Live blog: It’s Tech-Georgia
Whatever Georgia Tech’s chances were coming into Saturday’s game against No. 3 Georgia, the Yellow Jackets’ chances took a direct hit with A-back Orwin Smith sideline with an ankle injury suffered in the second half of last week’s win over Duke.
A couple thoughts
This is going to be a tough, tough climb. As I noted in a couple stories, I think it’ll take a near-perfect game for Tech and then a couple breaks on top of that. Georgia isn’t unbeatable, but the Jackets haven’t faced an offense like this since Clemson. The second-half run has been built on teams with mostly ineffective offenses.
Boston College (98), BYU (65), Maryland (120), North Carolina (17), Duke (87). Georgia is No. 25.
Similarly, the Tech is definitely improved offensively, but, again, Georgia will be a different kind of test.
Boston College (104), BYU (No.3), Maryland (No. 15), North Carolina (No. 55) and Duke (No. 95). Georgia is No. 20.
That said, I think Tech’s got a chance. The team is confident and, regardless of opponent, is playing well. I think it means something that Johnson said the offensive line is playing the best he’s seen in his tenure. Tech will have to win this game on the linemen’s backs, I think.
It might be oversimplifying, but Tech needs to get ahead early, control the ball and get some stops.

Why would GT want to be in the SEC?
That would never happen plus its suicide…ask Missouri…Even Texas A&M lost a few….GT would get steamrolled.

We have to move somewhere other than the ACC, staying in the ACC will only allow our FB to stagnate or deteriorate.
A better FB Conference will force the GT Admin. to get serious about CFB and get rid of Coach Moral Victory.

Incredible that we’ve run more plays, made more first downs, and held the ball for 2.5 times as long as UGA, and yet we trail by 25 points. Turnovers are a killer, and we still haven’t put a good defense on the field.

clemson is beating south carolina…i will take an top sec defense against that acc offense all everyday..and if clemson some how gets lucky and wins they will not jump uga.. thats because they play in the acc where their hardest game is the last game of the year on their regular schedule

FSU is sitting @ number 10 because of strength of schedule. ACC schedule…

I am an avid GT supporter and I must admit, CPJ MUST go. His offense is offensive and he should’ve fired himself because obviously, defense is not in his vocabulary and/or playbook. Good luck somewhere else.

No way to support this kind of product, unless one is ready to accept that GT is not really serious about fielding a competitive football team. It is a total shame and disgrace. “CPJ” should be fired immediately. Why is 13 playing when Vad Lee is on the bench. Was his performance vs. N.C. not proof enough of the differences between #13 and him. Is 13 CPJ’s male concubine or something? Sad day for a formerly proud program and still proud tradition.

I woul hope that whomever the new AD is will have a heart-to-heart discussion with him and help him understand some things. I would also expect to see an Offensive and Defensive Coordinator hired. In both cases, someone who understands their area and who can motivate players to perform. Without those changes, there is little hope for recruiting enough of the level of players we need to compete.

The toughest job in the country right now will be the person at Tech who has to call people next week trying to sell bowl tickets. Who would want to go to Texas to watch a 6-7 teach with no heart coming off of two consecutive beat downs get beat by a mediocre team?

This team couldn’t win the Southern Conference title, they don’t have nearly enough talent. The best thing that could happen is to lose to FSU the same way next week & then pray that the NCAA won’t grant a waiver for a team with a losing record to go to a bowl. As long as CPJ remains in place, unable/unwilling to recruit even 1/10th enough legitimate D1 talent to field a team that isn’t an outright embarrassment then the best thing that’s left to hope for is as few games as possible.

I wish he would not be the coach next year, but DRAD and Braine have us locked into that due to their bonehead decisions. Why is it that the Board allows all these decisions that are so bad but they never get penalized for them – and it is not limited to GT sports.
