
Boston College (104), BYU (No.3), Maryland (No. 15), North Carolina (No. 55) and Duke (No. 95). Georgia is No. 20.
That said, I think Tech’s got a chance. The team is confident and, regardless of opponent, is playing well. I think it means something that Johnson said the offensive line is playing the best he’s seen in his tenure. Tech will have to win this game on the linemen’s backs, I think.
It might be oversimplifying, but Tech needs to get ahead early, control the ball and get some stops.
Enjoy the game.

ESPN just said that they are showing the Westminster dog show next week. The ACC championship “game” had been moved to ESPN 3.

I doubt that #13 could play for any Div 1 team except GT. Yet he is there for virtually every play. Lee should have been playing all year, then perhaps he wouldn’t be prone to making freshman mistakes now.

I have said all year that Murray will have a field day with this D and that Jones and Rambo will be the best D we have faced all year. I expect to see all three plus a few more on this Dawg team playing on Sundays.
Sitll, GT has no excuse to look this bad against anyone and this is due to coaching or lack thereof.

Terrible defense and no signs of great improvement next year. We have to be able to recruit the players on defense and it starts with the defensive line. Embarrassing that we are playing the ACC championship. We should self impose a ban.

When Missouri joined the SEC they replaced Alabama on Georgia’s schedule which was done by the SEC not UGA which some otherwise smart people truly believe. They also they also had a home and home with Louisvile but when Georgia pulled out to play Boise St last year Louisvile cancelled this year’s game so they were replaced with Buffalo..

Funny…@ southdawg . I’m a Dawg fan, and I don’t understand why Tech doesn’t add a few more plays to their play book. They could be Really dangerous if they had more than 5 or 6 plays. They just become so one dimensional when down. It has to be so dicouraging to be fan. All that time of possession and not a lot to show for it.

Bit TimeTech Fan — I agree that the officiating has been pretty poor, but the difference in this game goes much, much deeper than that, don’t you agree? GT has no defensive concept whatsoever, and very little idea of what it takes to have an effective offense in this day and age. Forget special teams. I think this game marks a crossroads where Tech either takes drastic steps to overhaul its entire program, from the HC down, or decides to downgrade to a lower division.

No I think UGA is playing for SEC title next week.
If OSU and ND win they would play for Nat’l title, any other team backs into the game because OSU suspension.
Same they say Tech backed into ACC title
UGA is playing to beat Bama for SEC title, nobody will pick UGA over Clemson if Clemson beats the USC team that blew UGA out.

The key for GT is the QB….Nesbit was great for this offense because he truly was a duel threat and they had some breakout receivers.
CPJ is a pitiful recruiter and they are paying the price. You have to have a great QB to compete against the top Div1 teams.

I agree with an earlier comment that PJ should fire himself. If he has any character at all, he would realize that he is in over his head and needs to hand the reins over to someone else who can get the job done. I am sure PJ is a good person, just not a coach at this level at this time in his career. The TO has done all it can for him and he needs to go help somewhere else and learn a new offense.

Tech fans criticizing our SEC schedule? Now that’s comedy. Tech football might be the most cowardly sports organizaion in all of sports. They left the SEC because it was becoming too difficult. And I don’t know why the media has never called them out on this, but they flat out refuse to play Georgia Southern. Tech fans sit here and run their mouths about us supposedly dodging Bama but their crap program won’t even play Georgia Southern. Hilarious.
Georgia Tech is a disgrace.
